2-Cent-Tuesday from IVORY SPRING

Hello Friends, Happy Tuesday to you! I hope you have been well. Today kicks off a weekly 2-cent-Tuesday on my blog! I used to have “my two cents” in my machine quilting posts, and I have been wanting to continue that to cover the various aspects of Tuesdays… so here we go:

If you quilt your own quilts, leave the completed quilted piece alone for at least 24-48 hours. Chances are you would anyway – if you are laying the piece on the floor for squaring up purposes. THEN come back and and admire your piece. More than likely, all you ...

Possibilities Quilt from The Crafty Quilter

I’ve been busy behind the scenes working on a new project that I can finally share: The Possibilities Quilt. The name says a lot for this project. It’s a quilt with possibilities and options!

I’ve wanted to teach a skill-building class that doesn’t last too long, but it’s long enough to give you a lap-size quilt in the end. I designed this quilt with four different quilt blocks (10″ finished) that range in complexity and skill level. But that wasn’t enough. I wanted you to have options as to how to set the blocks ...

Merry Christmas 2020 & Stomping Ground Sewalong from IVORY SPRING

Hello Friends, Merry Christmas to you! I hope you had a blessed one. I know that many of of us weren’t able to do what we usually do for Christmas this year, but I was comforted to know that Christmas is Christmas no matter what I usually do! So this year without our usuals, I was able to focus on the FIRST Christmas, and enjoyed the simple things. My daughter and I even “binge-listened” to Bach’s 6-part Christmas Oratoria in one sitting on the radio, as opposed to, say, watch a group perform live. “Mom, this is really ...

IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR! from That's Sew Kerry

Especially when you get Great Presents!

It's no secret I have an addiction to fabric - so this is always a sure win when buying a present for me, but as a quilter I quite often get asked what 'good presents' to buy are. So I thought I'd put together a little list of things that have caught my eye recently or that I generally can't do with out in case anyone was struggling with what to buy for the quilter/sewer/crafter in their life.

This is not sponsored or affiliated in any way, simply my opinions ...

Chambray Fabric With Stars In Pieces Pattern from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

Oh my gosh, you guys, I am in love with Chambray by The Tattooed Quilter! These lightweight fabrics are so versatile. Not only are they 100% cotton, soft, and luxurious, but they are forgiving too. I love the feel and the detail in the weave. It’s perfect! I, of course, made a quilt out of them, but I dream of making a flowing dress. I can see it now. Something like the Calvin dress… Yes! That would be lovely. But I think I am going to need more Chambray fabric. LOL.

Hourglass Wreath Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

The Hourglass Wreath Quilt from Missouri Star Quilt Co. Watch the free quilt tutorial today.

Can you imagine enduring winter in ancient Scandinavia? No electricity. No furnace. No corner grocery store. Just weeks and weeks of darkness, cold, and scarcity.

During the darkest part of winter, my own Swedish ancestors adorned evergreen wreaths with white candles to celebrate Yule, or midwinter. The evergreen boughs symbolized resilience in harsh conditions; the candles, hope for the warmth and light of spring.

Half-square triangle tutorial and giveaway winner

Make 8 units at a time with this easy half-square triangle tutorial. Use this formula to figure out the size of the beginning squares. No guesswork!

In a few weeks, I will release a new quilt pattern that features a pieced block (above) and a block with piecing and applique’. Today I will show you how I’ve been making lots of half-square triangles (HST) shown in my recent patterns and published quilts. When I have to create many units at a time, I have a few options.

Half-square triangle methods

1. The traditional method has you cutting squares of ...

The Knit Quilt from Expect Moore

When I saw the AGF Hooked Fabric collection, I knew I wanted to make a quilt that made reference to fiber crafts beyond quilting. Which is how I came up with the knit quilt. Yes, I know that “hooked” refers to crochet, and that crochet and knitting are two different things. So, this is an […]

Red wagon quilt patterns: free projects you must make

Choose one of these red wagon quilt patterns or make them both! Bring back childhood memories of riding fun, and make one for each child!

This is Quilt 1 which I created for the My Red Wagon collection by Debbie Busby for Henry Glass. I am smitten by the textures and colors of these fabrics and so happy I was able to work with them! The prints spell ‘cozy’ with plaids and paisleys and are versatile as well because they include whimsical motifs for the entire year. Debbie was inspired!

Debbie worked with a primitive palette, imbuing each fabric with ...
