On A Break from From the Strawberry Patch...

You might have thought that I've been on a break. Well, let me tell you, it's not been an intentional one (however break may just be the operative word here). I've got lots to write about and plenty to catch up on; that will all happen soon enough. But, in the meantime, I've been sidelined with a cracked distal radius bone. Yep, that's me and, of course, it's my right wrist. Sigh. Every event

Repetition as Habit from Where Art & Life Meet

“We are what we repeatedly do, therefore, excellence is not an act but a habit.” Aristotle I always think about repetition when I’m stitching.  Stitching a few french knots?  How about a few hundred?  And what about some bullion circles?  A whole cluster of them is even better! In nature repetition is a constant and […]

Our African Adventure: Rwanda! from Where Art & Life Meet

It’s impossible not to contemplate the genocide that ravaged this country, when more than one million people were massacred in 100 days. Think about that. Resulting in a collective trauma that is still felt by so many to this day. It was a brutal time demonstrating the worst aspects of colonialism and the racism that […]

Who do we thank this year? from QUilting By-You

It is the week of Thanksgiving. Many families have a tradition of going around the table to say why they are thankful. Since this year is so different we may have a harder time finding reasons to be thankful.

Sometimes it seems hard to find good reasons and we say the same things we said years prior; family, job, this table full of food. This year you might be thankful that your family is able to gather over zoom or for our health care workers or even just thankful that you have your health.

This year I would like to ...

#ChallengeAccepted from Where Art & Life Meet

The photo above of my sister, me and my mother, was taken by the amazing photographer, John Kelly. We are in the midst of a heat wave here in New York City; staying in is a welcome relief. Which means more time to design, and during small breaks, watch videos like this one, which my… Continue reading #ChallengeAccepted

This and That from From the Strawberry Patch...

I'm keeping busy, there's always too much to do and not enough time to get it all accomplished. I don't know how I ever got anything done at all when I was allowed to leave the house! As fast as I finish one project I find three others to work on! I began setting these stitcheries together with low volume 25-patches. These squares measure 5" finished; with the one inch framing border

Six things Mr. Rogers said that help me cope with Covid-19 from Nita Dances

Dear Vi, Do you remember Mr. Rogers and his neighbourhood? In every episode, he wore a sweater that was knit just for him by his very own mother. I just love that. He once said something very wise that many … Continue reading
