What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

I mentioned to someone recently that I am a great starter, but finishing this quilt makes me feel like I can tackle all those projects waiting in The Bins. 

I talked about this quilt in a post a year ago.  I got the top assembled, pieced the backing, and packed it up in anticipation of The Move.

This has been a long time project. Well, it seems that way. It became part of my 5 quilt UFO project in March. I had 10 cut in April. I had 5 made in May.  I made more blocks in June. All the blocks were made in July  And the top is made in August. Jen didn't border hers, but, I am worried if I don't do something, it will be hard to have the binding meet the points on the edges. decisions..decisions...decisions

 I needed to cut a bunch of 4 1/2 inch squares ( blocks from a swap and quilt here ) for the rest of the uneven 9 patches I have left. I was able to see a size of quilt that I would want with some of them. I think I want it longer, as far as I can, with what I have left of the blocks. I have been able to use up smaller pieces of cream scraps for the 4 1/2 inch alternate blocks. It feels good to clean up a stack of odd pieces.

I have a bunch (scientific term) of leftover blocks from a swap and circa 1880 quilt here. It is time to stop moving them around, and, do something with them. The blocks are 4 1/2 inches. I cut a variety of 4 1/2 inch creams, and, started sewing them at a guild open sew. This is as far as I got. I still have a pile of squares that need trimmed, and, it might be enough to make a good size quilt. So, more trimming and cutting, and then, we can resume the regularly scheduled program. I am ...

I had a chance to assemble more of my rectangle wrangle quilt. It seems magical, as I add each row, and, see how the pattern emerges. There are a lot of seams that need matching, so, it is slower than my patience, sometimes. It is a big quilt, probably queen size, and very heavy. But I love it so far.

I am so excited. I have all the blocks done for rectangle wrangle, and, I have started to assemble the top. I think it is going to be a fun quilt to make. Other than playing with the blocks to see how they will look together, I am just sewing twosies.

My One monthly goal for July was to have all 84 blocks finished And, I have met the goal. yipee

I am finally working on the downhill blocks for rectangle wrangle. All of the uphill blocks are finished. I think the remaining strips are a little ho hum, but, I will use them. Apparently, I have pulled out all my favorites.  In such a busy quilt, they will fit just fine.

I want to finish all 42 downhill blocks for my July one monthly goal at elm street quilts.

I have a love/ hate relationship with Jen kingwell patterns. I fall in love with the quilts, but, agonize over the patterns and execution. My quilting buddies decided to make wensleydale found in kingwell's book. I started gathering scraps and colors for it. The templates and book was pricey, so I waited for a cheaper alternative. I ended up buying the paper piecing papers over the templates. But, I waited until I wanted to paper piece the blocks, which didn't happen. So, I bought the templates, anyway. I have made progress on my rectangle wrangle quilt. I try to make 2 blocks every day. There are 84 blocks, so slow and steady wins the race. I tried to take it with me for a portable project, but, made too many mistakes. It has to stay home. poor baby

I have been working on rectangle wrangle. I try to make 2 blocks every day. I cut over 400 shirt strips in 2018. After, I sew the strip sets, and, make the tube, I can play with each block. I love shirt fabric, the feel, the colors, the plaids. And, I know the best part will be seeing a whole quilt come together. I think they are always striking. And, any combo of colors will work. My Friday finish this week is scrappy pinwheels. I really enjoyed making this pattern and quilt. I started it in 2018 in an effort to use 2 1/2 inch scraps. It would be great for a jelly roll. One jelly roll would make it bigger than this one. I liked it so much, I recently cut another one in upcycled shirt fabrics.

kristals is a top. They are brighter than in the pictures. I took the photo at the library. It must be noted, as part of the friendly competetion between Linda and me, I was 4 days ahead of her in finishing the top. And, yep, since I am her longarmer, Guess who will win the finished quilt? But, I love her version, and mine.

I have been sewing rows for my scrappy pinwheels quilt. The center is done and waiting for borders. I think I will keep it simple.

I had a chance to make more scrappy pinwheel blocks, and, check how they will work as a row. I am really liking how easy this pattern is for scraps. When I cut my 2 1/2 inch strips for any other project, I can cut either the 4 1/2 inch or 6 1/2 inch rectangle from the leftover, depending on what is left. If, I can get a 2 1/2 inch square from any leftovers, I can use that, too. The background is a 4 1/2 inch square and 2 1/2 inch squares. I ...

I have decided to finish my kristals quilt for March as my one monthly goal. I have 3 blocks together. and I want to make 9. So far, I have the rest of the blocks on the design wall in a sketchy pattern to check for fabrics. The first block was a head scratcher, then, it started to make more sense, and, then, it was fun. Probably true for all challenges in the quilting world.

I opened another Ufo box for my 5 quilts projects, and, found a fun older project. So, I am sewing scrappy pinwheels at Friday sews. It is easy and portable. It is fun to revisit some oldie but goodie fabrics as I piece the blocks. I found 3 different block pieces cut, and, made, when I opened the box. I needed to sew into block quarters below. This could easily be a jelly roll pattern.

Evidently, I can't count. I needed to cut and add a few more. My goal was 80 blocks. 

 I have a finish and a one monthly goal completion to celebrate. My circa 1880 quilt is finished. I used 225 swap blocks from my quilty friends to make the top and added a border fabric that was gifted to me from another quilty friend some time ago. I could not be more pleased. The photos are a little dark from an Indiana dreary winter day, but, the quilt is shiny to me. So much talent from other quilters are part of my quilt in each little block.
