Make-a-List Monday - Are We Having Fun Yet? from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Are we really more than halfway through September?  How did that happen?  So much to do, and the time goes so fast!  But it's all good, isn't it? I've got lots on my plate, so let's see how last week's list went....

1.  Sandwich the remaining four memory quilt tops.
Done!  Here are the two that still need to be quilted...

2.  Quilt at least two of those tops.
Done!  I quilted these three...

3.  Help with a major clean-up and re-organization in the quilt room at church.
Done!  There's always a ...

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? Triplets! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Friday is finally here, and can you believe that September is almost half over?  Time always flies so fast as fall arrives - but there's always time to get our whoop whoop on, isn't there?  So let's get started!

Today I have a long-awaited finish...

(And if you follow me on Instagram you'll think you've seen this a lot, but it's really just three of a kind...)

These three memory quilts were made from patches cut from men's denim shirts, alternated with patches of Kona Snow.

Three different backings, because you ...

Make-A-List Monday - Enjoying a Taste of Fall! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It's beginning to feel a lot like fall around here - it didn't hit 70 degrees until after 1 pm today, AND pumpkin spice lattes are back at Starbucks!  Our temperatures are expected to go back up later this week, but PSLs will still be here, so it's all good.  I'm keeping an eye on the weather on the east coast, as I'm sure many of you are too - I have lots of family over there that may be affected by the storm.  If you're in the path, stay safe, and evacuate if ...

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? Some Fall Fun... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

This week has just flown by (kind of like the leaves I am starting to see fluttering by my windows) and that means, because it's Friday, it's time for us to get our whoop whoop on!!  Are you ready?  Let's get started!

Let's start with the quilt-y finish first, shall we?  I have to say, it's really nice to have an honest-to-gosh finish again!

This week I quilted the first of the memory tops!  This one is made from golf shirts. As you can see in the picture below, the logos from the ...

Make-A-List Monday - No Rest For The Wicked! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

I hope you have all had a happy and safe Labor Day weekend!  It's been fun around here, lots of time spent with my hubby (two movies!) and started a new tradition this morning with the 1st Annual Labor Day Big Breakfast!  We had all the kids (big and little) over early and made waffles, biscuits, sausage gravy, scrapple, bacon, and of course, eggs.  We ate until we were wallowing and then went outside and the adults sat on the deck while the kids ran around in the yard.  A great time was had by all!  But ...

Can I Get A Whoop Whoop? Small Victories... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Friday is upon us once again, and a holiday weekend, too!  I hope all of you have wonderful, fun plans for the weekend to celebrate the end of summer and beginning of fall (please send that cooler weather soon!) but first, let's get our whoop whoop on, shall we?

It's been a busy week, and I've made lots of progress on projects...

The last of the memory quilt tops went from this pile of blocks... this finished top!  And Lilli's annual quilt went from one small corner... a whole lot more!  This ...

Make-A-List Monday - The Dog Days of August are Here! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Summer has returned to middle Tennessee with a vengeance, but that's good, because it makes it easier to stay inside and sew!  I kind of miss the pretty fall-like weather we had for a bit last week, though - it's nice to know it will be coming back soon.  In the meantime, though, I'll be trying to barrel through some of the projects on my plate.  With that in mind, let's see how last week's list went...

1.  Assemble the t-shirt quilt top.
Done!  I'm so happy with the way the Tiger Lily ...

LSU Memories ~~ a finish! from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

A finish! Wait, a quilt finish! I've actually finished a quilt. This one is a memory quilt made of tee shirts from LSU. Purple and gold again!

This quilt is to be a gift. A former client returned to request that I make another. I guess I couldn't resist that compliment because I happily took the job.

I can't seem to just do the easy thing. I have to try something different every time I make a quilt. With this one, I decided to give color blocking a run. Some of the tees had designs on both ...

Can I Get a Whoop Whoop? Easin' on Down The Road... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Wow, has it been week!  But it's finally Friday, and that means it's time to get our whoop whoop on!  I'm excited to have some things to share this week, so let's get started...

If you'll remember, last week I didn't have much to show because I had been painting.  Well, I painted some more this week, and I learned a valuable lesson while doing so.  My first attempt at chalk painting yielded this...

I wasn't very happy with the way it finished, and sent this pic to my daughter (who ...

Can I Get a Whoop Whoop? We Interrupt Our Regular Programming... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

The week has just flown by, and Friday is finally here - and you know what that means!  It's time for us to get our whoop whoop on!  I hope you've had a whoop-worthy week - let's get started!

I've had a busy week, working on a series of new commission memory quilts.  This one is being made from golf shirts...

...and I'm in the process of deconstructing a whole lot of other shirts for more quilts.  Fun fun fun!!

