Birthday Sewing Day with Friends from The Cozy Quilter

Friday was my birthday and my day off, so I invited a couple of friends over the lunch and an afternoon of sewing.  My husband gave me "Spelling Bee" by Lori Holt for my birthday so all of my plans for other projects went out the window and I started a new quilt with patterns from my new book.

I decided to make the sewing machine block first.  I dug through my stash and found fabrics and then spent a while cutting out all the pieces and labelling them.

Once everything was cut out, the block went together quite quickly ...

letters and words from Making A Lather

I have been having fun making letters again. I think they are really easy. I am using the Lori Holt spelling bee book. I have really enjoyed how well it is put together, and the instructions are great.
I especially like that I can cut a few strips in common sizes and then use off of them with each letter. So, most of the sizes are common among the letters. I don't feel like I am digging around for something else, or left with unuseable scraps.

My biggest problem is I am angle challenged. And I think the pictures ...

Sampler Quilts are a Mix of Skills and Fabrics that is Fun to Behold from Quilted Joy

Sampler quilts have always been a favorite of mine. I love the playful way the different patterns draw your eye across the field. I believe I have mentioned this before, but some of the first sampler quilts were more functional than we knew. Before there was the internet or even quilting magazines and books, quilters would create a new block and then share it with friends and neighbors by having block exchanges. As a quilter, you would collect a stack of these random quilt blocks, not to make a sampler quilt, but as a way to record the block design ...

My New Year OMG & BOM! from Val's Quilting Studio

Happy Happy New Year!!
Lucky me, I'm on winter break for the rest of the week yet, still get up early and have breakfast with hubby before he leaves for work. Then I sit right here at our breakfast table and catch up with all of you in the blogging world until daybreak. (Which in our neck of the woods doesn't happen till about 8:00 am.) With that said, I decided to jump in and join two challenges this year in hopes to make a dent in my Quilty Inventory List.

First up: I'm joining many ...

Milk Can Quilt Block & Grocery List from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

Milk Can Quilt Block & Grocery List

Milk Can Quilt Block

In the ’30s, my Opa (Grandpa) delivered milk all around a small city in Holland, Zandvoort aan Zee. Although I never met him, I like to imagine him riding his bike with a cart of jars full of milk. Leaving them on doorsteps for families. When I talked to my mom about this post I learned it was actually a horse and wagon he used for delivery.  My very favorite story about him is the reason why he was put into a work camp for six months during WWII. A few British soldiers’ plane had been ...
