Pin It Weekly #301 from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Geez, I'm struggling. This bout of depression is really sticking to me, but I'm determined to just wait it out until it gets out. In the meantime, I have managed two minutes in the studio, some babysitting, and some pinning. Yes, I know, but there's been quite a bit of waiting in doctors' offices, so ....

What have I been pinning you ask? Well, I'm not quite over Christmas. I know others have put away their trees and packed up their pretties, but I'm just not ready. I want to wait and enjoy them when the ...

top nine / one quilt from Charm About You

The year of colour site is an interesting tool that assesses the dominant colours used in your instagram photos. You can play with the sliders to adjust the pixels and brightness etc. and it's cool to see which colours it picks out. I have seen a lot of them pop up on other peoples feeds and they are all so different. Mine was a bit of a surprise, I know I've used brown a lot but I did think they'd be more pink and less blue. I guess it doesn't feel completely 'me' but then as ...

Christmas continues... from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

I finally got into the studio today. I didn't know what to do, except clean house, but what fun is that? So, as we say in French comme ça va (as it goes), I decided to start a new project. New projects generally create messes, so as we also say comme de fait (as it does) I made the already big mess beaucoup plus much bigger.

But the mess is worth it! Because look what I pulled off. Today. I know. It is after Christmas. That's okay. I just had an itch. It's been weeks, WEEKS I ...

carry around some quiet from Charm About You

This was part of my mum's Christmas present. I had this idea in my head, to combine some cross stitch and Kraft-tex to make a bookmark. This is really a very basic make but I'm pleased with how it turned out and hope it will wear well as she uses it. I know that Kraft-tex can actually feel better the more it's handled and it should still hold its shape, as it helpfully conceals the guts of the cross stitching.

◌ Washi Double Dresden Wreath ◌ from Charm About You

green and white dresden plate christmas fabric wreath by Charm About You

It feels wonderful to have a new version of the Double Dresden Wreath, made using the free tutorial I created a couple of years ago. The original was demonstrated on Sewing Quarter, the samples that hung in the studio stayed there, and I am so happy to now have one for our house. I made this wreath for my December project as an Aurifil Artisan, our challenge was to create a holiday themed project. Perfect for brightening any door or bare looking wall space, the wreath pattern is a merry make!

My original plan was slightly different but this was ...

AURIFIL ARTISAN CHALLENGE | meet molly

This year Aurifil Threads have set a series of challenges for their Artisans and as an Artisan we have the choice of which challenges we sign up for. The November challenge was a bag making!  Something a little outside of my comfort zone and the exact reason I choose to be a part of this one.

Aurifil partnered with Sallie Tomato to choose our pattern from and Therm-o-web would be supplying the interfacings. I teamed my pattern selection, 'Molly' with bag hardware in a gunmetal finish, gold fleck cork and two prints from Anna Maria ...

Ready, Set....don't leave me behind ~ from Marty's Fiber Musings

Have I been a drag on myself?   Or others?   It's time for me to re-group, re-focus with open eyes and clear head.  Time to get moving and get ready for upcoming events.    My prep work is done for the local guild gathering, the house is clean for holiday company, the yard work is done and the frost will help keep it that way!

It's been a while since my last quilting retreat so I'm excited to get away for a couple of nights and days to be with kindred spirits.   Most of the other participants are new ...

Oh, the value of value ~ from Marty's Fiber Musings

I've been humbled in the past few weeks as the HuMaN and I  continue to downsize our stuff to become more and more the minimalist that our hearts crave.   Together we sorted through all those plastic records and album covers until we finally decided that we had finished with the sentiments and that the look of the barren closet shelf was most becoming.   It took a few hours as we shared where we were and what we were doing when that Jackson Browne or Sting or Beatles tune was a hit.   Oh, the value of sentiments?

Deliberation done, it ...

Just Because ~ from Marty's Fiber Musings

You've heard it and I've said it....."Just because you can doesn't mean you should!"  Not taking this to heart,  and having a roll of Tyvek on hand, I decided I could.   After a bit of painting and sewing,

painted tyvek zippered pouch - marty mason

the fruit of my labor - a painted on Tyvek  zippered pouch.  Loving the way it distressed when the pouch was turned inside out after completion.   Now filed under the tab of I-must-do-this-again.

Enjoy my ride and smile with me.

It's The Little-est Things ~ from Marty's Fiber Musings

Simply the little-est things are so fun.  In my quest to downsize the city dump, I've made these little 10" square kitchen wipes with fabric scraps that you might also see in one of my quilts - backed with terry cloth - to use rather than paper towels.

They are the perfect size to wipe the counter and scrub the kitchen sink ~

or use to drain the just-washed bunch of grapes, celery stalks or juicy red tomato ~

or just use to wipe my fingers dry ~

Oh, I'm still using paper towels but not to the extent that I once did ...

Quilting Arts & A Rooster from Where Art & Life Meet

A couple years ago I was featured in Quilting Arts Magazine – the Year of the Rooster!   The piece I submitted, entitled Regal Rooster, was made of wool, cotton and silk velvet (that I dyed myself) using a variety of threads, but predominantly Eleganza Perle Cotton from Sue Spargo.  She has the most luscious… Continue reading Quilting Arts & A Rooster

Giving Handmade from Sew Some Sunshine

Giving handmade gifts can by tricky.  If you are a maker you know what I mean.  You work hard on something and you're never really sure the receiver will actually like it.  You've picked out the fabric and pattern and decided what to make.  You put yourself out there and give a gift you love.  I guess this is true of all gifts, but the material and time it takes to make something raises the stakes.  For the most part I've got a decent radar for who will appreciate a handmade gift, so I try not to ...

Crafty Cards from Incomparable Buttons

There's no better feeling than giving...but if its just a thoughtful little something, often the card can cost as much as the gift. So why not whip up a few handmade cards of varying themes and keep them in a drawer to accompany a wedding, anniversary or Valentine's gift (you guessed it, the theme here is love and hearts) It's never been easier to create your own homemade greeting

Another first: Weaving . . . from Gilly Makes

I'd been wanting to learn to weave for ages, then last year when we were across the pond in the beautiful city of Ottawa, Canada and visiting a delightful little shop called Wabi Sabi, their range of knitters and rigid heddle looms intruiged me.
I was further inspired by all their fabulous creations on display, to the degree that I seriously considered the possibilty of buying a loom right there and then (the exchange rate of the Canadian dollar to the UK pound was very favourable).  But the logistics of schlepping it back on the plane stopped me, so ...

ORGANIC FLORA - An Adults Coloring Book by Seraphym Art from Seraphym

So I've been a little pre-occupied lately with all this Drawing, Sewing, and Wedding planning. It's been crazy! Plus it's school holidays so I'm trying to get all the creative time I can in now before it's back to the paperwork of Doom!!! Duh Duh Duh.

If you play along on Instagram, I've been busy drawing up my new Colouring Book, Organic Flora. I'm now happy to announce that I have finished the book and it's available now on Etsy in both digital and hard copy formats :)
