Three sides on Hunters Star is now done 2 or 3 more times stitching with the evening news and it will be done – maybe if things dry out I will be able to take a photo outside Monday or Tuesday. The fabric is picked out for my yellow Mercantile block – I hope to […]
read moreA smaller quilt finish for today. Over the years I have collected smaller pieces of flannel fabric, but have not often sewn with them. When I was doing a tidy up I realised that pile of flannel fabrics had grown and needed to be used. We need a couple of warm quilts to have as extras in the caravan, so it was time to use those fabrics.
I didn’t want to cut the snowflake fabric into small pieces, so I kept them as 6 inch squares.
Then I framed each block with a selection of the blues that I ...
read moreGood morning, my friends. Well...we did it. We saw the quilts at the show. It was a pretty easy day. We found on-street parking, and avoided the $10 charge that was right across the street. Our tickets were at the "will call" booth, just as expected. We were in and out in a couple of hours. After the show, we finished up our grocery shopping at the nearest Kroger store, and we were back at the RV by lunch time.
Smitty was champing at the bit to get outside, and so I took him out after lunch.

I finished two more of the 24” blocks for the Barn Star Sampler I’m making. This block was pretty fun to make. I didn’t have to use the seam ripper near as much as I did on the last block. After I finished them, I took all the blocks I have so far and laid… Continue reading Barn Star Sampler Update
read moreYou know by now how these things get started: someone gives me something. In this case, as part of a larger bundle of possibilities, there were three matching 6-1/2″ applique hearts. Much too cute to trash. I did consider pot holders, or a table runner, or a banner. But what they wanted to be was a baby quilt.
I had a little bundle of fat eights that “happened” to match perfectly. I love it when that happens. All that was needed was some background fabric and something to make centers for 6-1/2″ star blocks. I really wanted to ...
read moreThis is another of the charity quilt kits Sparkle Jane and I created several years ago. One of my goals this year is to get them all put together and delivered to people who can use them.
The colors scheme came from the tipi print–too cute! Some colors are all the same, and some are mixed scraps. Works for me!
There is nothing wrong with simple quilts. They have their own appeal.

It isn’t often that you get a call, and you immediately know the caller wants something, BUT, that whatever they are going to ask of you might actually be fun, so you let them talk you into a “Yes”. In this case, I became immersed in my first full T-Shirt quilt that I have dubbed “Decades of Decibels”.
I can’t claim design inspiration on this one as my uncle knew what he wanted. He had taken time to inventory and visually lay out the shirts he had collected from rock concerts over the ...
read moreWhen I saw this panel by Rubin Design Studio “Intricate Illustrated Kitty” of EQuilter, my heart skipped a beat. I just love the colors, the curves and the movement in this panel.
The panel measured 29″ x 43.5″. I could have cut 3.75″ strips for 6″ finished hexies and trimmed the panel to 42″. But, I decided to cut 3.25″ strips for 5″ finished hexies using my Star 60 Ruler. I would need to trim more of the panel, but I felt a smaller strip would make more interesting hexies. There is some stretching with bias ...
read moreVictoria Findlay Wolfe has a new series of work now showing! She worked hard on these pieces over the last couple years, which means she kept me busy with these pieces as well. I have to say I breathed a big sigh of relief when we finished the last one for this exhibit!
There will be more in the future, but for now, we are both moving house (which was coincidental good timing that we are both moving at the same time), so she is taking a break from this series, and I’m just doing random stuff for a ...
read moreThere isn’t much I love better than teaching, other than a well-struck iron shot into an elevated green. The Creative Design Society is my ongoing membership, and it focuses on all things machine quilting. Someone asked me what is the thing I love about it the most. That is an easy question to answer. It is all of the members. While the primary focus is on quilting, we have supported members through some trying times. I, for one, leaned on all of the members when my mother passed away. The support was incredible. Other members have had falls, cancer ...
read moreTime to make a break from the blue quilts. This is one that had been started a while back, then was put aside. But I was able to get back to it and have a LAQ do the quilting for me. It gives the impression of being a Christmas quilt, although I didn’t plan it that way.
It is made from a fabric range by Jacquelynne Steves called Joy, Love, Peace, Noel. So I suppose it is a Christmas fabric. You need a close look to see how lovely the fabrics are.
I used a spot fabric for an ...

read moreGood afternoon, my friends. We've had a good day here at the state park. I'll tell you about this morning's hike in tomorrow's post. For now, I want to back up and tell you about the quilt shop. We needed to kill some time between checking out of the Hot Springs KOA and checking in at the state park. A quilt shop seems to me to be the perfect way to kill some time. I selected this one for its proximity and for its large parking lot. Since we'd checked out of the RV park ...

So far, a few suggestions… Quilter’s Groove Society, Quilter’s Groove Insiders, Quilter’s Groove Clique, Quilter’s Groove Guild, or Quilter’s Groove Posse.
What do you guys think?
On the back end, I will combine the Design Decision Dilemma and QG TRIBE. I don’t even think many people know about the Design Decision Dilemma membership, so by combining them, when I ...

It’s another Strip Mirage, (pattern from Sew Yeah Quilting) and I used a jelly roll I have had in my stash for quite a long time. A little bonus… Continue reading Sunday Funday Quilting and a Fun New Notion
read moreI KNOW I saw a tutorial for this, but now I can’t find it. If you know of it, please tell me and I will update the post.
So, the point is that I had this pile of novelty fabric squares that needed a job. An Eye Spy quilt is the obvious solution, but I felt that there was something more possible.
I love the way this turned out. I had yardage of this interesting green, and it seems to highlight without overwhelming. (More of it will be featured in another upcoming quilt.) If you squint, you might recognize ...
read moreI have used up nearly all the leftovers from the last few blue quilts and am now reaching into my stash. Not that it is making a dent, but it is good to use it.
I wasn’t expecting to have this quilt ready so soon, as my LAQ was busy with show preparations, but she called me after 10 days to say it was ready. Time to get binding. Here’s the back as well.
If I go in closer you can see the quilting design.
The blocks in this quilt are great stash busters. I have seen this ...
