Old and New from Kat & Cat Quilts

Quick, the sun came out! Hurry and take quilt pictures! Seriously though, it can stop raining any time now.  It would be fine with me!

Kathy returned some newly finished quilts to me this week. She took these vintage sampler blocks Holly gave me and finished them off beautifully for Covered in Love.

I'd also given Kathy one of my oldest UFOs, made in the Four Patch Charm pattern with scrappy batiks.  Thank You Kathy! This one's finally done and ready to go comfort a family.

And finally, here's a sneak peek of a new quilts as ...

CiL Quilt Stars from Kat & Cat Quilts

Happy weekend! Isn't this quilt nice? Dhia put it together from blocks the NURTURE circle quilters of do. Good Stitches made.  The peach/pink/grey/navy color scheme turned out fantastic.  The Nurture circle has been supporting Covered in Love for about 3 years now.

Next, Mina sent in another of her scrappy village quilt tops, fifth one this year. These quilts are great because there are so many surprises hiding in the scrappy fabrics.

I backed it with some bright fabrics from Sandra and finished it with a stipple.

Finally, Kathy sent along a finished scrap quilt of ...

String Quilts 2018 Wrap Up from Kat & Cat Quilts

At long last, the quilts from the Jan/Feb string block drive for Covered in Love are done! This was our largest block drive to date by far, producing 33 finished quilts, and I'm quite proud to get them all done in 2018!  I delivered them to the hospital in batches, so I merged the photo above to get all of them together. The season goes from spring to winter as you move left to right.

Blocks by Johanna, quilted by Angie

I took a front shot of each quilt as they were finished. The last 12 are here ...

Spring, Fall, and Winter Quilts from Kat & Cat Quilts

Happy weekend! I have a set of three seasonally appropriate quilts for Covered in Love.  This top was made by Marianne, quilted by me, backed with fabric from Sandra and bound with binding from Holly! A true collaboration.

One of Sandra's beautiful backings

It's a large quilt, something like 60"x80" and so bright and Spring-y. I'm pretty sure these are Kaffe fabrics, looks like his colors.

Perfect binding, courtesy of Holly

Next, another of Marianne's large quilt tops in a perfect Fall colored palette.

I love these cozy colors and the on point setting. I ...

Red, White, and Blue All Over from Kat & Cat Quilts

The first 6 (out of 12) quilts from the summer Oh My Stars! block drive are done and ready to deliver to the hospital for Covered in Love.

All six of these were pieced and quilted by my wonderful, life-saving quilter Kathy.  She's going for sainthood, I believe ;)

Great backings for these came from many sources, but largely from Sandra.  So many interesting backings with great large scale prints.

One of the chaplains was telling me again recently how often families connect to the backings of quilts. There was one woman who was passing who had been a longtime ...

Priscilla's Pretty Quilts from Kat & Cat Quilts

I'd have to go pretty far back in the archives to figure out when Priscilla from Connecticut first began sending me UFO blocks and tops for Covered in Love.

Like many (dare I say most) quilters Priscilla suffers from the accumulation of decades of unfinished projects, more than could ever be completed.

I'm only too happy to help! Most of Priscilla's quilts are scrappy with a vintage vibe and many of them are quite large.  They're perfect for the mostly-older crowd CiL distributes to.

I quilted this Flying Geese quilt and the star one below.

Both ...

Hunter's Star Block Drive Wrap Up from Kat & Cat Quilts

Like my split screen effect?
Yes, at long last all the quilts from the March/April Covered in Love block drive are done and delivered!

Assembled and quilted by Kathy
There were thirteen of these "regular" blue Hunter's Star quilts made from 390 blocks sent in by over 60 quilters.  I also count the RWB Hunter's Star UFO blocks sent in by Pam during this drive and there will eventually be one more quilt made from leftover blocks, so 15 total!

Assembled and quilted by Kathy
Even though this was a really simple block I love the quilts ...

(More) Americana from Kat & Cat Quilts

Blocks by Pam, assembled and quilted by Kathy
The Summer block drive, Red White and Blue Stars, is wrapping up and I've got some more thematically-appropriate finishes for Covered in Love to show!

