Guild BOM 2019 from Stitchin at Home

It's one of my favourite seasons 'guild season'. My guild had there first meeting of the year on Monday Sept 9th. I look forward to catching up with fellow members and seeing what they've made over the summer.
It is also the time I introduce the new BOM for the year, this is the fifth year I have designed the BOM. My guild is more traditional than modern and as such more members join in making the BOM if it is a more traditional setting.

This years quilt I made in my favourite colour...green. I ...

Diamonds are The Best from Stitchin at Home

Welcome to my day to participate in the Be a Diamond Blog Hop, hosted by Carol at Just Let Me Quilt. The goal in this hop was to create a "diamond" project.

Diamonds are a girl's best friend, as my birthstone is diamond I totally agree with that statement. Whether diamonds are a member of the precious stone family, a song or made from fabric they are the best IMHO. My project may not officially be a "diamond",  however the squares on point do give the impression of diamonds.

a fun novelty print
I used an animal print that ...

Hearted Beauties Release from Stitchin at Home

I have always wanted to make a New York Beauty Quilt. Whenever I spy one whether it's at a quilt show or on the net, they catch my eye.

'Hearted Beauties' is what happened after I played with designing my own New York Beauty blocks in a heart shape. Why a heart shape? Because I thought it might be neat to see what they looked like. Of course those hearts needed a setting and a quilt pattern was born.

Hearted Beauties

The Heart blocks are paper pieced, the rest of the quilt uses traditional piecing.

The quilt back shows ...

Animal Quilt Finish from Stitchin at Home

In October I started a quilt for my 4 year old grandson. His favourite colour is blue and he wanted animals. Now I ask you what grandma doesn't want to give a grandchild what they want. You can read more about the start here.

donkey from Lorna
The donkey is a pattern from Lorna of Sew Fresh quilts. All the patterns in the quilt are from Lorna, her Farm Friends Pattern and some of her free patterns.

I drew up a quick diagram in my graphics program to show how I joined the blocks

An Oldie Throwback Thursday from Stitchin at Home

For throwback Thursday which is being hosted by Sandra of mmmquilts, I pulled an oldie. I made this either in 1999 or 2000, no label as at that time I had no idea how important a label was and the information that could be garnered from one.

first paper piecing project

This was my first foray into paper piecing. I remember that Carol Doak was the queen of paper piecing at the time. I was surprised that I still had the book that this one came from. There were a lot of firsts in this one including machine quilting.

Just Free Motioning from Stitchin at Home

When writing my last pattern 'Squared Off' you can read about it here or if you want to make one you can purchase a copy at my Craftsy store. I made a couple test blocks trying out a couple different techniques for making the block. Grabbed the rest of the scraps I was using plus, and made a couple more blocks.
