Challenge Finished from Quilt Paint Create

I finally finished the challenge quilt, which I named Destination Unknown. That quilt took me places I never thought it would go.
destintion unknownTo recap, the challenge included an ocean theme, a shark, a starfish, something plastic and a focus fabric. The center star is the focus fabric. I painted it gold and added black dots and lines to continue the pattern.
For something plastic, I used the mesh from the viewing window in a potato bag. I painted it a pale gold, glued it to the star, trimmed very carefully and appliqued it as one with the star.

Sunday Stash February 2, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

One month out of twelve done already! How are you doing on stash usage?
I’m in the home stretch on the challenge quilt, which I have named Destination Unknown. The facing is attached and partially stitched, the sleeve made and the starfish painted to match the other neutral fabrics in the quilt.
starfishThe focus fabric had some white space in it, which looked all wrong on the starfish. I used black Pigma pen to color in the dot pattern where there wasn’t any. I mixed brown and white paint for the background. I’m very happy with how ...

Sunday Stash January 26, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric in or out this week.
The Guild Challenge top is quilted. Half the applique is fused and two of the shapes are stitched.
ugc with appliqueIt still needs the shark, the starfish, the challenge fabric and the plastic. A lot will happen with the second half of the applique.
I can’t wait to finish this and move on to something else.

Sunday Stash January 19, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric in or out this week. The fabric that came with the Sugar Bear Camp pattern was the size of a sheet of copy paper. I don’t count anything in or out smaller than an eighth yard. I figure it evens out in the end.
I’m now quilting the Guild Challenge quilt. I hope to finish it in the next couple weeks. I also finished embroidering the frames on the bear quilt. I’m eager to get that one put together.
Because those two projects weren’t enough, I started cutting the HSTs apart and did some ...

Sunday Stash January 5, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

Welcome to the first Sunday Stash of 2020!
We would love to have you join us. You can report weekly, monthly, whenever your numbers change or you have time. Some count fabric out as used, others when the project is complete. You can do whatever fits you best.
The point is not to use all your stash or never buy fabric again. We do this to be more intentional in what we buy and in using what we have. I also track because I have limited storage space and too much stash causes a clutter problem in my small sewing ...

January 2020 Short List and Q1 Goals from Quilt Paint Create

Happy New Year!
The Short List got a makeover for the new year. The categories now align with my quarterly goals instead of the more random categories of something old, something new, a handwork project, and creative play/design. I’ve used this system for over 5 years and think this format is more focused. As always, I can change the categories if my goals or interests change.
UFO – Ten block frames down, two to embroider on the Bear quilt.bears 1 to 10Garment – Very Easy Vogue 8253. I bought green fabric, but I also have a deep pink from the thrift that ...

December OMG And More Blocks from Quilt Paint Create

Finishing the rail fence charity quilt was my December OMG.
rail fence doneI finished it December 14th, which left me lots of time to work on other things.
I made a lot of progress this week on the blocks for the guild challenge quilt.
ugc blocks 2Once I piece a few more blocks I’ll start working up the layout. Whether or not I make more blocks depends on how it looks.
Linking up to Elm Street Quilts for my OMG.

December 2019 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

I finished one project on the list last month. I debated adding a fifth category, Mindless Piecing, but decided against it. I can only focus on a couple projects at a time and make decent progress. Adding a fifth category wouldn’t have served a purpose. I’ll have to work mindless piecing into the other categories.
The Short List includes something old (UFO), something new, a handwork project, and creative play/design. I started using this system in November 2014 to keep myself focused. I add and delete categories as my interests change.

November 2019 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

The list gets a complete overhaul this month. I finished the Holly Runner and the pillowcases in October. I also started and finished Pineapple Punch, although it wasn’t on the list. I did enough work on the bear blocks to figure out I needed a new plan that fit the style of the blocks. I also want to add a mindless sewing project.
