Quilt Book Review: Little Gatherings from Jo's Country Junction

Oh my goodness…blog readers, be prepared to be amazed.  I don’t know where I have been but the book I’m sharing with you today was published in December of 2021.  I know if I would have seen it, I would have purchased it because I love it.

The book is Little Gatherings from Lisa Bongean.  Just look at the quilt cover.  That quilt is great!!

There are 13 projects in the book and all of them are little…little pieces, little quilts.

I was excited to see this.  Ever since I started working on my cross stitch ...

Quilt Book Review: Scrap-Basket Knockouts from Jo's Country Junction

I’m a Kim Brackett fan.  I don’t know that I’ve made any of her quilts…but I do have her books.  I love looking at them and studying them.  I love that her quilts are always scrappy which is a huge favorite of mine.  I put myself on the pre-order list when I saw she had a new book coming out.  The book is Scrap-Basket Knockouts.

Just look at all of the pretty quilts on the cover.  I love that I could just open my own scrap baskets and start sewing (If I wasn’t trying to ...

Quilt Book Review: Strips and Strings from Jo's Country Junction

I have spent part of the month trying to do some cleaning in my sewing room.  That has led me to access what I have in my room as far as fabric goes and what I need to use up.  Strips and strings were HIGH on the list of things that needed to get used.  I have other things I am going to take care of first but I wanted to have some ideas in place so that once I get a few more UFO projects done, I can think about something else.

That lead me down a rabbit hole ...

Quilt Book Review: Kindred Spirits: Celebrating Pieces of the Past from Jo's Country Junction

I got this new quilt book, Kindred Spirits by Jill Shaulis and Vicki Olsen of Yellow Creek Quilt Designs.  I really didn’t intend on buying a new quilt book but…

Do you remember this that a blog reader sent me?

A blog reader messaged me to let me know that it was the beginnings of the quilt you see below.

Here is the quilt from the book fully laid out… I really like the quilt and being I liked the quilt, I thought I would like the book as well.

It turns out I did like the book.  Keep ...

Quilt Review: Magnetic Pin Keep from Jo's Country Junction

You might remember that I recently have done reviews for a few sewing notions…The Third Hand Binding Tool and the Blade Saver Thread Cutting Tool.  All of them are creations of Heather at Purple Hobbies.

Heather and I were chatting and she asked if I was interested in trying out an other notions her company offers.  I check her site and decided I would try the magnetic pin cup.

I was looking for something for my long arm pins.  I previously kept them in this…

This is what a mechanic might use to hold tools it’s magnetized and ...

Blade Saver Thread Cutter Review from Jo's Country Junction

I pulled out my Hawaiian Sunset quilt.  It’s a long term UFO.  I think it’s been on my bucket list of quilts to make for years and years…I’ll have to look again, but I think for over 10 years.  I had pulled fabric and had a tiny start on it.  I have the four patches that go around the quilt done and started the nice patches that are in the center of the blocks.

I needed more center nine-patch blocks and there were a few half-sewn four patches so I thought I would work on them ...

Quilting Notion Review: Third Hand Binding Folder Clip from Jo's Country Junction

I recently contacted the company Purple Hobbies and asked them if they would be interested in sending me their Third Hand Binding Folder Clip in return for an honest review.  They said yes and asked me what size I wanted.

I am a machine binder and I cut my strips at 2 1/4″ when I bind quilts so I asked for that size and they sent it to me.

Earlier this week I finished the machine quilting on this quilt… and thought it was the perfect time to give the binding tool a try.

I am terrible at reading ...

Quilt Book Review: Scrap Basket Bounty from Jo's Country Junction

You might remember at the end of 2021 I had said that this year I wanted to focus on getting some of the scraps in my scrap bins used up.  So many of the totes are overflowing and I struggle to get the tops of the totes to close.  I want to do something about it…but then I got sidetracked on tackling all of the quilt leftovers I had hanging around.

I’m coming to a close on my using up my leftover so I started combing through books…and even ordering a few scrap quilt books in the ...

Quilt Review: Over the Door Quilt Hanger from Jo's Country Junction

I was on Amazon and saw in my recommendations an over-the-door quilt hanger.  Oh my…this definitely looked like something I would like.

I ended up contacting the company and asked if they would send me one for free in exchange for an honest review.  The answer was yes.  I was so excited.

Doesn’t it look perfect for a quilter’s house?

Goodness knows I have quilts and quilts and quilts around here.  I’d love another option to display them.

While I waited for mine to arrive I started to think of places I would like it or ...

I have her first book…First Steps to Free-Motion Quilting.  I enjoyed this one.

Then I got her next book, Step by Step Free Motion Quilting.  This book, I adored!!  I still reference back to it often.  It has been my favorite free-motion quilting ...

Crumb Quilts Winner and More about Crumbs from Jo's Country Junction

I thought I would stop in and tell you all who won the book  Crumb Quilts: Scrap Quilting the Zero Waste Way by Emily Bailey I reviewed on Friday.

