# 3 layout is my choice............. from Exuberant Color

Of the 3 layouts I showed yesterday I chose the third layout as the one I will do.  I haven't sewn any of the plain triangles onto the pieced triangles so I will play with the arrangement of them since they create a rectangle.  I think I can sew about 2/3 of them randomly, then start playing with the layout and the last 1/3 will be pieced to perfect the layout.  There are a lot of blocks to make since they finish at 6".

Thursdays are the day I do my live broadcast for the Colorwash360 online ...

Several layouts............ from Exuberant Color

This is the layout that I saw that inspired this quilt with the "pickle" Kona cotton inserts.  I only have 6 of the triangles trimmed at the insert fabric point so this is all I can show so far.

Of course I have to try some other layouts.  I think this is pretty interesting.

For this layout you really need to see more blocks to see the double length line that the inserts will make.

I sewed a little on other projects too yesterday.  I really like having a choice of 3 or more projects to work on.  I know ...

A good quilting day......... from Exuberant Color

I still have to find some more fabrics for triangles.  I added 2 new fabrics yesterday after I got all of the larger pieces on the design wall.  There is a row of squares that will go around the whole thing with a triangle sewn on just one corner.  You can search for Cascade by SpringLeaf Studios to see the pattern.  Anne sells them on Etsy and Craftsy(Blueprint) and she also has a blog.  My camera has given this a blue tone where in reality it has a lot of red orange and orange in it.
I now have ...

Yes, we got snow.............. from Exuberant Color

There was snow on the ground when I got up and this is the scene at 1 p.m., still snowing.  It stopped for awhile around 3 and then there was more light snow later in the afternoon.  I'm guessing there is about 3" on the ground but a town 25 miles northwest of us had 7".
This is about 4 p.m yesterday and the birds were all flocking to the feeders and below them.  There is a mourning dove on the ground and a cardinal on the feeder at the right.  The rest are sparrows, chickadees and ...

4th and final layout.........design by committee....... from Exuberant Color

My 2 friends and I moved blocks and moved blocks and moved blocks until we reached this layout which is the final one and will be sewn.

I flipped the photo 180 degrees to see if it looks any better but it doesn't.

I'm still not really liking this OBW that much but I'll go ahead and sew this at my leisure when I just need something to sew on while watching TV.

While my friends were here I cut a new quilt.  The solid colors I used in my crazy pieced quilt HERE were still on ...

Finish # 23 for 2017............ from Exuberant Color

I knew this would be another fast finish since it is just a small lap quilt, 34.5" x 44.5".  I made the top in May this year with all of the leftover triangle squares from two other projects.

I had a large piece of this black with beige stars batik fabric from the 1990s to use for the backing.

I used the channel lock on my longarm to do randomly spaced straight lines for the quilting pattern.

I knew a beige print would look good with the stars on the back and also would be a good neutral ...

Last border on, finished quilt top........... from Exuberant Color

I just decided that my photo ability at 11 p.m. isn't so great.  I will take this down and do a good press job and hang it back up for a better photo later.
Here is a close up of the border fabric.  It changes from pink to green to beige in the background and I had so little left that I couldn't match the  color in all of the seams of the border.  Overall it doesn't look so bad.

The block pattern is the traditional Flock of Geese block.

It ended up at 71.75 ...

A good sewing day.............. from Exuberant Color

I got the pieced border sewn onto this quilt top yesterday.  Now the tricky part will be getting an accurate measurement for the last 4" border of the same print as the first border.  I don't want it ruffled but I don't want it too tight either.  I will probably baste it on with a long stitch to check if it is the right length before sewing the permanent seam.
I finished quilting this one and sewed on the binding.  I have started the hand sewing on it.

I have had these 2 pieces of cactus rooting in ...

Jerry's quilt top.......... from Exuberant Color

You have seen one of Otis' quilts in the past.  Jerry is the other guy in my art quilters group.  I sold him a package of four inch finished triangles cut with my Studio die cutter out of a miscellaneous group of scrap fabrics.  I made sure there was an equal number of light values and dark values in the pack which was enough for 36 blocks.  Jerry supplied the fabric for the center squares.  He eliminated one block for a 5 x 7 layout for a quilt top around 60" x 84".  He got the top totally sewn together ...

Last 5 seams sewn.......... from Exuberant Color

I needed my design walls for some photography so I took down this Australian fabric quilt top and sewed the last 5 seams on it.  It looks so much better sewn together than it did in the design stage.  It is just a little under 60" x 80".

Most of the intersections of the triangle seams were good.

There were a few that are off by a tiny bit.  The quilt is so busy that I'm not taking them out and doing them over.  There is one tiny pucker that I will fix however.

6 sections.......... from Exuberant Color

I worked on this top a few different times yesterday.  It had to be constructed in sections because of the big blocks. The top section is actually 3 parts, a top row, a double row and a bottom row.  All of the rest  are waiting to be joined together.  I'm determined to have this top done by tomorrow so I'll have a finished top for my recap of the month even though I have no full quilt finishes.  Hopefully I will have some finishes in December so my year will not look too bad.  I have 19 finished ...

Sewing a little.......... from Exuberant Color

My daughter-in-law stopped yesterday afternoon with an elephant ear from the fair for me.  It was still warm!  Yum!!  Deep fried bread dough, butter, sugar and cinnamon, what could be better.
While she was here I asked if we could make a path to my sewing machine.  She moved the dining room chairs out and rearranged the bookshelves on wheels.

Next I needed to clean off the top of the cabinet.  Most of it was just shifted over to a shelf on the rolling cart.

Remember the little 2" pinwheels made of the Australian fabrics?  The fabric I thought I ...
