I found it............... from Exuberant Color

I knew where I had last seen the bag with the Mylar circle and some centers tried on a previous quilt but I didn't dig down far enough until yesterday and there it was.

What I didn't remember is that the circles had already been gathered and were ready to be appliqued.

I tried them on the wallhanging and they match well enough with the daisy colors.  This would be the easy way out to just use them.  The fabric is purple cotton woven one direction and gold metallic woven in the other direction.

Close up view.  No ...

20 more blocks........... from Exuberant Color

I made 20 more blocks and added them to the design wall.  If I finished it right now it would be about 41" x 53", what I would consider a lap quilt, not even big enough to be called a throw quilt.  If I add one more row to the width and 2 rows to the length I will need to move the daisy blocks to a more balanced arrangement.

How did I get to this point on this quilt?  I started making Kaffe fabric rectangle blocks to have some soothing no-brainer sewing to do each day for my therapy ...

Still playing............. from Exuberant Color

I decided to try some more of the daisy blocks since I had several left over.  This is the 3 darkest ones.

Here are 2 of the light ones an a medium one.

I think maybe these 3 look the best together.  I have some more light ones with yellow in them but I don't think they will work.  I sewed the last 12 rectangles blocks so now I have 40 different blocks.  I will make a second one of each combination next.

The remnants of the tropical storm came through around 2 yesterday afternoon but most of it ...

A bit of sewing.......... from Exuberant Color

Somehow 2 of the mug rug squares got separated from the other 2 and I finished them into mug rugs a while ago.  Yesterday I found the other 2 and when I went to trim them square they were 1/4" smaller than the 2 finished ones so now there are 2 pairs, not a set of 4 alike.  That's all the sewing I did yesterday.
It was still low humidity yesterday so I wanted to work outside for awhile.  It got up to the mid 80s so it still wasn't all that comfortable.  While I was out ...

Sewing, mowing, baking........ from Exuberant Color

I have seen these blocks on other blogs turned both directions.  Here the blocks are horizontal (longest edge horizontal).

In this photo the blocks are vertical (longest edge vertical).  I'm not sure if one way is more pleasing or soothing than the other.  In this orientation any one way prints would look better.

The humidity dropped dramatically yesterday but it was still plenty warm for mowing the grass.  I got it done though.

My Red Penstemon is just starting to bloom.  There is a Milkweed plant behind it and several others in this garden.  I saw a Monarch butterfly ...

Miscellany........ from Exuberant Color

I had purchased some dish cloth yarn that had sections of the scrubby yarn in it and knitted 2 dishcloths with it.  Then I saw the Scrubby all by itself and bought one ball.  I really can't say this was any fun at all to knit.....and I have enough yarn to make another one.
I have 80 sets of 2" strips sewn together and it will probably be enough for 2 small quilts.  I have seen this block pattern on several blogs and decided to cut pieces and start on this one while I work on my other ...

Sewing....... from Exuberant Color

Taking a break for sorting and organizing I sewed 80 pairs of Kaffe 2" strips together.  The ones on the left are waiting to be pressed.  I hope my idea works out that I have planned for these.

The palest pink peonies are blooming now so I cut three of them for my windowsill bouquet.  I need to go out tomorrow and cut a new bouquet for my large vase.

Taking care of things.......... from Exuberant Color

I used to have a book "Clutter's Last Stand".  In it the author gave a good reason for clearing out unneeded stuff.  He said if you own it, you have to take care of it.  That's what I did yesterday.  Took care of stuff.  It was 92 degrees and humid so I stayed inside.

In the photo is the remaining Spiderwort.  I pull out bunches of it every year.  I think it is pretty but it dies down mid-season and looks terrible in the flower bed.

I got in closer to the pink Columbine and realized they are ...

Mother Nature is calling me outdoors.......... from Exuberant Color

With this beautiful view how could I stay inside?  The weather yesterday was perfect for working outside whereas today is going to be the hottest day so far this year.  I'll be in the basement today.
More peonies are blooming and with the heat and humidity today I expect to see a lot more opening.

I love this one with the shaggy yellow center.  It doesn't last long in a bouquet so I visit the plant.

This is what I see as I go out the side garage door and walk toward the back yard.  This is the ...

May 2020 monthly recap.............. from Exuberant Color

I was very happy to finish 2 quilts in May.  The Framed 9 Patch on the left is 59" x 74" and was started in June last year and sewn into a top in April this year.  Party Lanterns is 74" x 95"  and has been waiting since April 2014 to be quilted.

Both tops sewn together in May were 16 patches, one of my favorite patterns.  I love the look of checkerboard.  Jewel is 56" x 71.5" and is all batiks.  African 16 patch is all African fabrics and Kona cotton solids and is 64.5" x 80 ...

