paint party Friday paper and fabric from Not Afraid of Color

Let's talk about paint, shall we? I did one watercolor on paper this week, but spent an amount of time painting on fabric instead. The above painting was done on a linen white fabric with textile paint.(they are acrylic with textile medium mixed in)

I used to teach painting techniques on fabric, and have quite a number of different brand paints in my supplies, so I pulled out some that looked like my pink flower series, went outside

in the wild fire smoke (three blazing out of control fires at the moment in Colorado)(people still have firepits ...

Momma’s Orchids from Pebble Creek Arts

This painting is from a photo that I took when my mom visited me several years ago in Nashville.

I started this painting in 2014 and set it aside. It was one my many works in progress that sat around the studio. I have decided that I will finish them all before I start any new paintings. I will still work on charcoal drawings in front of the television some nights with my husband, but no more new paintings until I finish all of them. 21 was the Pebble Creek painting I posted about last week. This is number 20 ...

Pebble Creek Logo from Pebble Creek Arts

I decided it was time to finally finish all of my works in progress. Many of them aren’t what I would choose to paint today. Many of them have problems with the composition. However, I started them and I should have finished them at that time. I will never learn anything if I don’t finish most of my pieces. I had 21 wip’s before I finished this one. Now I am down to 20.

I decided to work smallest to largest. It is my hope that I will make some improvements in my work before I get ...

Bella from Pebble Creek Arts

This is the first piece of art that I have created in more than a year.

My mother died on June 6, 2019. I was a wreck. My sister and I had spent over a month in the hospital with her. It was a drain on us both. I was barely holding it together during her illness, but after she died, I was broken. I thought I had an aneurysm or a stroke. My language skills were depleted. My memory was unreliable. My emotions were chaos. I didn’t feel like myself and I didn’t think I ever would ...

Watching paint dry.... mandalas flowers mermaids from Not Afraid of Color

welcome to paint party Friday... lots of color being used this week.
Painting takes me to where life is manageable...
Continuing with my circular/mandala series, I always think I will paint a simple one, then ink over it.
then I don't. This one reminded me of a landscape/sky in the circle, surrounded by water. The only ink added was Posca pen in white for little horizontal dots and the spiral bottom right.
I painted, dabbed, over-painted, dropped color on in dots, watched it all merge and spread as it dried...
The color is intense. The process for ...

Tricks And Tips For Editing Fonts In Your Silhouette Software from Nikki, In Stitches

It has been FOREVER since I’ve posted a Silhouette Software tutorial which seems so crazy to me because I literally feel like I’m in there every day working on sign layouts and mockups for clients.

I thought I’d share today some of my go-to tricks and tips for editing fonts.

This is honestly the easiest way to take your designs to the next level. Without paying for expensive fonts or additional editing software, just a few adjustments can give your layouts more visual interest, making them that much more dynamic!

In the video below, I walk you ...

Working on SAQA Auction Quilt from From Edge 2 Edge

I have been working on some smaller pieces lately and decided to make my SAQA auction quilt. I still have a little bit of work I want to do to this but for the most part I am happy with the result. I still have to block it, add a sleeve and a label.

I am thinking I might do just a touch more color work on it to add a bit more contrast in both the background areas and the foreground. I will be darkening some background so the hills are a little more defined. I will consider adding ...

Still Painting After All These Years from From Edge 2 Edge

I decided on a limited color palette for my first official pieces. I wanted something that would read 'Arizona' for a piece I have in mind. I mixed an orange, a deeper red orange and a turquoise blue. I started out lighter and added additional pigment to my mixing cups part way through. Since the paints are in a transparent base the lighter under colors will be overlapped in areas by the darker colors. Since orange and blue are compliments, I have a fourth, greyed color that works well in the piece.
I use several different tools to get my ...

Back in the Painting Saddle Again from From Edge 2 Edge

I cannot tell you how happy I am to be told by my governor that I should shelter in place. That means that I can play and I don't have to listen to that inner nag that tells me 'You have to get all your work and errands done before you can have fun creating art'. Now I can tell her to shut up, I am not allowed outside where other people are.
I haven't worked with my ProChem PROfab paints in a LONG time so I thought that I would do a couple of practice pieces and ...

Little Paintings from Pinkadot Quilts

The motivation is still on the loose and I can't seem to catch it! I was reading this morning, painting and sewing. Now I am not sure what I want to do...
Today is a beautiful spring day so a little sunshine was also in the mix while I finished my book.

I enjoy reading about history and the Gold Rush era is one of my favorites. This book bounces between now and the mid 1800's. He should have stayed in the 1880's, it was way more interesting. I found my self skipping/speed reading through the ...

All around the house from Road Home Quilting

Since today is for remembering, I want to thank our friends Bob and Linda. Linda was in our neighborhood quilt club and taught sewing to the girls at her church. She was first in the neighborhood to sew with vinyl - she made some cool school binders for Alex. Once we had a sew day and made draft guards - to keep the heat out LOL. I still have one :)

Bob was our neighborhood handyman. Here are a few pictures of all the great work Bob has done for our house.

Bob painted our living room - and did an amazing great job ...

Project Drab to Fab: Outdoor Table from in the fold

Sad looking table at my front door.

.
I needed a new top as the old one was weathered beyond fixing.
 I purchased a 30" round table top from Menard's for around $30.

Sanded the top a bit and then painted it white with acrylic outdoor paint

The rest of the paint is acrylic craft paint from Hobby Lobby.

I had a basic sketch of the design, but I found as I painted it evolved.

I was challenged by the large green leaves and how to make them look finished.

Tried several ideas for veins in the leaves,  but then ...
