RAK from From the Strawberry Patch...

R.A.K.= Random Acts of Kindness-- they're alive and well, and they're happening all around us. It's especially heartwarming to reflect on these today. Specifically, this one pictured. A few months ago I received an email from an unknown (to me!) lady in Texas, she had seen my blog post from almost a year ago showing some thread-catchers that I made with a link in the post to the source.

International Women's Day – 4 Women I Admire from Where Art & Life Meet

In honor of International Women’s Day I am featuring four women in my life, who have influenced me the most. All four of these women are exceptional and I am deeply grateful to each of them. The first – my grandmother, who, though I did not always have an easy relationship with, I greatly admired… Continue reading International Women's Day – 4 Women I Admire

Looking back, preparing to look forward from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

To See Such Fun

We're in a new year it seems, so it's time to look back. I'll look forward in a day or so, but I need time to process last year. So much has happened, two new babies in the family, the loss of Richard's dad, my hospital stay and surgery.

Another Red Feather from Red Is a Neutral challenge

Still, as it turns out, I've been quite busy in my little world.

Busy with what, you might be asking yourself (because I did set myself up for that question ...

Warm Wishes: Colour & Inspiration Tuesday from Clever Chameleon

Christmas Star colour board at Clever Chameleon

The Christmas Season is Heating Up!

The tree is up, presents are bought, plans are mostly laid. The weather outside is variable; this week it is stinking hot, until it’s not. It’s going to be 44C by Friday. For those of you not familiar with Celcius to Farenheit, 44C is about 111F. Then Saturday will have a maximum of 25C….. that will be one heck of a cool change when it blows through. It’s starting to feel a lot like Christmas!

weather forecast

Although 44C is not the hottest we’ve ever had (46.6C in Jan 2019), it ...

Happy Thanksgiving!! from From My Carolina Home

The best day of the year is tomorrow, so today I’ll be doing some prep cooking and baking some Rustic Egg Bread.  I get really excited about Thanksgiving, planning a great meal and having fun making dishes from scratch, setting a pretty table and enjoying the day.  See my post from 2014 for lots of pictures and a bit of history on the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and a story about the making of the movie Miracle on 34th Street.

Happy 9th Blog Anniversary and Timeline of Events from Busy Hands Quilts

Today is Busy Hands Quilts' 9th Blogiversary!  It's wonderful to look back and see how far my quilting has come in nine years.

I began the blog on October 28th, 2010.  My husband had been out of work since February of that year, and my medical transcription job ended at the end of October.  Voice recognition software was changing the field of medical transcription and eliminating transcription jobs in spades.  I worked at home and made great money because of my fast fingers.  While I was ready to be done transcribing, it was a huge deal to lose such ...

On Change from The Stitching Pixie: Quilt Love

Change. It's always difficult.

A few people I know seem to be having unexpected things happening in their lives right now, forcing change upon them whether they like it or not.

Storm Clouds

Let me tell you a little story about change as I see it:

We had a car, which we loved- quite irrationally as it was an inanimate object, but it was reliable, comfortable, it drove smoothly, it was classy. We thought it was very 'us'. We felt loyal to it. It served us really well, especially when we stuffed it as full as we could and ...
