Quilter Practice from Kat & Cat Quilts

Happy weekend! It's nice and cool here and I have some great big cozy quilts. You may recall that a little while ago I had a large split nine quilt from Priscilla that was finished off by Denies and Kay. Denies & Kay recently purchased a long arm and volunteered to finish some CiL quilts as they learn their new machine. It's a mutually beneficial exchange!

Priscilla also made this large (61"x81") patriotic quilt which Denise and Kay quilted with Baptist fans. I really like this simple design with the strings and the HSTs in the corner. I ...

Great Big Quilts from Kat & Cat Quilts

Some big cozy quilts this week from the long armers! Wendy quilted this one that Sherrill pieced. Perfect for the falling leaves and fall weather.

These colors are similar to the ones in our latest drive and I am loving how those blocks are looking at they come in.

Priscilla pieced this pastel chain top and Pam quilted it.

And this blue and yellow top was pieced by Jeanine and quilted by Pam.

Pam has an uncanny knack for perfectly flat, smooth bindings. I'm terribly impressed.

Her bindings are so smooth I had a hard time getting my gravity ...

Bright Happy Quilts from Louise from Kat & Cat Quilts

Tammy is still hard at work on the May/June block drive quilts! Visit her blog to see the latest!

Louise sent me this batch of orphan block quilts a while back and they've been waiting their turn for a photo shoot.  The blocks that started this quilt came from Cathy and Louise added some.

Some of the blocks appear to be from the book Farmhouse Vintage. I love the embroidered details on the mixer and the bee.

Louise blogged about these quilts on her site here.  So you can read more details there.

These wonky stars and the ...

Rounding up the Strays from Kat & Cat Quilts

Happy weekend friends, I hope everyone is doing well! I had a very relaxing 2 weeks off and now I'm back to the hospital grind. School has started again and I have a new group of anxious future nurses to warp *ahem* I mean teach.

Pam recently took on my stash of leftover string blocks from the past 5 years of January drives.  This quilt is made of the 12.5" blocks. There are several different designs, but they still go together really well.

These leftover string blocks from a pre-2019 string block drive were assembled and quilted by ...

Orphans, UFOs, and WIPs from Kat & Cat Quilts

Welcome back to another rundown of quilts Louise has put together from the unfinished projects and odds and ends that are donated to Covered in Love! This modern setting of orphan blocks with negative space is one of my favorites, Louise blogged about it here

Louise also made this Jacob's Ladder from some charm packs. She wrote a funny blog about it here.

These present blocks came from Christine and made a quick finish, blogged here

I tried to capture to metallic gold in the fabrics, but you'll just have to take my word for it! There were ...

With a Little Help From my Friends from Kat & Cat Quilts

Top by Beth, pattern "Wanda" by GE Designs, quilted by me

More quilts finished this week from tops sent in by generous quilters!  Covered in Love is rapidly approaching 1000 quilts.  Do you guys have any suggestions how we should celebrate?

Top by Beth, pattern "Hope" by GE Designs, quilted by me

When we hit 300 back in January of 2018 I had a giveaway along with the block drive, which seems like a good idea.

Top by Beth, pattern "Toni" by GE Designs, quilted by me

The pace of quilts this spring has obviously been much faster than usual ...

Louise and Friends from Kat & Cat Quilts

Hello quilting friends and Happy Easter, Happy Spring, etc.  I recently sent Louise a great big box (nearly 50lbs) of UFOs and other goodies, and she has already returned 4 quilts

This neutral top from Meg was in the box since it called for fancy quilting and Louise is much better at that than I am!

The top has piecing, applique, and other techniques to create texture with tone-on-tone fabrics.  It was hard to take pictures of but it's a stunner in real life!

Louise added a thin flange of golden brown fabric and a neutral checked border.  Her ...

Hooray for Louise from Kat & Cat Quilts

Louise has been putting her time at home to good use finishing quilts for Covered in Love at quite the rate! For anyone who is unfamiliar, Louise and I have had an arrangement for a while where I ship her UFOs and orphan blocks donated to CiL and she recombines them to make beautiful finished quilts!

You can read more from Louise about how she put together the first 3 quilts on this post on her blog here.

She has a real knack for matching different projects and fabrics and I love her FMQ!

These Christmas Geese and coordinating ...

Saltwater Quilts from Kat & Cat Quilts

Hello quilters :)  These three quilts came from Louise, who continues to assemble donated UFO and orphan blocks for Covered in Love from her sewing room on her floating home.  If you haven't seen her series on how she manages to quilt on a boat you definitely should!

Louise posted about these three quilts here.  This first one was made with "vintage" bits sent in by Priscilla.

This one is a mix of orphan blocks I sent her and some blocks from an online guild.  I love the quilting style Louise used on it!

You should go read Louise's ...

Big Quilts Back from the Longarm from Kat & Cat Quilts

Happy weekend everybody, we made it through another week, and almost through another month!  I recently got a couple of quilt back from Mel, a longarmer in Central Texas who donates her talents to Covered in Love

This blue nine patch top came from Carolyn and is at least partially handstitched! Carolyn also sent in two other, large, handpieced tops that Mel finished you can see here.

I love to share stories of the impact that CiL quilts have with you all whenever I can. Chaplain Perry recently texted me this story to pass along:

Four years ago would have ...

(More) UFOs Finished for CiL from Kat & Cat Quilts

Welcome back to more tops that were sent in to be finished for Covered in Love! The top one, with the pretty HSTs was sent in by Jan O. and finished by me.  I LOVE the color scheme and the cool modern design.

Next, Nancy C. sent in this masculine quilt using some small fabric scraps.  It looks like it might be partially based on a Crazy Mom Quilts pattern.

And finally, this bright and wild (mostly) batik churndash top from Priscilla. All three cozy, cheerful quilts that will be perfect for families in the hospital!

I hope you had ...

New Directions from Kat & Cat Quilts

Tops by Priscilla

Before all the Covid stuff started CiL was working on a small new project that I'm excited to tell you about! As some of you may know, when CiL started years ago I was working at one hospital. Then, after getting my NP license I moved to the other large area hospital (literally next door).  Together, these medical systems serve a large rural area covering much of North East Texas.

CiL has continued, all this time, to distribute quilts only at the first hospital. The program is very well establish and flourishing there and we have ...

Some Fall Colors in the Winters from Kat & Cat Quilts

Hello and happy weekend quilters! Texas is having its usual insane winter weather. 80 degree days and snow in the same week. I hope things are going well wherever you are.  In memory of my favorite, albeit the most fleeting season, here are a batch of Fall colored quilts.

Teresa sent me this Fall top with the leaves. I added borders and Kathy quilted it.  I had the perfect backing to go with it, too.

Pam C. sent in 2 matching crazy blocks quilts with green sashing and Kathy quilted them as well.

I love some of the surprises in ...

Kathy & Co. Quilts from Kat & Cat Quilts

The last round of Covered in Love quilts Kathy helped with included 3 quilt tops that just needed quilting to finish. Priscilla had sent in another of her great scrappy rectangular 8-patches.

Kathy finished it with a stipple and binding and backing from Holly.  Next was this patriotic top from Michele.

I had the perfect back and binding in my donations, which I sent along with the top. This will fit right in with July's red/white/blue star block drive quilts.

Finally, Barbara had sent in this pretty, soft-colored star top full of florals.

I had a bunch ...
