Can I Get a Whoop Whoop? There's No Place Like Home... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It's finally Friday!!  Did your week seem to go on forever?  Well, no problem - it's almost the weekend!  Since it's Friday, that means it's time for us to get our whoop whoop on - I hope you're ready!  Let's get started!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

I worked on a lot of things this week, but I only have one finish to show for it.  However, I love this finish, so it's good enough to whoop about!!  Here's the story of how it came about...

I found this bunch of leftover 4-patch blocks in one of ...

Make-A-List Monday - Making Some Headway! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Last week sure went by in a blur, didn't it?  It seems like it was just starting, but here we are at Monday again.  That's ok, I got  LOT done last week - so let's see how it went!

1.  Paint two pieces of furniture in the kitchen.
Done!  And I'm so happy with the way they turned out...

Now I'm ready to paint some more furniture!

2.  Make the two memory pillow covers from denim shirts.
Done!  I like the way these look - I may make some of my own!

3.  Cut out ...

Can I Get a Whoop Whoop? Easin' on Down The Road... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Wow, has it been week!  But it's finally Friday, and that means it's time to get our whoop whoop on!  I'm excited to have some things to share this week, so let's get started...

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

If you'll remember, last week I didn't have much to show because I had been painting.  Well, I painted some more this week, and I learned a valuable lesson while doing so.  My first attempt at chalk painting yielded this...

I wasn't very happy with the way it finished, and sent this pic to my daughter (who ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... Daydreaming... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, Wednesday has snuck up on me - again!  But I do have a couple of things to show you so today won't be a total waste!

I did work on that unmentionable tub this week, pressing, folding, and filing the scraps away in their correct color bin.  Still haven't hit the bottom, but at least I made some progress!  And I have a plan.  Remember this quilt?

Well, it looks like my desire to make this quilt, my blue tub's overflowing status, and my my granddaughter's newly confessed love of anything blue have all ...

Make-A-List Monday - It's QuiltCon Registration Week!!! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

The weekend is behind us (alas!) and that means it's time to tackle a brand new week! Oh, the possibilities!  And this is a very special week - QuiltCon 2019 early registration opens on Tuesday morning! (Can you tell I'm excited?)  But before we get into all that, let's take a look at last week's list and see how it went...

1.  Quilt the turtle quilt.
Done, and delivered!  My friend sent this picture of the quilt on the bed in the room that will be for her grandchildren when they arrive...

2.  Assemble the ...

Three Quilts for Three Musketeers from Sew Preeti Quilts

The assignment was simple - Make a quilt from old baby clothes.
The tricky part - Not one, not two, but three quilts.

Getting the fabric ready for a t-shirt (or onesie) quilt is a slow, labored process.
The painful (for me) part of the whole process is cutting up perfectly nice and cute baby clothes.  It generates a lot of trash - seams, buttons, zippers and oddly shaped fabric slivers.

Aligning fabric pieces on SF101

The tedious part - interfacing each piece of salvaged fabric.  This is slow, because I cannot hurriedly iron over it. Holding the iron down in each section for ...

Coral, Blue and Orange mini quilt from Amalie's Armfuls

Let's be honest.  While I typing up this post, I have 13 scheduled posts and about 15 more pictures worth of posts I need to finish.  But, this is so far, one of the most recent quilt I have made.  I purchased the fabric for this quilt as one of my few fabric purchases at a local quilt shop in the past 4 years in Spring of 2017.  However, I didn't pull it out to work on until Oct 2017.

1st.  I have wanted to purchase new fabric for a LONG time.  However, I was determined that I ...

Valentines Day quilts #2 from Amalie's Armfuls

As I was typing up my post about my best friends Valentines quilts, I started thinking about how we both purchase fabric at the same time that year.  I purchased a couple panels, a charm pack and a couple yards of fabric for backing and binding.  My panels also sat in a pile of unfinished projects for many years.  As I was pulling out my Valentines quilts this year to decorate, I was realizing that it is one of my largest collection of quilts.  Christmas, Fall, Halloween and the 4th of July certainly compare in the sheer volume of fabrics ...

Red and White sampler quilt from Amalie's Armfuls

Back in 2015, I started following Tales of Cloth on instagram.  She is one of my favorite people to follow.  I love her English Paper piecing patterns and the things that she is constantly working on.  I had wanted to do a quilt along for a long time.  I had also wanted to do a sampler quilt for a long time to have the experience of making lots of different types of blocks.  When I saw her post on her Red night Sky quilt, I knew it was the one that I wanted to do.  My aunt had asked for ...

Do one thing every day that makes you happy from Amalie's Armfuls

Do one thing every day that makes you happy.  Ok, I did that today.  I found this pillow top after I saw it on my blog when I was searching for another post and wondered where I had put it.  I knew that I had never finished it.  When I sewed it, I didn't have a rectangular pillow form at the time.  I eventually bought the form and couldn't remember why I bought it!!! So it never got finished.  I found it in the middle of a stack of fabric.

