Cats and Stars from Cat Patches

My kitty consultants were hard at work yesterday. It seems kitties have very strong opinions about color value. I was working on the next two blocks for the Charm Stars quilt. The stars are made from a combination of light and dark color values as well as neutrals. Sadie was not happy with my choices at all.

You've chosen a lavender, where you really should have chosen a light purrple.

She read over the instructions and looked at the diagram several times. We couldn't agree on the color choices or placement.

Pawsibly you need new glasses, because I ...

Quilt Shop: Quail's Nest Quilt Company, Sonora, California from Cat Patches

When I found the quilt shop in Jamestown permanently closed, we drove to nearby Sonora where I found this one very much open for business.

Here's how it looks, approaching from the parking lot.

Walking through the front door, it looks like this:

To my left was a room where I laid eyes on this panel before seeing anything else. Oh...I think I'm going to like it here.

Below the cat panel was this cute little critter.

This was obviously the room for juvenile fabrics.

To my right was a nice waiting area for husbands. It wasn ...

Quilt Shop: The Quilter's Faire, Palm Desert, California from ... Cat Patches

There was no plan to visit a quilt shop in yesterday's wanderings, but with the rain, it seemed like a good idea...to me. While I was in the quilt shop, Mike scoped out YouTube videos looking for the perfect RV toilet paper. The one we're using is not dissolving as it should, and so he was on the hunt for something a little less sturdy. As it turns out Charmin Ultra Soft is the winner in that category. Who knew? And all this focus on toilet paper to tell you that when we went looking for it ...

Quilt Shop: Copper Canyon Quilting, Lake Havasu City, Arizona from ... Cat Patches

There may be more than one quilt shop in Lake Havasu City. It was hard to tell from Google, but one was all I wanted. We visited the Copper Canyon Quilting and E2E Outriggers yesterday. Yes, you read that right. It's a quilt shop that sells outrigger canoes. The owner said she'd rather do that than sell vacuum cleaners. Enough said.

The shop was about a mile north of London Bridge, off to itself on a side street.

The door on the right led into a classroom.

Walking through the front door, it looks like this.

Quilt Shop: Quilter's Quarters and Bernina Too; Cottonwood, Arizona from ... Cat Patches

Good grief. I've had the hardest time this morning staying connected to the internet. Internet access can be frustrating when we're traveling. But here I am to tell you about the quilt shop. Let's hope my connection will see me through to the end.

I wasn't expecting to visit this shop, preferring to save my quilty dollars for the store in Sedona, but we had time, and so what the heck? This store was not far from where we were at the national monument, and so we went. It's off to itself at the far ...

KAY'S LQS NOT SEW LOCAL from Kwilty Pleasures

I find Local Quilt Shops, wherever I may be.
The sewing peeps I met here in Fort Myers, FL
(at another shop)
mentioned I should visit Kay's.

The NOT SEW LOCAL part floored me!
Among all the flyers available for quilts shows, etc.
I found these two flyers...
Dabble and Stitch is located in Columbus, OH
And the BOM 'Zoo Family Portrait" quilt pattern is by
Cassandra Beaver, who is an Ohio sewing peep and my friend.

This is Kay...she was so friendly and we had lots
to talk about, including Cassandra who might be
teaching a class ...

Quilt Shop: Primitive Gatherings, Murrieta, California from ... Cat Patches

My thanks go to my friend, Crew at Cabin Central, who gave me the heads up about the Primitive Gatherings Quilt shop about a half an hour away. We stopped on our way to the Oceanside Pier yesterday, and what a lot of fun! You can find its web presence right here. It's an easy shop to find, located in an industrial park, easy on and off the freeway with plenty of room to park Mike's pig of a truck...always appreciated. Approaching the storefront, it looks like this:

FLASH GORDON FINDS THE FLASH! from Kwilty Pleasures

If you know me, you know when I am away from home...
I quilt. I find quilt guilds, fabric, local shops,
and sometimes new quilty friends.

Being in Fort Myers FL this winter is no exception.
Just a mile away from my condo is this fabulous LQS.
FLASH Sew and Quilt.
They have two LQS, the other is in Naples, FL.

A good variety of notions, patterns, books and fabric.

I was surprised to find a few Elizabeth Hartman patterns.
The leaves and the dog with a sweater patterns in pillows.
The dog is done up Florida style
A Tommy ...

Quilt Shop: Roxy's Quilt & Sew; Fort Mojave, Arizona from Cat Patches

When we arrived at our KOA site yesterday, I first asked my friend The Google to find a quilt shop near me. As I've said many times, The Google is my best friend when it comes to finding quilt shops. It was my first quilt shop visit of the trip, and being here in the tippy triangle of Nevada, we crossed the state line into Arizona to find it. The shopkeeper, Roxy, one would assume, was as friendly as could be, and I enjoyed my time here. It was just about 3 miles from where we were staying.

A Long Day and a Quilt Shop from Cat Patches

It was a dismal day of weather for my drive north yesterday, but that was the only black mark on the day. The rest was delightful. We're currently in a weather pattern that has been described by weather people as an "atmospheric river," and it's easy to see why. It has rained, and rained, and rained. It rained all the way up and all the way back on my drive yesterday, and some areas were foggy as well. And, as you might guess, it was dark too. Definitely a headlights-on day.

Fortunately, traffic wasn't too bad, and ...

A Day as Good as Any from Cat Patches

Yesterday was a day as good as any to do some refrigerator clean out and to make some turkey stock. I pulled the meat from the bones of the turkey carcass, and then went scrounging in the refrigerator for any dead vegetables. I came out with some leeks, celeriac (aka celery root), carrots, and a turnip. Then I trekked out to the culinary herb garden for some fresh rosemary, thyme, and sage. Within about half an hour, the house was smelling so nice and cozy.

I let that simmer for several hours while I did some work in the sewing ...

Purrterbation from ... Cat Patches

There was a lot of anxious decision-making involved in yesterday's sewing. The kitties were there to help make decisions, but none of us could decide whose ideas were best or right. Eventually, the kitties threw up their paws in exaspurration and retired to their catio.

Don't come around here with your purroblems. I've already told you the quilt needs more than one cat!

Yeah...and if we're going to have to assist with so many purrojects, we demand to renegotiate our contract. We want more kitty treats!

Sheesh. Looks like mewtiny to me.

Okay, well, back ...
