Before any packing can occur, two things must happen: grocery shopping and laundry. That's how yesterday was spent. Have you ever noticed, though, that laundry is a great household chore? Now that we have these fangled things called "washing machines" (I'd call them "newfangled," except they aren't new), you can wash clothes and sew at the same time! I'm so glad I was born after the era of washboards and pounding the clothes on rocks by the river. Who's with me?

We ended up running all over town yesterday, beginning with a trip to the vet for the kitties. We were sorry to disturb Sadie from her morning slumber, but we had appointments to keep.

Does it feel as if the year hasn't really gotten off the ground yet? Sheesh...this will literally be a year for the history books. Of course, they all are. I've found myself interested in the times 100 years ago, which were so similar to where we find ourselves today. I read The Great Influenza, by John M. Barry,. It started out a little dry, discussing the state of medical schools and medical education at the time. When I got past the beginning, though, and started reading about the times and the flu itself, it was fascinating. So ...

The weather has turned terrific. It has been so nice getting outside and working in the garden. Mike mowed the field yesterday, much to the consternation of the kitties. Here, Smitty can be seen praying for an end to the noise. It scares the squirrels away, and his mission in life is thwarted.

Nearly the whole day was spent in the kitchen yesterday. Most everything is ready to go now. I baked a cheesecake, and I'll add the topping this morning. The green bean side dish is done. Also, I made crab cakes for our dinner last night. It was 2:30 before I made my way into the sewing room, and by then, I was tired.
Before I got started cooking, though, I finished up the second of three "I Believe in Snowmen" blocks.
This makes 12 altogether, with one more to work on before I move to the next project ... read more
