Quilters' Guild Acadienne Show from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Logo from Guilters' Guild Acadienne
I have been running around this month doing all manner of quilting and quilt-like things. All manner of fun quilty things. Let's see, there was the retreat at the beginning of the month. I wrote two additional posts about it here and here

Fiddle Stix by Elle Caillouet

Then Richard and I went to the CFAL exhibit at the State Archives. There were so many quilts it took a second post. We beat it to the Quilters' Guild Acadienne show in Lafayette on the same day.

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: Quilty 365 from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Be inspired by my "Quilty 365" board! There are over 100 pins of circle blocks, tops, and quilts, all part of the Quilty 365 challenge. I jumped in well after it started, but was still able to make enough blocks for a large quilt. Can you believe that these were made in 2016-17? Has it really been that long?

"The Quarry," my version of the Quilty 365 project quilted completely in circles (pebbles). It was a constant reminder of a quarry that we saw on vacation in 2015.

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: Circles from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

When I first wrote this SQI in May of 2015, I provided this link so that anyone interested in finding Modern Quilt Guild could find the 30 groups that had boards on Pinterest. Tonight the same search, "modern quilt guilds" brings up about 150 boards. That's more math than I can do, but I will safely say it's a grand increase in four years! I hope you enjoy this retro post of Sunday Quilt Inspiration.

This is a custom designed stained glass window panel that was created to hanging in a long narrow window or sidelight. It measures approximately 9 1/2 inches wide X 57 inches long. We find these long bubble designs look great when hung or installed horizontally above French doors or vertically in the side light of a front entry door. They add color, interest and privacy to a home.Hiroyuki Hamada

I wonder if I could get my very artistic daughter to make me something similar in oil pastels or chalk????

I just LOVE a circle quilt - simple to make, but oh so cute - - love this holiday version. tutorial via Sugar Bee Crafts

Piece N Quilt: free tutorials. This could work with the prints I bought for Sophie's quilt, on a white ground.

Melinda Quilts ETC: Customer Quilts - Circle quilt idea....could be a neat one to make into stars and planets on a black background

Baby Boy Quilt - need to find someone to make this for me out of caden's clothes

Okay, I loooovin' this quilt! How about big Kaffe Fassett, etc prints on b/w???

Been trying to find pillows that would bring in several colors in my living room and I think this is a great idea for that. These are small enough you could even cut down quilting squares that come in so many colors/patterns.

Cotton Quilters Guild June Meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Ginni is serious about getting caught up with her
BOM blocks. I think she had more, I just missed them.
Monday was the big day. I have two guild meetings on Monday. It's a day of great fun but also kind of tiring. But it's only once a month and I do get to talk and think and see quilts. All. Day. Long! Aren't ya just a little jealous?

Don't get fooled.
When Grandmay babysits, she also puts you to work.
Some of us are "keeping up" with the program.
Most of the meeting we discussed ...

Cotton Quilters' Guild May meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

While I didn't get to the Baton Rouge Modern Quilt Guild meeting yesterday, I managed to get to the guild meeting in Cottonport. It wore me out, but I had so much fun!

Three of Irma's blocks

Mary C's blocks
We started the meeting in our usual way, but there were lots of laughs, and I took a little ribbing about my recent surgery and my derrière. Somehow we got past all that nonsense and talked about important things, like quilts and our upcoming show.

Pam's blocks
Of course, we've been continuing our guild sampler ...

Cotton Quilters' Guild March Meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Today the Cotton Quilters had our March meeting, at which I made a happy announcement: I'm the newest Gulf States Quilting Association (GSQA) circuit teacher! So there's that good news.

But we also had a fabulous meeting. We took care of business then moved on to fun. First up, the March blocks for our guild sampler BOM.

Irma with one block and Sandra with two.

We shared finished January and February blocks.
Ginny with her February blocks and
Mary with her January blocks

Maggie and Mary with their February blocks

Pam shared her Jelly Roll Rug tutorial.

Cotton Quilters Guild February Meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

On Monday last the Cotton Quilters met at our usual time and place for a very unusual surprise. I had my friend and fellow-blogger from Quilts and Dogs blog visit with us and present her fabric exploration theory. Wow! She's awesome.

She has played with fabric more than anyone I've ever met. I can't remember all the ways she colors and works with fabric. Let's see--dyeing, discoloring, discharging, bleach, rusting and using natural materials, such as flowers, fruit and veggies, wood and mud. She also showed some of her quilts.

We easily spent an hour ohh-ing ...

Quilting Retreat from Butterfly Threads

It's time for my annual quilting retreat with my local guild. Every January we travel to a retreat center in the middle of nowhere. It's completely free from distractions (and sometimes hot water and often wifi) allowing us to focus on fabric, friends and fun!

