Two more Paper Chain blocks complete from Freshly Pieced

IMG_2017Well, I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that it’s been a crazy month for me. We’ve been isolating for about two weeks now, and today was Day 1 of my girls’ online school, which involved no shortage of frustrations. But I’m trying to forge ahead and catch up on some blogging anyway—might as well carry on as normal in those few areas of life where we can! So without further ado, here are the February and March Paper Chain blocks.

First up, February’s block is X Spot by Faith Jones. This is ...

This week we will be sewing our chain blocks using the 5″ charm squares + black accent fabric.

More Quilt-y good news from The Crafty Quilter

In light of the current world events, it’s so nice to see how our community is responding with generosity and kindness. I’m happy to share more quilt-y good news that has popped up in my social media circle.

More Quilt-y good news at The Crafty Quilter

Many of you are spending all of your time at home and self-isolating. That might include young children or grandchildren that require extra attention. In my geographic location (northern California), we are on mandatory quarantine unless there’s an essential need.

I’m fortunate that I don’t have young children to care for and I have plenty of fun ...

Finding the Silver Lining from From My Carolina Home

It seems that everyone is really busy right now, with more things to do around the house, working from home, video conferencing, kids home from school, and trying to be sure we have what we need for an extended home stay-cation.  I saw another blogger call it a ‘corona-cation’, and that seems like a good title too.  I hope you are all staying safe and well. So, now that we are spending more time in our sewing and craft rooms, I wanted to find a way to inspire your creativity and sewing time.  I keep thinking about the rabbit that ...

Block Chain QAL Week 1 – Cutting the Fabric from Christa Quilts

Welcome to the Block Chain quilt along! This week we will be cutting all the fabric needed to make this quilt. It will be super easy because the center of each block features precut squares which are already cut for you (one of the reasons I love working with precuts)!

Gridwork Charmpack

My version uses 36 out of the 42 squares included in the Gridwork Charm Pack.

Sorting the Charm Squares

You will need one charm square for each block in your quilt. Because the throw size consists of 36 blocks and my  Gridwork charm pack includes 42 squares, I pulled out ...

Weeds, Frogs and a little Lunarcy from Clever Chameleon

Little Arkaroola Frog colour board at Clever Chameleon

Everything grows like weeds after summer rain!

Including the weeds. This week we have been madly helping out with weed control around the Arkaroola village. It’s a crucial few days where the weeds are big enough to easily identify amongst all the beneficial plants, but haven’t started dropping seed yet. The window of opportunity is short, and for the Bindii is almost shut already.

Between that, and schooling, I have still managed a little sightseeing and a little sewing. It helps that we had a public holiday yesterday to get a few things done. I’ve got all ...

Block Chain Quilt Along Begins Next Week – Round up Your Supplies and Join in the Fun! from Christa Quilts

I’m excited to help you make my Block Chain quilt from start to finish over the next six weeks. All you need is a copy of the quilt pattern; cheerleading and moral support are free!!

Block Chain designed and made by Christa Watson

Block Chain by Christa Watson

This colorful modern quilt is a remake of an earlier design I created before precuts became so popular (and before I was a fabric designer). Over the years, I’ve had numerous requests to reconfigure the design so that it can be made from charm packs:  5″ x 5 ...

Arkaroola Time Warp: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday from Clever Chameleon

Arkaroola sunset colours at Clever Chameleon

Time is a bit Weird in the Outback

I know this can happen anywhere, but it seems to me that Arkaroola is in the grip of some strange sort of time warp phenomenon thingy. I work really hard, do and see so many things and yet time stands still. Nothing changes, every day is the same. But then I find that the calendar has skipped an entire month….. and everything has changed while I was looking but not noticing. And it still feels like no time has passed….

But it must have, because I have finally done some sewing. Lunarcy ...

Broken Road Inventory QAL March from The Inquiring Quilter

In an earlier post, I described what an inventory quilt was and how I fell in love with them. ❤️

Pieced Primrose Quilt Along Week 8-Binding to Finish from Christa Quilts

I sure have enjoyed making my Pieced Primrose quilts and I hope you have, too. Now it’s time to put the finishing touches on the quilt with binding- either by hand or machine. Just remember, if you are still working on your quilt, I’m here to cheer you on – no matter how long it takes!

Pieced Primrose Warm Colorway

Because I wanted to include all 10 prints of warm or cool from my Abstract Garden line, I used 9 fabrics for the blocks and then the focal print “Raised Beds” for the backing and binding of both Pieced Primrose quilts.

Pieced Primrose in the Cool Colorway

Just add water: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday from Clever Chameleon

Australian Native Orange colour board at Clever Chameleon

The desert was only sleeping

I have been into the Australian Outback many times in the last 20 years, but this unique environment never fails to amaze me. It is resilient and diverse, and just because everything is bone dry, it doesn’t mean that everything is dead. On the contrary – when the conditions are right…… BAM! Life emerges from places and in forms you wouldn’t believe! Two nights ago I saw what looked like an ant that was only about 1/4 inch long, but with an antennae over an inch in length. It was investigating around about ...

Inventory Quilts...What Are They? from The Inquiring Quilter

Have you heard about the new sensation—inventory quilts?

An inventory quilt is a scrap quilt that captures the fabrics in your stash at any given moment. In other words, the quilt acts as a visual inventory of the fabrics you love!

Stash Feb2020 1.jpg

Kind of a fun idea, right? I mean, you hand-selected each of the fabrics in your stash so why not use them?

Inventory quilts can also be great stash busters! For example, if you focus on a specific group of fabrics in your stash that you want to reduce (such as blue and red which I seem to ...

Mosaic Mystery QAL Quilt Top from Needle and Foot

I made it!! It is only the 24th of February and my quilt top is complete for the Mosaic Mystery Quilt Along. I have to tell you I had so much fun with this event – between selling so many great kits for it, meeting new quilters through Cheryl’s Facebook Group, completing this quilt top which I truly love, and seeing all of the different versions of the top. Cheryl’s QAL’s are extremely popular and there are now hundreds of Mosaic quilts in the world. The amazing thing is the speed with which some of these quilters can ...

Still Here and Finally There! from Clever Chameleon

Lunarcy colour board at Clever Chameleon

Hoping to be past the dramas and back to sewing soon

Sorry that I missed you last Tuesday. We were on the road and it all got too hard in the end….. as you will find out shortly(!). It’s taken three attempts since School Induction week for us to make it back to Arkaroola, but third time’s the charm! We have been here for a week now, and almost settled into a routine. Not the routine that I think is sustainable for the year, but a routine nonetheless. Regular food, laundry, ablutions, schooling and sleep. Now to sneak ...

February Scrappy Projects from Needle and Foot

I started the month off by working on two scrappy projects. Kind of nice to play a bit and use up a few pieces from my scrap bins. Besides what else was I to do while the Super Bowl was on??

The first block I made is for the 2020 Monthly Color Challenge. The color is blue and the block was a quick make. Coincidentally, I used polka dots again this month (I used them last month too, but in yellow).

These look so happy and it is making me wonder if I should try to go for a polka ...

Pieced Primrose Quilt Along Week 5 – Quilt Top Assembly from Christa Quilts