But this week, I also interrupted my regular programming, so to speak, and did a ...

The April Project – Part One from Quilty Therapy

Spring should be in the air, instead there is a prediction of snow for Indianapolis on April 1st.  It’s not an April Fool’s Day prank.  Seems to be unfortunate.   It’s also a good time to write and share what is coming up on the blog.  Also my main machine is spending some time at the […]

Another Memory Quilt ~~ finished! from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Memory quilts seem to be the most requested commissions I get. I'm a little tired of them, but this particular quilt is really special because I've done work for this mom before. She brought this one to me in the fall, so I pushed it back a few times to get other quilts done.

This little family has seen a few changes: mom got remarried and had a baby. An older brother started college. Another is graduating in May. And somewhere between this graduate and the baby, there's another boy. So mom was not shy about ...

Memory Tee-shirt Top ~~ Finished! from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Last week I told you that Richard gave me a hand cutting tee shirts for a memory quilt for a client who had purchased one for her older son a couple of years ago. That help really paid of: I was able to begin sewing blocks together and got a couple of strips made, although they were far from working together. But I have to start somewhere.

I made a few more seams yesterday and got this far with the top. One of my problems was that I had way too many shirts. So I spent some time trying to ...

Not getting very far from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

I started a new memory quilt with tee shirts from a former client. She came to me a couple of years ago and liked her oldest son's quilt so much that she contacted me again. Honestly, if it weren't that she's such a sweet little momma, I'd have declined.

How can I possibly say no to someone who opens the conversation with, "We love the quilt so much that we want another for the second son"? Wait, you like it that much?

Well anyway, these shirts are boys' athletic shirts, which are really difficult to work ...

Harley Davidson ~~ finish! from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

The Harley Davidson memory quilt is complete! Binding and label done and dusted! The only thing left to do is to deliver it to the client. There were 30 or so tee shirts in the container, and I tried to use at least a small part from all of them. On many both the front and back had nice designs, so I sewed them together and created one panel. It was helpful in creating the puzzle design that the couple wanted.

We were barbecuing on Monday when I finished the binding, so I  asked a couple of the kids to ...

Harley Davidson Memory Quilt ~~ Quilting Finish from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

And so the Harley Davidson memory quilt is quilted. I still need to sew on the binding, but if all goes well, that will happen tomorrow. I was thinking that I’d use the charcoal Kona for binding, but tonight I’m thinking that a black Kona would be a better idea. Harley Davidson colors are orange and black but I like the frame of a black binding.

I took these pictures very quickly after I pulled the quilt off the long-arm and trimmed the rough edges off. So typical of the way I do things, I misjudged the amount ...

Harley Davidson memories ~~ finished top from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

I've been working on this customer quilt top for several days now. The customer's husband must have been a Harley Davidson fan for quite some time now. His HD tee shirts come from all over the United States.

I haven't counted the number of shirts that I used in the quilt, but it's quite a few. Some of the shirts have interesting fronts and backs, so I tried to keep those together, but I didn't worry about which side I attached on top. It was enough to keep them together.

Since my customer wanted me ...

3 Memory Cross Quilts and 9 Memory Pillows... from ~ CowgirlQuilter ~

This morning I thought I would show you a few quilts that I pieced and quilted for a lady before Christmas.
Her husband had passed away and she asked me to make 3 of these Cross Memory Quilts from his shirts for her and their 2 sons for Christmas.
Here is a pic of the 2nd one.  Somehow I didn't get a pic of the 3rd one but it looks just like these two.
Here is a photo of the back of them.  All 3 of them were quilted with this same design.  The panto is called, Spindle.  I ...

Memory Quilts from Dad’s Shirts: A Year in Review from The Carpenter's Daughter Who Quilts

Hi, I am  very close to having a year’s time involved in my memory quilt project. I started it after Thanksgiving last year. Our Dad passed away in March of 2016. He was a Farmer and a Crop Consultant. He had a vast wardrobe of plaid shirts and chambray and denim work shirts. This project originally started with me just wanting to make a quilt for my husband and maybe my kids. I never imagined how far a collection of 30 plaid shirts and 5 to 7 denim shirts would take me. I have put my entire heart and ...

Derrick's Memories ~~ refinished from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

You know how the customer's always right? I was raised on a farm that sold vegetables at the local farmers' market. Daddy never argued with a customer. If someone wanted to return something a week later, he took it back and agreed to either replace the item or return the money. Even when the customer was wrong, the customer was right.

It's a good thing that I learned his lesson. A recent customer asked for a custom quilted memory quilt. I specialize in creating interactive or three-dimensional quilts, so I assumed that is what she wanted. When I ...