I've been attending the annual retreat with this group for over 20 years. How can that be? Surely I'm not old enough to say that? Sigh, it's true though. I'm so blessed to have these women in my life. I love how quilting connects us. Between us we have ...

Great start for 2019 from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

for the Cotton Quilter's Guild, anyway! We had our first meeting of 2019 on Monday and started out right. For this meeting I asked (and reminded) everyone to bring in her favorite tool--only one or two. It was a rousing success!

Not everyone felt comfortable talking in front of the audience, which turned out to be a good thing since I was rushing to wrap up the meeting. We had a round-robin with each person explaining why she likes her particular tool. They wanted to hear everything. A few people asked questions and took notes in the hopes that ...

Buttons and Thread and Scissors! A finish! from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

You might think that decorating for a high school prom would require pretty useless skills. After all, there are very tight budget restraints, few knowledgeable workers and, least of, ridiculously cheap props. This post reminds me of those days of building props. Some for Beta convention and other events, but the heyday of the prop-making scene is Prom. Days of cutting and gluing and painting and hanging and, whew! I don't want to think of any more to-dos from those days.

Instead, let me tell you a story:
Last month a lady called asking for help to decorate a ...

Two Guilds, One Day from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Want to know who attended two, yes two, guild meetings on Monday? This girl. This one right here. Umm. Me. The girl on the right is Mrs. Josie and she's showing off her very pretty set of pillows that match the fundraiser quilt our guild is raffling.

I attended the usual, first Monday of the month, Cotton Quilters' Guild Meeting in Cottonport. It was informative, stressing, and fun. Then I attended the new-to-me first Monday of the month Baton Rouge Modern Quilt Guild. It was informative, stressing, and fun.

Today's post covers the first one. Remember that I ...

September Cotton Quilters' Guild Meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

My gray, yellow and red version
I had great plans for writing about our September meeting, which we delayed by a week because of the Labor Day holiday. Then the computer mishap and the resulting week of limping along to finish a church project, followed by another week or so of geek repairs.

Now that we're beyond all of that, I've looked over my pictures from the meeting and think I may remember some of that day which now seems so long ago.

Mary C's Christmas version
I asked everyone to bring in their blocks or quilt ...

2018 Sew Your Stash Quilt Along! from Butterfly Threads

2018 Medallion Sew Along (c) BTQ 2018

I am the BOM (block of the month) person for my guild this year and we've decided to a sew along!

I asked for opinions (when will I learn !?! LOL) and it was decided that the guild did NOT want to do a block exchange, and they did NOT want to do a mystery, and they did NOT want shop for lots of fabric and they did NOT want to be surprised or confused.

They DO want to sew their own step each month, and they DO want to be able to ...

Quilt Guild of the Villages Trunk show and workshop from Butterfly Threads

On Tuesday I had the honor of presenting my trunk show Scrap Quilt Secrets to the Quilt Guild of the Villages, in Florida. It was a great group of about 200 fun quilters who showed up for my presentation. There was free ice cream as well, so that may have been helpful!

The next day was spent sewing and learning and having fun with a full day of  Under the Mistletoe workshop to a sold out crowd! I'm not exaggerating when I say I enjoyed every single one of the special women. The best part is, that no two ...

Krotz Springs Quilt Guild Show from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Some of my favs. I love the colors and patterns.
Krotz Springs always has a great show. First there are plenty of quilts to see and several vendors, who are all members of the guild. Second, they have trunk shows throughout the day.

I'm not sure how one decides whether the quilt(s) belong in the show or in a trunk. I assume the quilts that are hanging are quilts  finished in the past year, but those in trunks could have been made at any point in time. There are usually three or four trunk shows, so the members ...

Colorado Springs Quilters from Butterfly Threads

I flew to Colorado Springs Wednesday night because there were no flights on Thursday that arrived in time for me to present to the quilt guild. So Thursday morning (guild meeting wasn't until evening) I got a phone call from this sweet lady named Anne. She volunteered to be my hostess for the day and she was so delightful!

Our first stop was at Nana's Quilt Cottage in Old Colorado City. It is a tiny shop packed full of wonderful goodies. I found a few small treasures to bring home (but suitcase space is limited so I had ...

Life... and our May meeting from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Our life suddenly got insanely difficult. Richard's dad, who has dementia, suddenly had an episode of cognitive decline and had to be hospitalized. His mom has Parkinson's so she is very limited in her ability to care for him.

They are both better now, and he is home, but in an effort to help, we check in with them a few times each day. Since Rich is doing most of the heavy lifting for his parents, I'm the one holding down the fort here. Wow, my guy does way more than I thought!

Mrs. Shirley (our newest ...
