Counting Down to the New Year from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Some of you probably still have your Christmas decorations out. Ours are all put away, and we've moved into winter mode. On the dining room table, I've added the Icy Blues table runner.

That was a free pattern from All People Quilt.

On our breakfast bar, I added the quilt I call "Whose Woods are These."

That one was a free pattern from Patchalot Patterns.

Finally, a Scrappy Snowflake wall-hanging for the short wall between our kitchen and dining room.

And that was a free pattern from Lake Girl Quilts. So, come on, Winter ...

An Everything Day from Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'm happy to inform you that the basement is finished!!!

The guy was here yesterday and finished it off. I hope we've seen the last of him. He'll have to come back, however, since he left an unidentifiable tool behind. Mike is pretty tool savvy, but even he didn't know what it was for. I'll take you on a little video tour eventually. I considered it yesterday, but then realized that my unrevealed art quilt is hanging in plain sight. I'll hide it somehow, and then I'll take you ...

Something Different from Cat Patches

It's an early morning here, my friends. I'm getting my hair cut today, and so I'm needing to be up and around and out the door early (for me). When I woke up around 4:30 a.m., my brain went instantly into high gear thinking of all the things I need to do today...which doesn't seem like much, when you get right down to it. Nevertheless, in retirement, even small tasks can make the day seem busy, especially when leaving the house is involved. So...here we are.

Oceanside Pier from Cat Patches

The day started out quietly enough. We had a lunch date set with our friends Deb and Tom, but there was some time to sew in the morning. My first task was to fix these new N95 masks we purchased. And let me just say I'm glad I haven't put any more effort into making cloth masks. Now we're into these seriously ugly masks...NIOSH approved for extra, extra, extra germ resistance. And that's all fine and dandy, but apparently, the really badass masks all have the elastic that goes around the head. And, I don ...

Hat Trick from Cat Patches

It was a busy day yesterday with lots of running around. Everything feels so hustle-bustle this time of year, even when I'm operating on a good night's sleep. Yesterday, I was operating on only half a good night's sleep, and so my patience was half what it might have been...skimpy, even on a good day. The pedicure was nice, but then there was the grocery store which put a huge dent in my zen of the moment. But, oh well, now it's done, and I can stay home until Tuesday...unless we have to pick ...

Bricks and Bones from Cat Patches

Hallelujah! Mike’s procedure-that-shall-not-be-named was a huge success yesterday. I’m trying hard not to use words that can be turned into some kind of wisecrack, but it isn’t easy. Smitty is looking out at our horizon, and things are definitely looking up.

He’s been taking extra shifts on the medicinal cat front. Yesterday, he negotiated with Sadie for her to take the furrst shift. A guy needs some time off, especially in these COVID times. We have to take care of our healthcare workers, don’t you know.

So, yesterday’s slow stitching was me trying to ...

Autumn Landscape from ... Cat Patches

As I came upstairs to write this post, I noticed the moody sunrise sky.

The sky looked like this yesterday morning as the sun came up. Eventually, the clouds burned off, and we had a nice sunny day. It was a little on the chilly side until around noon. I had in mind to do some yard work, but I wanted to wait for it to warm up a little.

The day started with a Halloween mask using these two fabrics:

Sadie was glad I'd seen the light...or maybe I'd seen the dark. It's hard to ...

Low Energy from ... Cat Patches

It's surprising how one outing away from the house saps my energy for most everything else during the day. I'll admit I've spent an inordinate amount of time over the past 24 hours trying to figure out what I could bake with the new brown sugar substitute I found. So far, I haven't come up with anything that was diet-friendly, but I'm still searching.

There was time for some slow-stitching when I got home, and my piece is moving along. The only other sewing I did yesterday was to make four new masks. Of course ...

Maskmaker, Maskmaker, Make Me a Mask from Cat Patches

Okay, so you have to be super old to get that title. It's my adaption of a song from Fiddler on the Roof. Please tell me you remember that. And if you're prone to ear worms, as I am, then you'll have one now. You're welcome.

So anyway...masks took up most of my day here at the Three Cats Ranch yesterday. First though, I made another 4 pints of zucchini relish. That's probably all the zucchini relish I'll do this year. I have some other ideas for the zucchini harvest to come.

Time Traveling, and a Winner! from ... Cat Patches

My sincere appreciation goes to all of you who stopped by and left comments, emailed, or in some other way expressed your thoughts and good wishes for my 10th Blogiversary. It's been wonderful hearing from so many of you who don't ordinarily comment. I know you're out there lurking because I'm something of a lurker myself, but it's been nice to get a bit of a head count. And to those of you who write every day...thank you for your friendship. You've all been so sweet with your kind words.
