Book Review: Everyday Embroidery for Modern Stitchers from Jo's Country Junction

When I got an email from C&T Publishing showing their newly released books, I had to smile.

I was a product of the 70s.  Embroidery was big back then and oh my, did I ever love doing it.  I had a jean jacket that I was constantly adding a new embroidery motif to.  I just loved that jean jacket.

This isn’t my actual jacket but mine looked something like this…

Vintage 1970s Hand Embroidered Denim Jacket | Embroidered denim jacket, Embroidered denim jacket vintage, Vintage denim jacketMine had a row of flowers across the back near the bottom.  I LOVED stitching on it.  Back then McCalls and Simplicity had iron-on motifs and I was ...

Quilt Book Review: Quilter’s 10″ Square Precut Companion from Jo's Country Junction

C&T Publishing sent me a quilt ebook to review, Quilter’s 10″ Square Precut Companion by Jenny Doan and Missouri Star Quilt Company.

The book is nice but I would classify it as better for someone who has quilted before.

Here’s the table of contents.

It looks like you will get a lot from the book…and you do but…I want to make a word of caution. If you are a beginning quilter and need/want detailed instructions, this might not be for you.  If you have sewn a few quilts, I think you’ll do just ...

Quilt Book Review: Beyond the Tee from Jo's Country Junction

It’s been slow getting quilt books in for me to review.  It’s something I love to do but haven’t had many books lately.  I love doing the reviews and seeing what’s new and you all seem to enjoy them too.  I ended emailing Martingale to see if they were still offering the program for bloggers to get review copies.  I haven’t heard from them yet.  Hopefully, they still are.

I do have a book from C&T Publishing that I thought was a great take on T-shirt and memory quilts.  It is called Beyond the ...

Quilt Book Review: from Jo's Country Junction

Last week I told you about a T-shirt quilt book.  That got me looking at other T-shirt quilt book and I stumbled across this one….Terrific T-Shirt Quilts:  Turn Tees into Treasured Quilts by Karen M. Burns.

I was really impressed with this book…I think their ideas for quilts are great.

This was a fun way to use different sized logos from the shirts….

This was a cute quilt made from the clothes of a little boy…

…and this one cute for a little girl…I love that two borders are pink and two green.

Here is the cover ...

I got a new ebook to review from C&T Publishing.  The book is Playful Precut Quilts by Amanda Niederhauser.  I think it’s one you might want to check out….especially if you like precuts and/or scraps.  There are some cute quilts in here.

I’m so happy with C&T.  Typically they don’t send me a lot of pictures to work with but this time, they really did.  Here is the table of contents showing off the blocks that are featured in the quilts…

…and here is a sneak peek of all of the projects.  I ...

I’m thrilled at C&T provided WAY more pictures than they typically do and I feel like I can give the book a better review for you.

Here are the pictures from the table on contents.

Quilt Book Review: Lovely Little Hand Embroidery from Jo's Country Junction

C&T Publishing sent me some ebooks to review.  I really do love getting them.  Today’s book is Lovely Little Hand Embroidery by Shirley Hudson.  Paging through them all is a favorite of mine..especially this one.  I started doing embroidery when I was five or six years old and I’ve always enjoyed it so it’s no surprise that I liked this book.

Getting an embroidery book to review was such a treat.

I really like the book but I’m going to do my typical complaint.  C&T Publishing gives me terrible pictures for promoting the ...

Quilt Book Review: Patches of Stars from Jo's Country Junction

You might remember Martingale Publishing had recently sent me a bunch of ebooks to review.  I was so tickled and a little bit sad when they came to an end.  Every night before bed I had been flipping through books.  But…the books came to an end.

Well then I was cleaning out my email the other day and SURPRISE!!  There in the recesses were more books from Martingale.  I don’t remember getting them.  The emails weren’t opened.  Hmm.  That’s not typical of me at all so, I am back to enjoying quilt books and have more ...

Quilt Book Review: The New Hexagon 2 from Jo's Country Junction

Sadly, this is the last book I have from the bunch that Martingale Publishing sent me to review this time around.  Oh my…I’ve had so much fun checking them out and dreaming of all the projects I’d love to make.  I buy quilt books from time to time and often I don’t even make a quilt from them.  I just enjoy them.  This one is a book I am oh-so tempted to do that with.  This book The New Hexagon by Katja Marek is amazing!