The winner was Patty Root.  I have sent her an email and am in the process of getting the book sent out to her.

I am totally in the mood this year to tackle all of my totes.  All of them are overflowing.  I want to make quilts that will use up all the strips, bits and bobs that are near to bursting in those totes.

I’ve pulled all of ...

Quilt Book Review: Crumb Quilts from Jo's Country Junction

You all know I love to use up all of the little pieces of fabric.  If the piece is little, I still want to use it.

Well the other day while I was on Amazon checking out a quilting book, I saw this book as a suggested book, Crumb Quilts: Scrap Quilting the Zero Waste Way by Emily Bailey.

I love crumb quilting…I love zero waste so I thought I would order the book.  But, then I looked at the publisher.  It was David & Charles.  Well, awesome.  I have an agreement with them that if they send me a ...

Quilt Book Review: Red, White & Blue Star Quilts from Jo's Country Junction

I am on a list from CT Publishing of people who receive courtesy ebooks of their upcoming releases.  The emails come monthly and have four to five books in every mailing.  Often I don’t even look at the books as from the cover, I can tell that there is nothing in the book that I’d likely make.  This book though caught my eye immediately.  IMMEDIATELY!!

The book is Red, White & Blue Star Quilts.

I am a tried and true patriotic gal.  I love all things red, white and blue.  If I would go through my quilts, I am ...

Quilt Book Review: Stricking Strip Quilts from Jo's Country Junction

I’ve told you all that when the new year hits, I’m putting a big focus on tackling my strips boxes.  So many of them are overflowing and need attention.  Lately I’ve had more scraps in than scraps going out.  Back in September I was on Amazon and bought several quilt books that all deal with strips and slowly I’ve been telling you about them all.  The latest one I’m sharing it Stricking Strip Quilts by Kate Henderson.

The book has a neat clean look to it and there are quite a few quilts that I ...

Quilt Book Review: Start With Strips from Jo's Country Junction

**This is a repost of Friday’s post.  The pictures didn’t come through.  They are here now**

Do you remember that a bit ago I told you that I want to tackle my strip bins and get some quilts made with all of those strips???  I have not made big plans yet for specific quilts but I am looking for ideas and have it on my brain big time as once I finish up with a few of the projects I have going, I REALLY-REALLY want to get started…so, I’ve been doing some looking to see just ...

Quilt Book Review: A Scrapbook of Quilts from Jo's Country Junction

Here is a redo.  I posted this last week but the photos didn’t show for many of you and you were so disappointed.  I redid the photos and am hoping that this time they work.  I’m so excited about this book and really want to share it with you.  The orange and blue quilt…I REALLY want to make that!!

Here is the post…

Quilt Book Review: 101 Itty Bitty Celebrations from Jo's Country Junction

Instagram can be dangerous.  Don’t get me wrong, I love Instagram.  I often love it more than Facebook.  I feel like there are fewer ads and less controversy.  So I do find myself on Instagram at bedtime for a few minutes.  I know people recommend no phone at bedtime but it’s not a problem for me.  I have no trouble sleeping at this point in my life.

Over the last month or so, Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings has been sharing her Itty Bitty Celebration pieces.  She would post one and I’d be so tempted…but I ...

My New Obsession: Scrap School from Jo's Country Junction

I’ve recently kind of put myself on hold with buying quilt books.  I have plenty.  I don’t need another quilt book.  SERIOUSLY.  I design my own quilts…do I really need to buy other quilt books.  For me, the answer was no but then along came, Scrap School: 12 All-New Designs from Amazing Quilters put together by Lissa Alexander.

The book came on my radar after I learned that Mary and Connie of Country Threads fame had a quilt in the book…This is their quilt.  They spiced things up with some bright colors which isn’t their ...

Book Review: Everyday Embroidery for Modern Stitchers from Jo's Country Junction

When I got an email from C&T Publishing showing their newly released books, I had to smile.

I was a product of the 70s.  Embroidery was big back then and oh my, did I ever love doing it.  I had a jean jacket that I was constantly adding a new embroidery motif to.  I just loved that jean jacket.

This isn’t my actual jacket but mine looked something like this…

Vintage 1970s Hand Embroidered Denim Jacket | Embroidered denim jacket, Embroidered denim jacket vintage, Vintage denim jacketMine had a row of flowers across the back near the bottom.  I LOVED stitching on it.  Back then McCalls and Simplicity had iron-on motifs and I was ...

Quilt Book Review: Quilter’s 10″ Square Precut Companion from Jo's Country Junction

C&T Publishing sent me a quilt ebook to review, Quilter’s 10″ Square Precut Companion by Jenny Doan and Missouri Star Quilt Company.

The book is nice but I would classify it as better for someone who has quilted before.

Here’s the table of contents.

It looks like you will get a lot from the book…and you do but…I want to make a word of caution. If you are a beginning quilter and need/want detailed instructions, this might not be for you.  If you have sewn a few quilts, I think you’ll do just ...
