What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

Finally we are off on a caravan trip - the weekend was spent with our caravan club buddies, not too far away at Betts Farm.  Our previous caravan club rally had been cancelled due to Covid lockdown, as had our planned 3 week trip north.  So there was plenty of news to catch up with our caravan buddies.  The night ended with a lovely sunset, always so nice to see the gorgeous colours in the sky.

 This morning Patrick was off to his golf tournament. I was going to enjoy the day to myself. I had a hard time trying to decide if I wanted to work on my beading or go downstairs. I know I need to get more tops done, so I headed downstairs. 

I was tired of seeing this on the wall. I decided to go down and get to work on it. 

Of course there are those days when things go wrong. At least this was the only thing that went wrong so far! I sewed the two square together twice. So ...

So what have I been doing lately?  Cutting some strips to work on my RSC Cobblestone blocks.   Blue is the nominated colour this month so I dug into my bag of batiks to see what I could find.   I do my cutting out on top of the chest freezer, which is just the right height for this job.  But like most jobs these days I have to pace myself so that I don’t affect the muscles on my back.  Just a little at a time and I get there.

Frank Klein has emerged as a major collector of contemporary art quilts, and I’m delighted to say he has several of my quilts. There is an exhibit on now at the Texas Quilt Museum that includes my Milkweed. Even better, I love that one of my friend Deborah Boschert’s quilts is also in the exhibit, and we “bookend” one of the images. Here is a video for those who, like me, won’t have the pleasure of visiting in person.

This morning we were out the door by 4:15 am. We all piled into the van and headed to UW Cancer Care Alliance. Patrick arrived at the hospital for his check in. We couldn't go in. Family and friends are not allowed due to Corona Virus. We all hugged him and wished him well. I walked him to the door and then turned back to the van. 

Katt, Susan and I headed to breakfast. The plan was to stay in the area to make sure he was okay during and after surgery. We headed to the closest I-Hop ...

We are away on another trip (lucky us), the weather was good and the car and caravan just hummed along.  We had our  favourite radio station belting out all the songs from the 50s, 60s and 70s “songs that you know and love”, as the adverts say, rather like spending time with good friends, as we hummed along.  Gemma came too, of course, and she is quite good on car rides, she usually spends her time beside me, leaning on the consul with her head facing backwards as we drive along.  Rather like an ostrich with her head in the ...

 This morning I needed to get moving. The Veterans Memorial Museum was having a Parade at the museum. So, I needed to get to the museum before the traffic arrived. - OR so I thought!

Arrived early - about 10:30 am and enjoyed the time with my group. We were wearing masks today because of all the traffic. We ended up using the room upstairs which helped keep us away from the visitors to the museum.

We have been away up in Takapau in the Hawkes Bay celebrating our Caravan Club’s 600th Rally.  Robin and I were Rally Captains for this rally, so were in charge of organising the activities.  And of course we had to order a 600th Rally Cake to share with all the members.

This morning I was up and out the door. I stopped at Starbucks to get some tea and some yogurt with fruit. Then it was off to the museum.

I arrived to find Greg there. I was expecting Sam, but she didn't make it. I had my mask with me. I ware it half the time. When no one was there, I took it off. I also worked on my embroidery.

The Maryland Historical Society has been running a year-long exhibit of Mimi Dietrich’s quilts. It is coming to an end mid-March. If you are in the area, I highly recommend going. Three antique Baltimore Album quilts are also included in the exhibit.
