Sunday Quilt Inspiration: 5" Charm Squares from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Charm squares. We love to admire their colors, stack them in piles, imagine them as quilts. How can you get more of them? Well, visiting your local quilt shop is a good first step (as though you needed to be told). And you can always cut your own. But if you want more charm squares …

What can you do with a pack of Charm Squares? Lots, actually. But it probably helps to know what Charm Squares are. Generally these five inch fabric squares come in packs of 42 pieces, so one pack will make a crib quilt.

A convenient little chart to help you
figure out how to use them.
Most often a pack will include all of the fabrics in a particular line, possibly even all the colorways, in one neatly cut, perfectly square stack.

Great use of tree stump. Just make sure you put bird houses and feeders at least 5 -6 feet above the ground. Otherwise they are easy prey for cats and other predators. :)

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: RVs from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Hey, I found this really awesome Etsy listing at https://www.etsy.com/listing/239869781/rv-decor-camping-rules-primitive-rusticRichard has been bing-watching RV shows. The last one is about luxury RVs in the 3-400,00 dollar range. Not something we are the least interested in for ourselves, but it's fun to see what is out there in the world of big-spenders. Of course, this got me thinking of quilts with campers and RVs. And guess what? Yes, of course, there are a few.

Sorting It Out from From the Strawberry Patch...

With nowhere to go, and a stash of fabric and supplies on hand, it's like being on a never-ending retreat; these are the days we quilters have been stockpiling for all those years! But-- I need to slow down and sort this out. I have always been that person who's thinking of the "next quilt" before I finish what I'm working on now. With this current situation, for me, it's worse than ever. I

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: Daisies from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Happy SQI today! It's the end of March (a grandson's birthday) and we're all still in quarantine. This week I hope to add a few daisies (Shasta, maybe) to the garden of flowers that are thriving in the yard. And so, I thought that perhaps daisies would be a good theme for quilts. Guess what?! It is!

And because SQI must always have quilts, here are just a few that I discovered...

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: Face Masks from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Face Mask Pattern - Free Sewing Patter • Craft PassionWith all the issues of the Coronavirus pandemic, running out of supplies seems to be in the forefront of the news. The situation is expected to become much worse in the coming months. Makers can help alleviate the problem:

"In settings where facemasks are not available, HCP might use homemade masks (e.g., bandana, scarf) for care of patients with COVID-19 as a last resort. However, homemade masks are not considered PPE, since their capability to protect HCP is unknown. Caution should be exercised when considering this option. Homemade masks should ideally be used in combination with a face shield ...

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: Kaleidoscope from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Teleidoscope - is a kind of kaleidoscope, with a lens and an open view, so it can be used to form kaleidoscopic patterns from objects outside the instrument, rather than from items installed as part of it. Invented by John Lyon Burnside III. A spherical ball lens is often used.

What I've been calling kaleidoscope seems to be "one block wonder" quilts. I can't imagine why because they certainly look like kaleidoscopes. Regardless of what we call them, they are a wonder to watch unfold.

We all remember the kaleidoscopes of our youth--the tubes that had a hole to peek into. You'd turn the tube and the colors and designs would change. If like me, you had to share one with seven sisters, your biggest fear was that it would run out of designs. Not that I didn't share, but I did fret. (I was a ...

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: Sunset / Sunrise from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Yesterday my sister, Courtney, and I were driving home from visiting another sister, Laura. At the top of an overpass, Courtney exclaimed, "Oh look!" We had a perfect view of one gorgeous sunset.

I got only a glimpse because I was driving and this particular overpass makes a serious curve away from the setting sun. Nevertheless, I shared a spectacular moment with Courtney. She has dementia, so every lucid moment is important.

As we drove along, she kept looking back and naming the colors in the sky and I enjoyed the few minutes that she was able to verbalize the ...

"23 ideas vintage quilting antiques flowers garden for 2019 #garden #flowers #vintage #quilting

Everything old is new again." Have you heard that cliche'? It seems to be especially true these days with the idea of "farmhouse" decor. Now, I won't get into what real farmhouses used to have (and as I was raised in one and knew many families who lived in a true farm house) but it seems that old stuff is popular stuff. If, that is, the "old stuff" is newly made. Haha. A little confusing, no? To me, the best thing about it all is that the cliche' is sort of true: old things have value again. One ...
