A finish and new project from The Crafty Quilter

I can never get ahead. I’m always starting something new before I’ve finished something old. Well, I finished something not-so-old, and I made progress on a few old UFO’s, so I gave in to the sparkly something new. But let me show you what I finished first!

Last night, I put the last few stitches on the hanging sleeve of my Patchwork Pumpkins wall hanging. Just in time for October!

Patchwork Pumpkins Wall hanging made and designed by Julie Cefalu @ The Crafty Quilter.

Modern Logs QAL Part 4: Optional Pieced Quilt Backing from Christa Quilts

Whenever I make a super scrappy looking quilt like Modern Logs, I often have a lot of leftovers that I love to incorporate into the back of the quilt. This allows me to use up more fabric, personalize the quilt a bit, and make the back (almost) as interesting as the front! If you prefer to use a plain pieced back, this week will give you more time to finish your quilt top.

Modern Logs pieced quilt backing, made from leftover Good Vibes fat quarters, 2 yards of Gumballs print in Coral and a few leftover odds and ends from ...

Blocks Heads- Block 36- Laurie Simpson from Moda Lissa

Today is Laurie Simpson’s turn to share a quilt block. Please visit Laurie’s blog to learn about her block and download the pattern.

I showed a while back that I keep the patterns and blocks in a notebook. Now my notebook is overflowing so not all the blocks fit and it is getting time for me to finally decide how I am going to set this fish mash of blocks together.

Shown above is my version of Laurie’s block along with the blocks that didn’t fit in the notebook. If you look close I ...

This is such a fun block and gives you a great opportunity to use lots of colors and prints. Really the only tricky thing about this block is keeping track of where the colors go as you make your Flying Geese units.

Stars at Sea Quilt Block from Snowy Days Quilting

stars at sea quilt block

It’s my week to design the block for the QAL by the Sea mystery, and I’m just so excited! QAL by the Sea is a free ocean-themed quilt along run by Partners in Design. If you haven’t been following along, you can get all of the info here.

Why Stars?

When I think of the ocean, the first thing that comes to mind is the amazingly clear sky in the middle of the sea. I imagine being hundreds of miles from any light source, and looking up in awe at stars unlike anything ...

Modern Logs QAL Part 2 – Sewing the Blocks from Christa Quilts

Now it’s time to take our wonky strips and sew them together into improv Log cabin blocks!
Follow along with the Modern Logs quilt pattern on pages 4-7.

Thinking ahead: you can sew scraps together if you need more length for each of the logs. You can also use either side of the fabric to give your blocks more interest and sparkle. The key is that these blocks are wonky and improv so no two blocks will be exactly the same!

The block below is what I call “super improv”.  It has a couple places where I’ve added ...