I had to add another inch on the ...

A quilt's story from its beginning in the 1960's to its completion in 2017 from Amalie's Armfuls

When we moved into our home, we were faced with the challenge of cleaning out the rest of the house that didn't get finished before we bought the home.  My grandma's sewing room was one of those rooms.  Not only was it full of all her many years of fabric, house decor and general storage, the room had been built with 2 foot wall to wall, ceiling to floor cabinets.  They were perfect for a older couple that didn't have a need for a 3rd bedroom.  However, we were moving in with two young children and needed ...

Valentines Pillow Covers from Amalie's Armfuls

In 2010, I closesd my etsy shop.  I missed creating things for it, but I just didn't have the time with my infants and my 3 other jobs.  I loved selling fabric and really wish that I could keep up with a fabric shop, but I just can't.  I enjoy my other jobs as a ballet accompanist too much to give all the time required to build a good online shop.

So, I took some fabrics I had left over from a lot of various projects that I will post about in the next couple months, and made ...

2 yards, 1 charm pack and 5 projects later from Amalie's Armfuls

I follow a lot of quilters on Instagram these days.  I thoroughly enjoy the amazing things that they create.  One of the many things that I enjoy are the days in Jan where they post their #quiltmystash posts.  A couple years ago, I determined I couldn't make anything new for myself if I didn't finish previously purchased quilt projects first.  As a result, I cut my fabric purchases to pretty much 3 maybe 4 each year the past 3 years.  The problem is that sometimes you buy fabric that is not necessarily intended for a specific quilt.  This ...

The Kid's Sewing from Amalie's Armfuls

Over the past couple years, I have been working on teaching my kids to sew.  I purchased a small sewing machine for my daughter for her 6th birthday.  She is still learning how to use it as a basic machine, but she has had some fun with it over time. The following pictures are just a hodge podge of the pillow covers and the pajama pants they have made in the past year.

Sometime I hope to get a good video of my son using my sewing machine.  When I am teaching my kids to sew I let them run ...

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? Memories.... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Wow, can you believe it's Friday again already?  It seems like the week just flew by - partly because we've been snowed in for most of that time!  But it's time to get our whoop whoop on, so let's get started!
*&*&*&*&*&*&*

This week I was honored to make some memory pillows for a friend of mine.  Her father died last year and she wanted pillows for herself and her children, made from his shirts.

These are very simple pillow covers - the buttons on the regular shirts serve as the opening to insert the pillow.  The ...

Christmas 2017 from Amalie's Armfuls

Many years ago, I had to decide to let a few things go.  This blog was one of them.  I realized that if I wanted to have time to be a working mom and still sew that I couldn't spend time really posting.  So, I backed off and enjoyed a few years with my kids.  Does that mean that I stopped sewing?  Nope.  In fact I have sewn so many items in the past 5 years that I would have to spend a couple weeks sorting through the pictures to be able to find them all.

As I was ...

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? The First of Three... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Wow, it's already Friday again!  Time flies when you're having fun, doesn't it?  And you know what Friday means - it's time to get our whoop whoop on!!  Are you ready?  Let's get started!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

Before I share, let me give a little back history for those of you who might not be familiar with my favorite Christmas tradition.  When I started making quilts in 2009, I decided to make my one and only granddaughter a quilt for Christmas.  I made her one the next year too, and by 2011, she told me that the ...

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? I Hear Those Sleighbells Jingling... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Friday is here again - - - and that means it's time for us to get our whoop whoop on!!   It's hard to believe, but including today, there are only five Fridays left in 2017... where has the year gone?  Well, let's make December the whooping-est month of the year - starting now!

*&*&*&*&*&*&*

Earlier this week, I posted this picture on Instagram...

This is a $4.99 placemat I found at Target.  It is beautifully embroidered, and I knew as soon as I saw it that I wanted to make a pillow out of it.  When I got home ...

Make-A-List Monday - Winter Is Coming! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, fall has "done fell" here in Middle Tennessee!  We had some vicious winds, rain, and cooler weather today - I actually jumped out of my skin when a large branch came down on the roof and made a heck of a racket as it proceeded to the ground.  When I walked outside I realized that it really was fall - it smells different, have you noticed?  And that reminded me that winter (and Christmas) is just around the corner!  Time to get busy!

Here's how last week went....

1.  Finish the t-shirt quilt and deliver.
Done!  It turned ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... Pillow Cover Tutorial! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, better late than never - I didn't get my tutorial written in time to post this earlier (I actually had to make another pillow cover to take some pictures!) but it's done now!  First, though, let me share with you this week's blocks for the Gypsy Wife quilt...

This block is called Old Maid's Puzzle, and it's the last of the "named" blocks in the book.  As before, these blocks are made out of Kate Spain's Latitude batiks, and I love the colors!  The rest of the blocks are designated as "filler ...
