More Hexies from Quilts....etc.

We have been having a bit of heat this past 5 days or so but at least the humidity has been lower than it is at this time of year normally.  Outside on the porch is relaxing in the morning if I get out there early enough – I listened to my audio book “The […]

Pineapples and Plants from Quilts....etc.

The plants are growing like crazy and it will be no rain for awhile now so I have to watch carefully all the plants growing in buckets to keep them watered.  Mainly I do that kind of work in the evening and should be able to do it every other evening I hope. I was […]

Same Old Stuff from Quilts....etc.

Not much changes here lately – I have been working on the same things.  The yarn has been put aside for a little bit I guess – kind of warm to work with it but it gets picked up now and then so progress has been made but no new photos of it.  On hot […]

Not Much Done from Quilts....etc.

Like I thought I didn’t get much done in the sewing department yesterday – when you have an unusually cool day you cut grass and whatever outside stuff you feel like, read and a little handwork. I did 3 more stacks of strips cut for the pineapple quilt and just now as I was writing […]

Pineapples and a Diamond from Quilts....etc.

It was so very hot and humid yesterday that I barely went outside – it is that heat index that will really get you when it is 88 but feels like 98! and now today – what a difference high of 78? really I sure hope they are right – that will be feeling so […]

A Slow Sunday Stitching from Quilts....etc.

yes it will be a slow Sunday indeed as we have another day hitting around 93 – I might get out early again with Melanie for a walk and then it will be in the house for me again.  I spent very little time outside other than a walk yesterday morning at the trails before […]

Hexies are Back Out from Quilts....etc.

Instead of working on the last two blue flowers on the corner of Morning Glory I sat is aside yesterday to get some hexie work done on the two that I started last weekend.  Sometimes I can work for hours on hexies other times just 15 minutes or so at a time.  I didn’t have […]

A Little Sewing and Some Flowers from Quilts....etc.

Morning spent outside reading on the porch and the hot humid afternoon was spent inside with the air on – a little baking done and a little sewing. I feel like I am sharing the same things every day! Sorry about that – just trying for some finishes. Granola made to last a couple weeks […]

A Little More Morning Glory from Quilts....etc.

Decisions on Morning Glory still have not been made but I am leaning towards more work – at least the opposing corner – I can’t say if I would ever get all four corners done so really will need to decide soon.  Four blue flowers with the embroidered centers and then this corner will be […]

Such a Rainy Day from Quilts....etc.

EDITED:  Bluprint (on side bar) just added a note on to their page with this information: The last day and time to purchase individual classes, patterns, new subscriptions and supplies is May 31, 2020 at 11:59 pm EDT.  Maybe there will be no final sales after all?  What a let down. Thursday I was in […]

A Little of This and That from Quilts....etc.

I’m having fun doing one pineapple block a day – I had thought of doing two but the next fabric I was pretty sure was going to have to be pre-washed and it did – a very dark blue/black batik – I will need to press that before cutting today.  I had one more selected […]

Masks Loops, Quilting from Quilts....etc.

Someone had asked me about how to make elastic loops for face masks from a t-shirt – cut the seams off of the shirt making yourself a square or rectangle of fabric cut strips about 3/4 inch wide and the length of your piece – you will sub cut these into 7 inch pieces.  It […]

Another Pineapple Block from Quilts....etc.

These are pretty easy to make as big as the pieces are but still I will probably only do one a day while I work on other things too – eventually it will get done. The two together This section of the Christmas quilt was done on Saturday night and over into this block About […]

New Blocks from Quilts....etc.

Yes I am crazy I know but I started a new quilt – I bought some Pineapple block papers a month or so ago from the Fat Quarter shop and just felt like trying it out.  I normally do not like paper piecing but I have several patterns that use them and thought that this […]

A Couple of Finishes from Thread Head

The Pineapple quilt is all finished! Washed, to soften it, and on our bed.

The quilt started out like this in 2016-

It is cut with a template from Marti Michell. This is the one for 1" finished strips.

I cut out all the blocks, and just pieced them over time. This is probably my favourite way to make a quilt.

The blocks are 14". They were really nice to sew, and went together so well.

There are 49 blocks, set on a 7x7 layout.

I quilted an all over meander (because that is one of my favourite designs to ...

January Round-Up and a Start from Thread Head

January was a productive month for me. I think the main reason was because to celebrate 10 years of blogging I decided to blog every day for the month - I needed things to write about! Some days it was just about tiling bathrooms, but at least those are finished now too.

I finished four projects in January - a woven table runner (with handspun yarn as part of the weft), a quilted wallhanging, a quilted table runner, and a quilt for a single bed.
I completed four projects as part of OPAM (Thanks Kris!), and two of the projects were part ...

Pineapple Quilt Top from Thread Head

The WOOFA Challenge is amazing! I am working on my third of seven projects I hope to finish this year (quilts that have been languishing for years!). It helps that it is winter on the Canadian prairies, I don't work outside my home, we will be renovating the basement later in the year, so I won't have  a sewing space for a while, and I am determined to finish these quilts.

Here are my Pineapple Quilt blocks laid out - once again with so many different fabrics it is hard that the same ones aren't side by side ...

mini template from Making A Lather

This just arrived in the mail, and I am really excited to try it. It is the mini version of the pineapple template I have been using.

The center square is 1 1/2 inches.

And round one is 2 1/2 inches. I don't really have time to work on these right now, but they are a fun distraction. I haven't even started the mystery quilt, yet.

I had no intention of ever going smaller with the pineapple block, until, I saw this quilt at the Indy quilt show. It said it was made with the mini ...
