Fancy Flight Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

What do quilters dream of? Flying geese with perfectly sharp points, of course! But sometimes those points get lost in the seam allowance, leaving your little geese tragically beakless. What’s a quilter to do?

In this week’s new tutorial, Jenny demonstrates how to preserve those points with one simple tip.

Psst!! This quilt will be featured in the upcoming issue of BLOCK Magazine (volume 6 Issue 5), subscribe to BLOCK Magazine HERE and don’t miss seeing this quilt in another fun colorway!

Half-Square Triangle Hooks Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

MSQC New Tutorial on the Blog!
New quilting tutorial with Jenny Doan of Missouri Star Quilt Company

When a favorite 10-year-old was learning to fish, she cast her line with loads of enthusiasm but very little caution. As a result, she made plenty of catches—but none were fish!

She caught one sister by the sleeve of her shirt and another by the ponytail. Worst of all, she hooked her father clear through the nose! (The poor fellow drove all the way to the emergency room with a shiny yellow lure dangling from his right nostril!)

This week Jenny is creating hazard-free hooks with our favorite ...

Waves Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

Waves can be scary. In 1958, a landslide triggered a 1,700+ foot wave in Lituya Bay, Alaska. And here’s the wildest part: A little fishing boat was carried atop that wave, clear up the side of the forested mountains and back. But somehow, the boat, the fisherman, and his 8-year-old son came away completely unscathed!

So, yeah, waves can be super-dee-duper scary. But Jenny’s waves? They’re just fun! Click HERE to learn how to whip up gorgeous, wavy curves using our drunkard’s path template!

Cute Campers Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

Cute Camper Quilt Tutorial
Have you heard of “glamping?” It’s just like camping…but with a touch of glamour! Instead of roughing it with the bare essentials, you bring along the comforts of home: running water, air conditioning, a welcome mat, and a real queen bed!
Cute Camper Quilt Tutorial
Here at Missouri Star, we hold an annual glamping retreat. Quilters make the trek to Hamilton with the cutest little trailers in tow. Some trailers are painted pink and blue. Some have polka dot curtains. Some are decorated with plastic pink flamingos. The whole scene is so adorable, it inspired this week’s new quilt!

Sunshine Lattice Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

The same tune can be played by a 70-piece orchestra or a honky-tonk band. The melody is identical, but boy, oh boy! It sure sounds different!

The same goes for quilts, you know. This week’s new quilt is classically pretty with the sunflowers of “Jardin Dy Soleil” by Lola Molina for Wilmington Prints. But guess what? If you use solids instead, the pattern instantly becomes fresh and modern! The possibilities are endless! Click HERE to watch the tutorial!

Vintage Blossom Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

During the 1920s, the Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt pattern took the quilting world by storm! No one could resist those charming little hexagons, but they sure were tricky to put together! Some quilters used English paper piecing; some used y-seams. But no matter the technique, this pattern required yards and yards of time and patience!

This week, Jenny is working on a quick and easy version using our half hexi template.

Tilted Nine Patch Quilt from The Cutting Table Quilt Blog - A Blog for Quilters by Quilters

Legend tells of a restaurant patron who refused his fried potatoes so many times, the chef just ‘bout lost his mind.  “Too mushy. Too thick. Make them again!” demanded the diner.

In frustration, the chef cut paper-thin slices of potato and fried ‘em to a crisp. Much to his surprise, the customer was delighted, and the potato chip was born! What a deliciously happy accident!

This week, Jenny experienced her own “happy accident,” and the result was the Tilted Nine Patch Quilt. It’s not the quilt she set out to make, but it sure is a beauty! Grab your ...
