41 Years Ago Today from Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's a red letter day at the Three Cats Ranch. Please join me in wishing a very happy 41st birthday to this handsome young man.

Matthew is my youngest, but don't let his age fool you into thinking I'm old. See, I have a strategy for staying young. When I reached the age of 50, I started counting backwards. At this point, I'm just 30, and so it's something of a miracle to have a child older than I am. Yeah. That's my story.

A couple of years ago, his ...

Don't Be Fooled from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and welcome to April Fool's Day. Be very careful today, my friends. There are pranksters around every corner. I, myself, am guarding against any pranksters at the grocery store who will try to make me believe grocery prices have come down. Yeah, and eggs are 10 cents a piece. And I didn't just fall off the turnip truck, so there's that. Okay then. Having established all of that, it's probably safe to go grocery shopping. I'm no fool. (Looks over her shoulder to see if anyone is laughing and pointing.)

It ...

Lackluster Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I moved through the day like a zombie yesterday...not that I felt dead, but I tried to bore myself to death. It took me half the day just to get off the couch, and then I completely forgot to do my assigned housekeeping chores. And it got so late in the day that I decided not to walk on the treadmill. Some days are like that, I guess.

On the must-do list, however, were these Lemon-Blueberry Muffin Cookies. I'm linking to the recipe there, but that in no way indicates a recommendation from me ...

Four Projects from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a busy day in my sewing room yesterday. Progress was made on four projects. First off, I finished quilting the right side of Jericho Walls, including the row of setting triangles.

Now I've rotated the quilt 180° where there are two more rows of blocks and another row of setting triangles. If all goes as expected, I should be ready to quilt the outer border by Wednesday.

Next, I traced out two more blocks for Raggedy & Friends.

That would have been the day's quota, but I had a piece of fabric just ...

Blue Denim Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I'd say it's a Red Letter Day, but Blue Denim Day fits better. I'm happy to say I found some jeans I could live with...or live in, depending on how you think about it. Several of you mentioned the Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda style jeans. I shopped at Kohl's (since that seems to be the only store that caters to women of my, um, maturity these days). They had racks and shelves of Amanda jeans. I was looking for a darker denim, figuring they haven't been pre-washed as much. (Isn't ...

Safe and Sound from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Well, our big scary storm turned into a big nothing burger yesterday evening. We got some rain, but barely any wind, and no tornados nor monster hail. (I think our northern neighbors in Washington got the worst of it.) The sky grew dark around dinner time. Interestingly, I could see a rainbow, even though we'd only seen a few sprinkles of rain. You can see it in the lower half of the image below.

Looking to my left, I noticed the flowers on the star magnolia had opened some, and so I ran out for ...

Storm Warning from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We had a lovely day yesterday. Our temperatures made it into the 70's. I'm not sure if that's the first time this year, but it was welcome either way. We had some errands to run in town, but of course, nothing could happen until I took the first stitches on my latest embroidery project. This is the 9th of 12 blocks for Grandpa's Bridges.

When my stitching time was finished, we headed into town to run some errands. With such nice weather, the kitties were champing at the bit to get outside ...

Misty Morning from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. There was just a hint of fog when we opened the curtains this morning. And, honestly, for all I complain about the squirrels, it still makes me smile when I look outside and see one or more of them surveying the landscape. No doubt he's looking around for some mischief to get into.

First on my list yesterday was to get started stitching the next names and places for the Shop Hop quilt blocks. I was able to finish both of them.

From there, I took a walk on the treadmill, and then went to ...

All About the Slow from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Welcome to Monday and the start of a new week. My day was all about slow stitching yesterday. Stitching and preparing for stitching. At the top of my list was to hand-stitch the binding for the Easter Egg table runner, and that's finished now.

It was easier to see the quilting with the light from our living room windows. Here's how it looks from the back.

With the help of my excellent stitching cat, I was able to sit and stitch the whole binding in a single sitting.

And, while I love the bunnies ...

Fresh Start from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a good day of sewing yesterday. I was able to finish off the Circus piece. It just needs the binding hand-sewn now. Today's sewing will probably be mostly hand-sewing, although I'm going to make good on my threat to sew the Kittens blocks into a finished quilt top.

There still is no plan for these. I've been mulling it over, and I have a couple of ideas. We'll all just have to wait and see what my hands do with them. It's unlikely that I can finish it today ...

In a Bind from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's a second Valentine's Day here. Mike and I have an evening out tonight to celebrate Friday's Valentine's Day. There's a special three-course meal at one of our favorite restaurants in downtown Portland. We wanted to avoid the Friday night holiday crowd, and so we waited until tonight for our celebratory dinner. I'm glad because I doubt we could have gotten out of our driveway on Friday. Tonight, it'll be smooth sailing...but no sailing...and no slipping, just because it's smooth. Sailing and slipping are to be ...
