Scrappy Bricks from Becca's Crazy Projects

Remember this stack of blocks?
I finished the quilt top with a 3" wide border. Now to get it quilted.

Charming from Becca's Crazy Projects

I added the borders to my charming quilt.
I loaded it on the frame.
And started quilting. I decided to use a traditional pattern. This is Kristin's Easy Baptist Fan from Urban Elementz. I didn't have a fan design I really like in my collection so I bought this one for this quilt. I'm sure I will use it again so it was a worthy investment.

Happy Solstice from Becca's Crazy Projects

I've been working on so many things but don't have much of any one thing to share. I've been making more small scrappy bricks blocks. I just started on a stack using this fun flower print as the center square.
I've finished my charming quilt and have cut the binding and borders to finish it.
This set of scrappy bricks is ready to be sewn into rows.

Red and White from Becca's Crazy Projects

I pieced this delightful little quilt using a free block pattern from Gnome Angel. If you don't follow Angie, or aren't on her email list, you should check it out. Free Block Friday is a wonderful thing.

I made my blocks at a different size using my Accuquilt Go! Such a wonderful little block. I'm glad I tried this out. I used Electric Quilt to come up with the layout and I'm pleased with the result. Sashing for the win!

Charming from Becca's Crazy Projects

I've finished the majority of the piecing and this is where I'm at. No rhyme or reason with this one. The goal was to sew two bricks together and repeat until I had my units. Then, sew those into rows. Then join the rows. I like the chaos in this one. I will add a border and it will be ready for quilting.

Recipe: cut 504 bricks that measure 2.5" by 4.5" (Accuquilt has a die for that). Sew two together. Repeat until you have 252 units. Sew 14 units together in a row. Make 18 ...

Charming from Becca's Crazy Projects

A while back I cut a bunch of 5" charm squares in half. I've been slowly sewing the resulting bricks into larger units and trimming down to 4.5" squares. This is the result of some of that work. I've since started sewing them into rows but don't have a photo to share of that step, yet. This would have been quicker if I had used my Accuquilt. Ah, well, I'm making slow progress and there isn't anything wrong with that.

Better Borders from Becca's Crazy Projects

Have you had this happen? When you add the borders and they just end up wavy? Yeah, me, too. I know how to fix this problem and it still happens. This isn't going to be a post about how to prevent this from happening. You can certainly find loads of videos on how to properly cut and attach borders.
I straighened that border out when I basted.
In the end, it worked out okay. Just don't do this to your long arm quilter.

Die Cutting the Leftovers from Becca's Crazy Projects

When I trim a charity quilt, I set aside the trimmings in this bin. It is overflowing with scrappy goodness.
I decided to do some sorting by size.
My goal was to cut some of those leftovers into usable pieces. I sorted the scraps into some general sizes. These sizes become binding, borders, and blocks.
Then I sat down with my biggest leftovers, in this case the pieces that could easily be cut into 6.5" squares. These are the easiest to make into a charity quilt quickly. Thirty squares sewn in five rows of six squares and you almost ...

Scrappy Bricks from Becca's Crazy Projects

I've been piecing more of these scrappy bricks blocks.
They come together easily and make a pretty fun little quilt.
The block center squares and the borders give each quilt its own flavor.

Binding the DWR from Becca's Crazy Projects

It has been months since I quilted the Double Wedding Ring quilt. More than six months.
I thought this striped fabric would be the perfect binding.
I grabbed my Magical Rainbow of Binding cheat-sheet from the Geeky Bobbin. This wonderful chart (just sign up for the Geeky Bobbin's newsletter) is free and wonderful.
It helps you calculate the number of strips you need to bind your quilt. I needed nine for my quilt.
I love a stripy binding. I accordion fold my binding so it is easy to store and attach. Curious about how I attach my binding? You ...

Butterfly Garden from Becca's Crazy Projects

I pieced this quilt way back in January (2023). I decided to get it off my to-quilt list. I loaded it up and got quilting.
I picked a fun flower edge-to-edge design. This design came with my machine so I'm not sure who designed it. It is a great all-over design that makes a fun texture. I picked a blue thread that matches the backing fabric.
It isn't easy to see in this photo, but the texture is great!
I've made my binding. Now, I just need to get it attached.

Dead Like Me from Becca's Crazy Projects

I enjoyed piecing this quilt so much. The blocks are big, you don't repeat things. It was great. Some of the pieces can be cut with your Accuquilt Go! if you have the right dies.
I worked through the piecing over about a week.
I had some of this great black fabric left over from another project. It made the perfect border.

Dead Like Me from Becca's Crazy Projects

I have been making great progress on my Dead Like Me quilt.
I started with the sections with black fabric. I wanted to see something that really looked like something and the eyes seemed a great start.
I love how this pattern is presented.
It wasn't long before I had finished one half of the top.

Dead Like Me from Becca's Crazy Projects

I did a bunch of cutting. So much cutting. I even pulled some 2.5" squares from my collection of little charms.
This quilt has such a great collection of fabrics. I can't wait to see this one come together.

Dead Like Me from Becca's Crazy Projects

I bought a couple quilt patterns from Rose City Originals a few months ago. I've been looking for a new project and Dead Like Me kept floating to the top. I thought I may need to do some shopping. The first rule of quilting is that you should check your collection before you head out to the quilt shop. Trust me. Some of us have more fabric than we can reasonably use in a lifetime. This is the collection of fabrics I pulled, and curated. I don't know if I will use all of these, but I'm ...

Brown Bag Mystery Finish from Becca's Crazy Projects

I found the perfect diagonal print to bind this All Hallows Brown Bag Mystery Quilt. I like stripes, dots and diagonal stripes for binding. Diagonal prints are great because it makes it look like you put stripes on the bias without the work of making bias binding.
The quilting for this quilt is a fun spiral spider web design called Gossamer, available from Urban Elementz.
See my tips on machine-finished quilt binding
Overall, a great finish. I'm sure I will check out the mystery quilt next year. This one had some new tricks and it was a great experience ...

Oops! from Becca's Crazy Projects

And how I fixed it...
Have you ever made a mistake cutting your batting? Well, here is mine. I cut into the batting on the folded edge at about half the width of batting I needed. I measured and cut the right amount and here is how I fixed that first cut.
Turned the batting face down on my pressing board, and cut a piece of featherweight fusible to mend that first cut. I pressed it onto the batting. You can also buy fusible batting tape that will do the same thing but comes in a handy roll.
Here is ...

Brown Bag Mystery from Becca's Crazy Projects

Remember those quarter square triangle blocks I was making? Let's get back to those.
This was basically my practice quilt for the Brown Bag Mystery Quilt. I worked out how to make each unit using fabric from my collection. This one is very different and I really like how it is turning out. I haven't decided on borders yet.

Brown Bag Mystery from Becca's Crazy Projects

Pieced top center complete! Time for some borders.
A narrow orange border.
Followed by a wider black border. I'm so pleased with this finished top. Now I need some backing and I can get it quilted. I found the perfect quilting design for this little quilt. I think a light gray backing is the right way to go.