Second finish for May 2020............. from Exuberant Color

I have several diagonal stripe fabrics in my stash so I decided to look for one that would look good with the chicken print backing.  Anything would go with the multicolor front of the quilt.

I think it looks pretty good.

It ended up 59" x 74", a nice large throw quilt.

Just one fabric on the back of this one.

I mowed the grass and filled the bird feeders.  Then I snipped 2 peonies for a little bouquet.  They are back lit here so the dark one isn't that deep of a tone.

These 2 Dianthus plants are ...

The great outdoors........... from Exuberant Color

All it took was a string of overly warm and humid days for the first peonies to open.

These aren't the prettiest of my many varieties but are always guaranteed to be the first to open.

The Korean lilacs are later bloomers than most and these are right outside of my bedroom window, so fragrant.  Even though they look white they are a very pale grayed lavender.

My Bleeding Hearts are at that end of the backyard and the plant is in full bloom now.

There were only a few flowers on this stem.

These are on the lot ...

Finishing day............. from Exuberant Color

Since it was hot and humid I decided to work in the cool basement.  First I finished this 16 patch quilt top and pressed it and did the staystitching around the perimeter.  It is 56" x 71.5", all batik fabrics.

Then I chose a binding fabric for the one I just quilted and got the strips cut and sewn end to end.

I was on a roll so why not finish it too.  I think the binding fabric looks great with both the front and back.

I finished it about 10 p.m. but decided to wait until today ...

Quilting at last.......... from Exuberant Color

This quilt was loaded on the longarm for a whole week before I finally got down there and quilted it.  I thought the straight lines were appropriate for this one.  I have 2 fabrics on the back.  You can see one on the roller above the quilt and the other at the bottom edge.  I think binding will be a black and white print and will be done all by machine.
Summer is here, hot and humid for several days.  I could tell how humid it was when I came up the basement stairs.

I never know whether to call ...

A little sewing, reading and weeding......... from Exuberant Color

We only got a couple very short rainy periods yesterday so I got out twice to pull or dig weeds.  I did start sewing the jewel tone 16 patch together but spent more time reading than sewing.  I'm at the end of a book and it is hard to put it down.
Another variety of hardy geranium is starting to bloom.  A few star flowers are in there too.

The white flowers start out with bright green grassy areas and when the grass starts to die down the flowers bloom.  As much of a spreading nuisance as it is ...

Another layout.......... from Exuberant Color

I added some of the darkest yellows back in and sewed the new blocks (fabrics shown yesterday) so there was a little more orange.  7 x 9 is the layout I had planned, 56" x 72".  I have enough leftover blocks to make it 7 x 10 but am not sure I will add them.  I see I have one block turned sideways (top row, 4th from the left).
I did some weeding, filled the bird feeders and bird bath and then took some photos.  I rarely find 2 Jack-in-the-Pulpit flowers so close to each other.  They are surrounded by ...

Playing with jewels....... from Exuberant Color

I haven't pressed my jewel 16 patch blocks yet but decided to take one of each and put them on the design wall.  Here they are loosely grouped by color.

Then while I was watching "who wants to be a millionaire" I added some of the duplicate blocks and mixed up the colors.

Then I removed the lighter yellows and added more duplicate blocks.  The difference between this photo and what I see when I am in the room with this is all of the wonderful texture created by the designs in the fabrics.  You lose that totally in ...

More jewel tone blocks............. from Exuberant Color

18 new blocks add to the stack of jewel tone 16 patch blocks.  There are 10 more to sew later today.

I know you think I sew on a pristine clean sewing cabinet.  Here is the real truth, a notebook with my lists of quilts awaiting quilting, blocks finished the last 2 days, a tub of yellow, black and white batiks for more crazy pieced blocks, 2 Kaffe books for research, a couple new masks and a pile of pieces for more of them, a few yards of elastic.  I can only dream of a totally clean surface.  It doesn ...

Playing with Projects and a Flimsy from Indigo Threads

Well, I finally have a "first finish"!  This quilt top is now a flimsy. This is the Rail Fence pattern from Sujata Shah's book "Cultural Fusion Quilts".

Rail Fence quilt
56 inches square
I started this quilt way back in April of 2016.   You can read about it here.  This project got put on the back burner a few times since 2016, but I finally decided it's time was now and got it put together.  The i-sew-lation is at least good for getting some projects done.  I am very happy to get it to this stage.

Prepping and planting.......... from Exuberant Color

I had a burst of energy yesterday and got some things accomplished.  I pressed all of the stratas for the batik 16 patch blocks and the 2 backing pieces for this quilt.  Then I sewed the 2 backing lengths together and loaded them on the longarm frame.  I cut the batting and put it on there and then just laid the top on there.  I'm hoping for another good day today.
I dug holes and then got down on my hands and knees and planted 6 tomato plants along my driveway.  They have done well there the last 2 ...
