Picture Frame Molding Gallery Wall (Inspiration, Tools, and Preparation) from Nikki, In Stitches

Two summers ago, before life seemed to come to a screeching halt and COVID shrank our world down to whatever we could fit inside our four walls, my husband and I took our little family to England for what ended up being the most amazing eight days of our lives.

Of all the pictures we took on the trip, the image above always seems to rise to the top of my list of favorites.

My husband and my children, my whole world…looking like they have Hampton Court Palace all to themselves. Ha!

Of all the places we traveled to ...

New Home… New Projects from Nikki, In Stitches

Moving (hopefully one last time) was always a possibility for us, but it had to be the perfect scenario: a little more house, in the same school district, in a neighborhood just as friendly as the one we would be leaving.

  • A little more house because let’s be honest, going in and out of lockdown the last 18 months has everyone wanting a little more space, right?
  • In the same school district because my kids love it here, but honestly…I love my town even more than they do. I can’t imagine calling any other place home.
  • And ...

Lost In Design…And Loving It from Nikki, In Stitches

I’ve completely lost myself in my current design.

I don’t mean like lost my sense of style, or lost my motivation, or even lost track of what direction I wanted to take this piece.

I mean like I literally lost myself.

I’ve been in my studio for hours on end, draping, drafting, and editing on repeat.

I am a complete mess, in every sense of the word.

My studio is covered in discarded pattern pieces, scraps of fabric, and candy wrappers (yes, I’ve also stopped really eating anything throughout the day except Hershey’s miniatures.)

I ...

Snow Day Painting from Nikki, In Stitches

Large Silhouette Stencils With Registration Marks

I had some time to myself yesterday while the kids were outside sledding in the snow and felt inspired to do a little painting.

Actually, the truth is, I started this months ago for my youngest and was feeling more than a little guilty that it still wasn’t finished.

I made one for my oldest over the summer and they’re meant to be a set, since they share a room.

We’re a hockey family over here…can you tell?

There’s a video below for those of you that ask about ...

The Many Tales of My Life, In Stitches from Nikki, In Stitches

The Many Tales of My Life, In Stitches

Anyone else out there tired of hearing the word pivot?

As a creative, pivot is something we do on a regular basis. It’s almost natural to us. Something we can expect to be a part of our story.

Whether we’ve changed our chosen medium (which as creatives is also completely normal), needed to realign what we do in order to make a better living (again, a typical plot twist for makers), or felt the burnout of working so hard for so long and just needed some space to find clarity and remember why we love this path we ...

Bedroom Renovation – Anthropologie style from Nikki, In Stitches

My bedroom renovation has taken much longer than expected, but to be honest it doesn’t bother me. (Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for my husband.)

Some people can style a room in just a few days, start to finish, but it’s not that easy for me.

I like to live in the space and slowly hunt down exactly what I’m looking for, or find a way to make it myself.

And this is the truth…it’s not just an excuse for why I still don’t have anything on the walls.

I did the ...
