Baton Rouge MQG August meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

It's already been over a week since the Baton Rouge MQG met! I don't know what happened to the rest of last week, but it surely sped right by. What didn't speed by was that darn BR traffic! I'm still in shock. It has to be bad when the on-ramp is clogged and that ramp is a mile away from the bouncy I-10 bridge. Read about that here. But no more whining about the trip. Let's enjoy the show part of show-and-tell.

Can you believe the talent? In addition to all of this eye candy ...

Cotton Quilters' August Meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Monday was one of those wild ride days of two guild meetings. I wrote (here) about sitting on that I-10 bridge waiting to get to the Dalrumple exit, while the bridge bounces and some guy zooms past everyone just to jump ahead of the line. I was a little annoyed.

Guild challenge blocks - ten so far!
Anyway, the Cotton Quilters' meeting went really well. We're gearing up for our show which is next month. Most of the meeting covered the plans in the works for that but, as you can see, we had a great show and tell. Our ...

GSQA Meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

GSQA Opportunity Quilt
This lucky gal has been doing so many quilty things lately! I don't know how July became the quilt travel month for me, but wow! I'm having fun. Of course, I'll have to settle down and get busy with our quilt show, which is on Sept. 28th. In other words, the heavy lifting is about to begin.

This travel was to attend the GSQA meeting in Brandon, Mississippi, with Lori, a friend who is about to become the new GSQA president. Her term begins in January.

Detail of opportunity quilt
I was a little ...

Cotton Quilters' Guild May meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

While I didn't get to the Baton Rouge Modern Quilt Guild meeting yesterday, I managed to get to the guild meeting in Cottonport. It wore me out, but I had so much fun!

Three of Irma's blocks

Mary C's blocks
We started the meeting in our usual way, but there were lots of laughs, and I took a little ribbing about my recent surgery and my derrière. Somehow we got past all that nonsense and talked about important things, like quilts and our upcoming show.

Pam's blocks
Of course, we've been continuing our guild sampler ...

Cotton Quilters' Sewing Room Tour from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

A quick collage of some quilts, tops and blocks, plus
one pic from the visit to my studio.
It would be difficult to have a better sewing day! That's because today we (the Cotton Quilters) toured five sewing spaces. The tour was a huge success! We all had fun. Twenty-two of us showed up and took off for Evergreen, on time. First, my studio which impressed. Rich told me to hand everyone a dust cloth as they walked in, but I served coffee instead.

One piece of furniture at Cleo's that
might go on Rich's project list ...

Cotton Quilters' Guild March Meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Today the Cotton Quilters had our March meeting, at which I made a happy announcement: I'm the newest Gulf States Quilting Association (GSQA) circuit teacher! So there's that good news.

But we also had a fabulous meeting. We took care of business then moved on to fun. First up, the March blocks for our guild sampler BOM.

Irma with one block and Sandra with two.

We shared finished January and February blocks.
Ginny with her February blocks and
Mary with her January blocks

Maggie and Mary with their February blocks

Pam shared her Jelly Roll Rug tutorial.

And ...

Cotton Quilters Guild February Meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

On Monday last the Cotton Quilters met at our usual time and place for a very unusual surprise. I had my friend and fellow-blogger from Quilts and Dogs blog visit with us and present her fabric exploration theory. Wow! She's awesome.

She has played with fabric more than anyone I've ever met. I can't remember all the ways she colors and works with fabric. Let's see--dyeing, discoloring, discharging, bleach, rusting and using natural materials, such as flowers, fruit and veggies, wood and mud. She also showed some of her quilts.

We easily spent an hour ohh-ing ...

Great start for 2019 from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

for the Cotton Quilter's Guild, anyway! We had our first meeting of 2019 on Monday and started out right. For this meeting I asked (and reminded) everyone to bring in her favorite tool--only one or two. It was a rousing success!

Not everyone felt comfortable talking in front of the audience, which turned out to be a good thing since I was rushing to wrap up the meeting. We had a round-robin with each person explaining why she likes her particular tool. They wanted to hear everything. A few people asked questions and took notes in the hopes that ...

