November 2022 OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

My OMG for November was to finish a challenge piece that included a piece of fused fabric made at an art quilt group (Art 2 Quilt) meeting.

Here is my section of the fused fabric.

And here is my finished quilt.

I talked about the process here.

I chose the solid black border so the fused fabric could be the star. It needed a little something more, which is why I chose a multi-color binding and variegated quilting thread. The quilt measures 22 x 11.

To see all the other November OMG finishes, head over to Elm Street Quilts.

Sunday Stash November 27, 2022 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric in this week.

I finished the fused fabric challenge piece for a half yard out. I actually like the back better than the front, which has me unsure about adding a label. I prefer to make small table mats reversible so they can do double duty. The piece is small, 22 x 11.

I’ll post a picture of the front in my OMG finish post.

I’m close to breaking even for the year.

Me, Playing from Quilt Paint Create

Happy Thanksgiving!

My November OMG is to finish the fused fabric challenge piece. For that to happen, I needed to start.

First I stitched over the fused fabric with variegated thread, making sure to catch each fused shape at least once. Spoiler alert, I should have stitched in lines or a grid to catch each fused shape multiple times.

Then I cut windows in a plain piece of paper in the shape of a circle, fan, square and rectangle. The rectangle looked best. I cut the fused fabric into rectangular pieces.

My first idea was a wheel shape, but I ...

November 2022 OMG And Short List from Quilt Paint Create

I have no idea what I did in the sewing room last month, but I don’t think it amounted to much. Maybe my goal for November should be to show up. Sometimes back to basics is best.

The project list repeats last month’s.

Project One: The Tiny Modernist Holiday 2022 SAL. All parts have been released now. There is so much stitching on this piece! My goal is Christmas 2023. I am pleased that it’s starting to look like something.

Project Two: The pinwheel charity quilt. I’m sewing setting squares to pinwheel blocks. A design opportunity ...

Sunday Stash October 2, 2022 from Quilt Paint Create

Nothing to report this week.

At Art Quilt Group, we all brought in pre-fused geometric shapes in bright colors to fuse onto solid black fabric. We had enough shapes to cover two cuts of black.

Aren’t they fun?

Then we cut the black fabric into enough pieces that we could each take one.

Here is my piece.

I haven’t figured out what to do with it yet. The challenge is to use it in a finished piece, due at the November meeting.

The black measures 22” x 6.5” (smaller than I count).

Resist, Phase Three and Four from Quilt Paint Create

We left off with the resist piece here.

Then I added a little bit of silver paint. It didn’t show up so I changed to silver paintstik. Next came blue paintstik over a rubbing plate.

I still wasn’t happy with the silver. My philosophy with paint is to go big or go home. It’s only fabric. I added more silver paint, and then added purple paint with a sponge (in the circles) and a brush (background).

I would normally keep adding layers, but this fabric will become a quilted project and I want the quilting to show ...

September 2022 Short List and OMG from Quilt Paint Create

It’s hard to believe it’s September already. Fall is definitely in the air here. We’ll have more hot weather, but we haven’t seen much of that lately.

I didn’t finish anything last month. I have way too many projects going for my taste. I’m revising the list to change my focus.

Project One: I’m very close to finishing My Sewing Treasures by Bobby G Designs.

Project Two: I signed up for the Tiny Modernist Holiday 2022 SAL. The SAL runs for three months. Rough start with the white floss not showing up against ...

Road Trip from Quilt Paint Create

The AQS Show in Grand Rapids, Michigan opened Wednesday. If you visit the show, make sure to check out the Ultimate Guild Challenge exhibit. My art quilt group, Art 2 Quilt, is exhibiting with the theme “Road Trip”. Here’s my quilt.

The Ultimate Guild Challenge exhibit has always been one of my favorite exhibits at that show. I am honored and blessed to have a quilt displayed. Many thanks to all the members of Art 2 Quilt, who are always up for a challenge and willing to try new things. They are a talented group, and I have learned ...

Roads from Quilt Paint Create

The challenge quilt, renamed Roads Less Traveled, is finished. I cleaned up the sewing room last night to make space for new projects.

I chose not to post a full picture until we find out if our quilts are accepted for the exhibit. I’m not sure of the rules and don’t want to create a problem.

But I will show a section of the quilt where I did a lot of beading.

It’s one of my favorite parts, along with the birds.

This project definitely got me back in the quilting groove. I retreat to the sewing ...