The book focus around paper pieced hexagons.  The book is broken ...

Here is a gem in the bunch of quilt books that Martingale sent to me to review.  It’s A Country’s Call by Connie and Mary of Country Threads fame.  Of course I would love this book!!

This is one of those books that if I have more time in my life, I’d love to make every quilt..only larger.

Don’t you love that cover quilt?  I sure do.  I love the colors.  Definitely a winning combination!

By far, I prefer reproduction fabrics but often I making quilts for others so I end up using a variety ...

Quilt Book Review: Fresh Fat-Quarter Quilts from Jo's Country Junction

It’s been like Christmas here with all the great ebook titles Martingale Publishing has sent me.  I just love looking through all the copies.  It’s so fun to see the projects that others have come up with.  Today’s book is Fresh Fat-Quarter Quilts by Andy Knowlton.  I think the title for the book is great as the quilts really are fresh and bright in color.  With winter here in Iowa, it’s great to see some bright cheery color!

The book features 12 projects.  They range from size to difficulty.  If a fun book as the premise ...

Quilt Book Review: Machine Quilting Idea Book from Jo's Country Junction

I was excited when Martingale Publishing sent me a bunch of quilt ebooks to review.  I was especially excited when I saw this book, Machine Quilting Idea Book by  Vicki Ruebel.  I love paging through books on machine quilting.  I always find my hand “air drawing” trying to replicate the pattern.  I grabbed a drink and settled in to page through this one hoping it would be one I love.

The book has basic instructions on preparing to machine quilt and then goes right into the designs.  The designs are all numbered by “how many spools” in difficulty the designs ...

Quilt Book Review: Sisterhood of Scraps from Jo's Country Junction

I have to say,  I’m loving several of the books that Martingale Publishing sent me in their last installment of quilt books to review.  The Sisterhood of Scraps is no exception….The author of this is Lissa Alexander and for those of you who don’t know, she’s one of the driving forces at Moda.

The cover of the book says 12 quilts from 7 designers….admittedly, I really, really like most of the quilts.  So many of them are ones I could easily make.

Yes please to this blue and white beauty you see below.  Oh my ...

Quilt Book Review: Treasure Hunt from Jo's Country Junction

I’ve been hoping to get some book to review from Martingale Publishing.  I typically like their books but there isn’t a regularity to how they send the ebooks for me to review.  I noticed I hadn’t gotten any books since August so I even sent them a note asking if the program for bloggers to review books was still on.  Happily, it is.  Just last week I finally got some books to look over.  I’m happy to say I’ve got some AMAZING books to show you.

First off today is one of my absolute favorites ...

Quilt Book Review: Charm School from Jo's Country Junction

I was wading through my email trying to delete as many emails as I could when I came across an email from C&T Publishing.  They were announcing releases.  I looked at the date of the email and it was from August.  I had never opened it.  Oops.  I was just going to delete it as after all, if hadn’t worried about it in all this time, I probably didn’t need to bother opening it.  Curiosity got the best of me and I opened it.

I’m glad I did as this lovely book to review was in ...

Quilt Book Review: Zakka from the Heart from Jo's Country Junction

C&T Publishing sent me books to review again.  I picked this one right away.  I have a book by the same author that has become one of the books I keep at my nightstand and page through.  This one, I can see me paging through night after night too.  This book is Kakka from the Heart by Minki Kim.

I tell you this all the time…and it’s true again.  The people in charge of promotions are doing a crappy job at picking photos to promote the book.

Here are the photos they have available….

I’m guessing ...

River Road Quilt Shop from Jo's Country Junction

I told you that when I went for my biopsy on Monday that I stopped at the River Road Quilt Shop in Lacrosse.  It’s only a few blocks from the hospital and clinic so it’s easy to stop.   I’m trying to stay out of quilt shops and not spend any more money than I already have (more on that to come)…but the mystery quilt colors were revealed and I need a few more pieces so what’s a girl to do but shop.

The outside doesn’t look very friendly, does it?  But I’ve been ...