This first quilt was made from some RWB hunter's star blocks sent in by Pam during the March block drive.  I added some more donated fabrics for a border and Kathy assembled and quilted the whole thing.  I love the layout she chose!

These Snowball blocks were a UFO sent in by Priscilla.  I made a few ...

Unsung Heroes from Kat & Cat Quilts

Kathy is one of the (many) unsung heroes who keep Covered in Love in quilts. For the past year she's met me about once a month in a parking lot to exchange raw materials for finished quilts.  All three of the quilts in this post were pieced and quilted by her from donated blocks.

These blue blocks were sent in by Carol from Minnesota and made a pretty 60"x70" quilt.  For some reason that yellow block doesn't jump out at me in person, but I love how it looks in the picture in the center of the ...

38 Quilters > 226 Blocks > 7 Quilts from Kat & Cat Quilts

Happy Friday! This is an especially good one for me since I have another block drive wrap up to show!  The Nov/Dec patchwork quilts are all done.  7 Quilts in the "Ready to Go" stack for Covered in Love.

These last 3 quilts measure a generous 72" square. Kathy assembled and quilted them for me (thank you!!)

It's funny that in the last year or so the block drives have expanded to the point that I consider a drive that produces "only" 7 quilts small.

Several of you have mentioned that you weren't too sure about how ...

Other People's UFOs from Kat & Cat Quilts

I have a file on my computer called "Other People's UFOs" where I save the photos of quilts that started off as someone else's projects.  Many of them come to me at the top stage, some as blocks.  I love the variety that these projects bring to Covered in Love and I love that they get finished and go to forever homes!

This pretty and very large top was pieced by Priscilla and quilted by Kathy.  It's got a great scrappy, vintage look and the 8-patch rectangles are so different and neat.

This bright flannel top was ...

Susannah in the Fall, Part I from Kat & Cat Quilts

The first four Scrappy Susannah block quilts from Covered in Love's Sept/Oct block drive are done!

This block drive used a tutorial by Andy at A Bright Corner in a Fall color scheme and you all made it CiL's biggest block drive to date, both in number of quilters and blocks sent in.  I'm anticipating 13 finished quilts, so that would be our biggest set of quilts from a drive as well!

These first two were pieced and quilted by Kathy C., who I am fortunate enough to know in person!
She did a nice diagonal ...

Oh My Stars! 9 Quilts! from Kat & Cat Quilts

The last three quilts from the July block drive are finished and it's time to wrap this one up!  We made 9 beautiful red, white, and blue star quilts to be gifted to grieving families through Covered in Love.

Here are the glamour shots of the last three quilts.  If you contributed blocks and don't see them in one of these check out the previous posts with the first six quilts here and here.

This block drive was a repeat of one from last year where we made five patriotic quilts. The chaplains have told me how much ...

Oh My Stars from Kat & Cat Quilts

Before you look at my post, go check out the awesome quilt Louise made for CiL this week with fabrics from Jean and Sandra!

This week the first finishes from this summer's Red White and Blue Stars block drive are done!  This year I tried to sort them more than I did last year.  This top quilt is mostly blocks with dark backgrounds, "vintage" looking fabrics, and off-white backgrounds.

All three of the quilts in today's post were quilted by the wonderful Kathy.  She's a dedicated local quilter who has helped Covered in Love a ton.

The ...

Grandad's Shirts Cozy Quilts from Kat & Cat Quilts

It's another block drive wrap up this week! This time from the March/April "grandad's shirts" blocks.  Soothing, masculine colors with subtle texture and great scrappy fabric variation make these quilts soooo cozy.

First up are two quilts (above and below) quilted by Judy from AZ. She used geometric designs and grid quilting to emphasize the right angles in the blocks.

The next two quilts, below, were assembled and quilted by Kathy from Texas.

Kathy used stipple quilting, which gives the quilts a completely different feel and brings out the scrappiness of the all the different blocks.

Twenty ...