Sunday Stash March 6, 2022 from Quilt Paint Create

I finally have something to report!

The challenge quilt is quilted, the facing is done and the sleeve is on. I’m sewing beads on now.

It still needs a label, a compass and more beads, but the end is near. Best of all I can count the fabric out.

I have to turn it in next weekend. I can’t wait to start something new.

March 2022 Short List And OMG from Quilt Paint Create

I finished my February OMG, the challenge quilt top.

I will continue to keep the list small, but not quite as small. I’m feeling the need for more variety.

Project One: My Needle Arts Guild started a band sampler stitch-along. We review the stitches for two bands at the monthly meeting, with a goal of finishing those bands before the next meeting. This project will continue into May.

Project Two: This is a challenge quilt for my Art Quilt Group. The top is quilted and three sides of the facing are sewn. It needs a sleeve, a label and ...

Sunday Stash February 27, 2022 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers.

Quilting continues on the challenge quilt. I haven’t worked on anything else this week.

I should be ready to count at least some of the fabric out next week, although I don’t think the quilt will be complete.

I can’t wait to finish it and have the freedom to work on other projects.

February 2022 OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

My OMG for February was to finish the top for my Art Quilt Group’s challenge quilt. We have size requirements, plus it has to include paper, a compass, a piece of focus fabric, beads or jewelry and a road. The theme is “Roadtrip”.

I finished the top and have started quilting it. I won’t add beads until I’m done quilting. I also haven’t added the compass yet. I think the compass will also be a surface embellishment.

I’m linking to Elm Street Quilts for the February finish party.

Sunday Stash February 13, 2022 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers, but soon.

The challenge top is pieced. I pulled backing and batting yesterday. The goal today is to baste it and start quilting.

Last week it came to my attention that my comments on many of your links reject. I appreciate everyone that takes time to link up, and I read all of your posts. The reject notices went to my spam folder, where I didn’t notice them. I’ve had this problem off and on over the years. Hopefully it will resolve itself again soon.

February 2022 Short List And OMG from Quilt Paint Create

I finished my January OMG, the felt tree ornament. That means something new gets added to the list.

I will continue to keep the list at just a few items. That’s about all I can manage right now.

Project One: My Needle Arts Guild started a band sampler stitch-along. We review the stitches for two bands at the monthly meeting, with a goal of finishing those bands before the next meeting. This project will continue through April.

Sunday Stash January 30, 2022 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers.

Work on the challenge quilt continues. I have the design set and the components made. Now I need to set it all together, which is more complicated than it sounds given the shapes of the pieces.

I also started my Needle Arts Guild’s stitch-along (SAL) project. It’s a band sampler on 28 count linen. I’ve never stitched on linen before, and it’s making me a little crazy. I don’t think I can stitch on it at night after working on the computer all day. The sampler has nine bands, and ...

No change in the numbers.

Nothing to show either. The challenge quilt is a hot mess of ideas and pieces up on the design wall. Sometime in the next few weeks it will come together.

While sewing I’ve realized my stash is sadly lacking light fabric that isn’t a neutral (white, tan cream). The next time I can’t resist the lure of new fabric I need to buy some lights.

Sunday Stash January 9, 2022 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers.

For all the time spent on projects, I have little to show for it.

Nothing outside of the sewing room went as planned and the possibility exists this week will be more of the same.

I’m over it.

When life moves beyond annoying I hole up in the sewing room. For now I’m working on this.

Maybe I can cut a deal with the Universe to turn this train around and still spend time in the sewing room.

New Year, New Plan, OMG from Quilt Paint Create

Like everyone else, I ended last year thinking about plans for this year. 2021 was not a prolific year in the sewing room. I spent far more time stitching and finished a lot of projects as compared to prior years.

I’m not a fast sewer or stitcher. I’m usually one of the last people to finish in class. I rarely have extended for creative hobbies.

That said, I will continue to have a Short List but a much smaller one. My goals this year are to use what I have, finish what I’ve started and do the ...

Sunday Stash January 2, 2022 from Quilt Paint Create

Welcome to the first stash report of 2022.

Just yesterday I was thinking no one would have additions this week with only one day in this report. So what did I do this morning?

I don’t think I’ve ever bought fabric so quick into the new year.

I spent Friday working on my design for the challenge quilt. It has a tight deadline, and the right fabric would save me some time. Hard to believe I found it at Walmart while getting groceries.

No fabric out this year, but I finished a small piece New Year’s Eve ...
