Scrappy Celebration QAL from Moda Lissa

Time flies! I can’t believe it has been 10 years since I did a quilt-along with American Patchwork and Quilting for their 20th anniversary.
Fast forward to their 30th anniversary and I am honored and proud
to be featured….on the cover…
APQ April 2023 Cover

I am a newbie to using the quilt design software, Electric Quilt. To play with this I started adding a variety of nine patches, four patches and any similar block. I fell in love with the mathematic look of the quilt and knew I just had to make it.

Quilt pattern with star blocks from Pieced Brain

Quilt pattern with star blocks

This quilt pattern with star blocks will brighten your home or make a friend happy! Choose your favorite fabrics and get sewing!

Photo by American Quilter. Used with permission.

I love everything about my latest quilt called Market Star: the fabrics I chose, the borders, the whole design. The geometric lines are complemented by the floral and dots prints and lend a modern vibe to the quilt. Change the palette for a traditional piece that will add happiness to any decor.

Market Star measures 72″ x 72″, and the blocks finish at 9″ and 12″. It is perfect as a ...

A June Progress Report from Sew........This Is My Blog

I've gotten sidetracked by a few things, but my June goal is slowly getting there.  I was nearly finished appliqueing some blue star blocks when I decided to make it my June goal to turn them into a donation quilt.  I started making nine-patches for the alternate blocks, but got tired of that, so I ended up making a second kind, too.   Then somewhere along the way I realized I was using two different shades of gray.  It's a scrappy quilt, though, right?

The blocks look good together .....

..... and I was able to pull the perfect backing fabric ...

Riding the Rails - a new published pattern from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

I'm way behind on posting including another big announcement.
I've got another new pattern published. It's in the newly released Rolling Along from Moda Bake Shop and Martingale Publishing.
The designers have been/are hosting giveaways to share the news of this great new book. Due to my hectic schedule during Girl Scout cookie season (which is now, thankfully, done for this year), I've missed sharing the news (so sorry), but you can still enter Jen Daly's giveaway on Instagram at @jendalyquilts which ends tomorrow, June 10th.

I'll be posting my giveaway on IG ...

Heartfelt Quilt Along - Darling Block from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

Last weekend we got out of Dodge for a couple of days and headed to Ocean City, NJ. It was a much needed mini break.  It was a little chilly and really windy on Easter Sunday but we still took a stroll along the beach.  We didn't write this in the sand but we did use it for a photo op.
Before we headed out, I was able to get the next set of blocks completed for the Heartfelt Quilt Along, hosted by the Fat Quarter Shop.  This is the Darling block.

For this quilt along, I've been ...

Heartfelt Quilt Along - Buttercup Block from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

After completing the first month's blocks for the Heartfelt QAL, I was looking forward to putting fabrics together to make the Buttercup blocks for March.

These are the fabrics I ended up choosing for this month.

The construction was simple and before long the first 3 were done.
The last 2 were then completed quickly.
March's Buttercup blocks definitely sing of spring.
I put the Beloved and Buttercup blocks together and I'm really happy with what I see so far.
I'm all ready for April.  How are you coming along with this quilt along?  If you ...

Heartfelt Quilt Along - Beloved Block from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

When I saw the initial announcement about Fat Quarter Shop's Heartfelt Quilt Along last fall, I was immediately tempted. I've been very good in recent years at resisting these kids of temptations as I already have more than enough projects on my To Make List that I really want to create some day, but this one kept calling to me.

Then last month, after seeing a few of the blocks other quilters were making, I relented, paid my $50 donation and set to figure out what fabrics I want to use.
This quilt would be beautiful in so ...

Sneak Peak! from Crayon Box Quilt Studio

Today I'm sharing a little sneak peak of the quilt I made for the upcoming book "Did Someone Say Cake?" being released next month and available at Shop Martingale.

These are the gorgeous fabrics I used. The batik colors are so rich and vibrant and the prints are the perfect scale, in my opinion.

The fabric line is Malibu Batiks and it's currently available from a huge number of quilt shops, but don't wait to get your stash. I expect it will sell out quickly.
Here's the last sneak peak I can share until the book ...

Oh Scrap QAL- Sashing and nine patches from Moda Lissa

hello, Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving break. I so enjoyed the break and can never have enough food or family time. Not all my crew was able to come home but we did have a houseful.

I re-arranged my sewing room and did some SECRET SEWING and vegged on the couch some, so it was a productive break.

The countdown to Christmas has begun both at home and at work. At work we are working on getting the rest of Holiday 2022 out to our salesteam. They will be making their rounds showing stores fabric lines shipping info next ...

Vintage Jenny | Easy Nine Patch from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

Talk about a classic! Not only is the Nine Patch a quintessential quilter’s block, but this is one of the very first tutorials that Jenny Doan ever filmed! This incredibly simple but versatile block comes together in a stitch using 2.5″ strips of precut quilting fabric (Jelly Rolls) and some basic strip piecing. Using alternating color ways from your available strips, you’ll create a “strip set” using three strips of fabric. All that’s required after that is to cut the long strip sets into 2.5″ strips and stitch the fabrics back together to form nine ...

Surrounded QAL- Blocks from Moda Lissa

I have had so much fun sewing with you on this QAL.   I have enjoyed the pictures you have shared and so proud of those of you that have already completed your quilt top. Kuddos to you!!

This stack of completed quilt blocks looks like a hot mess but will turn into a wonderful keepsake. What is your favorite part of the quilt making process? I love picking out the fabrics, planning what the project is going to be and making a test block. Then I am very inpatient after that. I just can’t wait to  see each part ...

Surrounded QAL-Week 4- Center Blocks from Moda Lissa

I sew any chance I get. I quite often get up early so I can sew a little before work or stay up late to work on any project I am obsessed by. To be able to work on items in short little burst of time, I have a few processes to help keep me on task. Today I am going to share how I pieced the center section of the block together. The is somewhat a mindless, therapeutic method that lets me stop and start without loosing my place.

I shared with you that the main focus fabrics for ...

Surrounded QAL- Week 3- 9-patches from Moda Lissa

How did you do on your four patches? Did you get them all done? I know it is a crazy time of year to try and tackle one more project, right? Just do what you can each week.

What is a 9-Patch?
9 squares joined together to make one block or section of a block.

For this quilt, we will be making
2 different sizes
and
styles of 9- patches.

This week is a simple basic 9-patch where all the squares are the same size. Next week will be a combination of different sizes.

If you have time and want ...
