Salt and Sand Blog Hop from Stitchin at Home

Starfish or more accurately Seastars were my inspiration for my project in the Salt and Sand Blog hop, organized by Carla at Creatin’ in the Sticks
My starfish is hanging around in the rocks, usually, it's in my bathroom.

Did you know that all starfish resemble stars, the most common only have five arms, although some of them can grow up to 40 arms?  Interested in reading more fun facts about Starfish check this out.

Thread selection, not all of these made the cut

I drew out the shape of the starfish and traced it onto my fabric with ...

Project Quilting 12.6 Ab Intra from Stitchin at Home

Up until this morning, I was not going to do this challenge. This week's challenge is Ab Intra, or "from within." At first glance, I think the theme is a little intimidating and I have too many raw emotions to contemplate putting them into this.

But, you know there is always a but somewhere. While having a coffee this morning I thought of this challenge and how we as quilters give freely and put our heart into all we do. We are all stars!

So the challenge started at 7:27 AM, nothing like the last minute to do ...

My Crazy Tulip Patch from Stitchin at Home

This week's Project QUILTING challenge is You're Crazy, which is inspired by the late 1800s “crazy quilt” movement.

I am not into crazy quilting at all. Plus a couple years ago I cleaned out fabric that I was no longer interested in ie: velvet. So my take on the crazy quilting challenge has a more modern feel to it.
I first made a small crazy patch using my scraps of quilting cotton.

my rotrary cutting mat is not in the best of shape as you can see in this picture, this is my second one and I will ...

Stripes Blog Hop from Stitchin at Home

Thanks to Carla at Creatin’ in the Sticks for organizing 'Show Your Stripes' blog hop. We were asked to create something that had stripes in it. The stripes could be fabric stripes or striped fabric. Let the ideas flow. Stash using time, here I come.

These have only been in my stash since maybe 2014

I had a meter of each of these Northcott stripe prints, at least they look like stripes to me. Now I needed a pattern. I played in EQ8 and decided on this simple block.

I like this block with a little turquoise and pink going ...

Virtual Vacation from Stitchin at Home

Time for Challenge 3 of Project Quilting 12. This time we are to we were to sew up a dream vacation in the future or maybe a memory from a past vacation or maybe build a bag. The project choice was ours to decide.

My dream vacation is simple. I'm trying to look forward to clear skies and sunny days with and have no destination in mind at this time. Just as long as the sun is shining that is all I need.
The world has been in turmoil with Covid-19 holding all our lives in its grasp.

I ...

Daisy from Stitchin at Home

Challenge 2 of Project QUILTING Season 12 is fussy cutting. I am going to try and make a placemat for each challenge, whether or not I'll be successful depends on what the challenge is. Time will tell if I succeed or not. The second goal I set for myself is to use fabrics from my stash/older fabrics.

Let's see how I do with this challenge and my goals. My favourite block is a star block, so that was the starting point. The fabric I choose to fussy cut was an Anna Griffin from 2013, yup time this ...

Shattered Heart from Stitchin at Home

In Ontario, where I live, we are in a lockdown situation to try to curb the numbers of Covid cases. Ontario Declares Second Provincial Emergency to Address COVID-19 Crisis and Save Lives. These lockdowns are hard for a person living alone. I have been trying to do more walking to keep myself active. I have also been slowly getting back into quilting. The blog hops I have been in recently have helped, I think my mojo may be returning.

Now let's get to the 'Hearts on Fire' blog hop, hosted by Carol of Just Let me Quilt. The rules ...

A Touch of Yellow from Stitchin at Home

Challenge 1 of Project QUILTING Season 12. The first challenge is Illuminating + Ultimate Gray, make a  finished project, any size, using yellow & gray, and post by January 10. My project is a placemat I call 'A Touch of Yellow'. I pulled the fabric for this one from my scraps, yellow is not overly abundant in my stash or scraps, thus I only have a touch of it in my placemat.

The colours are a little off as we have had a lack of sunshine lately.

I used up all of the print fabric I had, I received it from another ...

Hello Fall! A Blog Hop from Stitchin at Home

Today is my turn in the 'Hello Fall Blog Hop'. Thanks to, Carla from Creatin' in the Sticks, for this great idea.

I was in Northern Ontario this past weekend at my son's, as you can see in the photo below the leaves are just starting to change. I love fall with its beautiful colours and with the weather changing to cooler temps it's time to start thinking of curling up under a quilt and reading a book or even binge watching Netflix.

a little inspiration

I had a project in mind with a bit of a Canadian ...

Creativity and Hope from Stitchin at Home

Creativity, the process of making something new. Hope, a feeling of expectation and a desire for certain things to happen.
I hope that we will return to normal or a near normal life.
Usually I'm busy preparing to have my family together for Easter. With 'Stay at Home' orders we will connect via phone calls or messaging. It will be different but necessary to help stop the spread. My oldest grandson Tyler sends random messages, they help to brighten my day. What I miss most are the little things like walking into a store to pick up one or ...

Project Quilting Final Project 11.6 from Stitchin at Home

I have been feeling a little unfocused these past few days, I know I'm not alone in that. I find when I'm sewing or quilting I can forget about those feelings for awhile. I'm in my happy place then.

Vibrant and Vivacious was the challenge hosted by Kim of Persimmon Dreams. I drew up a couple different ideas in EQ8. I knew I wanted to make this final project for a child at Ronald MacDonald house. What child doesn't like colour, and bright colours even more.

colour pops in dresden blades
I finally settled on a ...

Give it Away Challenge from Stitchin at Home

Time for number 5 of  Project Quilting hosted by Kim of Persimon Dreams.
Kim thinks that 'quilters are a generous lot' and that we give from the heart without thinking of financial reward when we give.
The purpose for this challenge is simple 'Give it Away'. Whether to another person an organization or charity. I knew instantly who was going to be the recipent of my project.

If you read my post from Put a Heart on it  you know I had a friend who was in hospice. She has since passed away I am also friends with her older ...

Birds in the Air x 4 from Stitchin at Home

Project Quilting 11.4 challenge is to use the 'Birds in the Air' block.  It’s two sizes of triangles, combined for a square block you must either use or reinterpret this traditional block. I did indeed reinterpret the block and it meets the requirements of two sizes of triangles. I used four blocks in my table topper.

I was short on time and only started making the topper yesterday at 9:30 AM. I just finished binding it this morning. I don't think I have ever made anything this fast before. Not bad considering I wasn't sure ...

Colour it Red My Day from Stitchin at Home

The rules for the theme for this months "Color It Red" blog hop, hosted by Carol of Just Let Me Quilt were simple it had to have red in it somewhere.

Mine does but, life happens and I didn't get my project finished. Not all is lost as I do have some photos.

under the ruler toe foot

It's about time I use up some of my stash. I am working on a new pattern and using some pieces from my stash to make it.
The red print was from Kona Bay fabrics which I purchased a yard ...