Meet Marty Mason from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

On Thursday I finally got around to writing about our August meeting. In that post I teased everyone with a little about our special guest, Marty Mason, and promised more today. So here we are. Marty is a quilter from North Louisiana who blogs over at Marty's Fiber Musings. I contacted her a while ago and asked her to come to one of our meetings to give a trunk show.

Wow, did she surprise! I knew she'd do a great job--she's given trunk shows and workshops before--but even though I'd attended one of her presentations, I ...

August Cotton Quilters' Guild Meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

My version of the Row by Row
quilt on the design wall
On Monday the Cotton Quilters met at our usual place, usual time. But oh wow! did we have an unusual meeting. More on that in a minute. First, we held a meeting. You know, pledges, updates, minutes and reports: business matters.

And, as we have for the last five or six months, we shared our row quilt blocks. Then I gave out the final block. It's a Dresden fan that will round out our 70 x 84 quilt.

As you can see from the picture on the ...

July Cotton Quilters' Guild Meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

guild fundraiser quilt
Today was our guild meeting. I am just embarrassed by how unorganized and unprepared I was!

It really was intolerable and I'm glad I was not a guild member just waiting for things to happen. I'd have been quite annoyed.

Of course there are things that we do at every meeting: pledge, prayer, prayer requests, minutes and treasury report, that sort of thing. Even those weren't prepared, rather the officers were not at the meeting. When you have to fill two hours and don't have enough "stuff," you need every report.

Life... and our May meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Our life suddenly got insanely difficult. Richard's dad, who has dementia, suddenly had an episode of cognitive decline and had to be hospitalized. His mom has Parkinson's so she is very limited in her ability to care for him.

They are both better now, and he is home, but in an effort to help, we check in with them a few times each day. Since Rich is doing most of the heavy lifting for his parents, I'm the one holding down the fort here. Wow, my guy does way more than I thought!

Mrs. Shirley (our newest ...

Cotton Quilters Guild April Meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

On Monday, the Cotton Quilters Guild held it's April meeting, with little ole me at the helm. It's Friday so it's been four days, which I tell you so that you'd understand how long I've been a-bed. (I'm reading Henry James' Turn of the Screw, so expect more of that old-fashioned, British nonsense.)

I'll say I have a stomach bug, but it's possible someone in my life is poisoning me by putting something in my Gatorade. It would be believable if I weren't so darned fab. Anyway, I'm only drinking ...

March Guild Meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Mrs. Marilyn showing her quilt top.
Each month she shows us how much she's added.
It's the first Monday of the month. That means a Cotton Quilters' Guild meeting. Which means a crazy morning of gathering up stuff, printing stuff, making and organizing a plan, wrapping door prizes, and any other duties I can remember and need to do.

Don't ask me why those things are not done before the morning of the meeting. It's just how I roll. I don't have an answer.

Some of the Kaffe fabrics that Mrs. Marilyn is using
The ...

Cotton Quilters' Guild Meeting * February from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

On Monday the Cotton Quilters held their February meeting. We began promptly at 1 p.m. (I hate when meetings begin late.)

Counting out their yoyos? Or giving up half?

Remember the Great Yoyo Race? Well, it didn't fly as far as I'd have liked. We did count yoyos and one member had 250! In one month of yoyo making. I think she used child labor, but there is no proof, of course. Since I was using husband labor, I guess I can't complain.

Oh no, we're not talking during a meeting. We'd never do ...

Letter from the President from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Hahahaa, yes! President. Of our quilt guild, of course. Can't imagine taking on anything with more responsibility than this office. So yesterday was our first meeting with yours truly at the helm. Things went well. People laughed, I didn't cry, and we began and ended on time. What more can I ask for?

So we took care of the important business of planning our guild trip to the Gulf States Quilt Guild show in April. Then moved on to "The Great Yoyo Race" a game I contrived. In December I asked that anyone who had a completed project ...

Cotton Quilters' Meeting | September from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Last Monday the Cotton Quilters Guild held its September meeting. After dispensing with our usual meeting agenda, we had a few out-of-the-ordinary items to handle. At the end of the month we'll hold our quilt show and craft fair.

Several people are working to get things organized, but Pam, the president, is handling most of the details. She's the kind of girl who likes to make sure things are done right. During the meeting, however, I convinced her that I'm handling the booth arrangements and that I have things under control.

At some point we got to ...
