Wet and Wild from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Yeesh. It rained the whole live-long day yesterday. By day's end, we'd accumulated a full inch. We're expecting more of the same today. We're told today's weather will bring us less rain, but more wind. Fingers crossed we don't lose power. This is typical weather in our area in October. We generally get a big wind storm around Columbus Day. Historically, a big wind storm did a lot of damage in Portland in 1962, and it's still referred to as the Columbus Day Storm. We've had a pretty ...

Four Projects from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a busy day yesterday. I tried putting off the to-do's on my list, but I ended up doing everything. There was still time for plenty of sewing. My day started with a Bowflex workout...the first one in two weeks. I don't notice any problems with my shoulder. You might remember I had to take a break because of a muscle spasm. It seems completely gone now, and so I can resume my workouts. Also, I had some housekeeping chores on my list.

Of course, nothing happens here until I've done ...

Percolating from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's dark and foggy this morning, just as it was yesterday morning. It ooks as if we're into this gray world for another couple of days. We should have planted our daffodils last week when the sun was still shining. I'll tell you this: it makes Smitty very unhappy. He'd be out hunting small mammals. Instead, he's relegated to the woodbox sheltered by the eaves.

Oh well. There's only one thing to do...help mom with her slow-stitching. The flannel quilt feels better than the rain.

With his help, I ...

Sewing Before Quilting from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Before I could do anything else yesterday morning, I had to fix that dratted block for the Kittens in Teacups quilt. It was bothering me even though we were in separate rooms.

Phew! I feel better now, don't you?

Okay, and so then and only then, I could do some work on my slow stitching. I stitched my usual amount of floss.

And then, I decided to move my hoop to the right to encompass the rest of the opening to the bridge. Where so many lines intersect, I like to do all the lines ...

Turn on those Sad Songs from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was the worst possible morning in cat land. It was raining...hard...and Smitty was relegated to the sheltered part of his catio.

The whole of the catio has a roof, but with the rain coming down so hard, he must have felt as if he needed even more cover.

Sadie was completely disgusted. How could we present them with such a terrible day of weather?

My morning was spent finishing off Block 7 of the Raggedy & Friends project. I'll set this aside until I'm ready to piece together the block.

There were ...

Dinner Cruise from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was kind of a lazy day yesterday. I'd awakened too early in the morning, and my eyes felt bleary. Despite my effort to go back to bed when my morning tasks were finished, I'd had too much coffee and couldn't get back to sleep. Happily, I was able to get in a short nap after lunch, and I felt better. I think I was just keyed up thinking about our impending dinner cruise. I had some cooking to do in the morning.

As you know, nothing can happen until I've done ...

Making Progress from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. The promised rain has finally arrived. With a few breaks, it's been raining fairly steadily for hours. It started while we were asleep, and now it's beginning to look like a typical Oregon winter. Of course, winter is not even close, but we're getting a glimpse into the future today.

Thankfully, I was able to get out and do some weeding yesterday. I pulled up or "mussed up" some of the smaller weeds, and then whacked back my enormous sage plant to about one-third its size. I love the fresh sage, but the ...

Snowmen in September from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. I gave myself an easy day yesterday. There were a few small tasks to take care of, and I did a Bowflex workout. Also, I pureed the watermelon given to us by our CSA farmers. I'll make some watermelon sorbet from that later today. I've made sorbet from all kinds of fruit, but watermelon is my favorite.

Since I was taking a lazy day, I didn't make it into the sewing room until late in the day. Smitty was my helper cat.

As a reminder, my goal was to make this block...the ...

Yes, We Have No Tomatoes from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. The great tomato extravacanza has come to an end. Since I did no canning last year, the empty jars have been stacking up to an alarming height. It was good to put some of them back to work. When all was finished, there were 10-1/2 quarts of tomato sauce and 7 pints of salsa. That should hold us for a while.

While I was waiting for those last jars to process, I was able to finish up the stitching on the Sashiko piece. Here's your peek. Any guesses?

Now I need to decide how ...

Itching to Stitch from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It wasn't terribly warm yesterday, but the humidity was high, making it feel warmer than it actually was. Smitty was outside for quite a while. When he came in, he fell over in a dead heap to cool his tummy furs on the wood floor.

My day started with a Bowflex workout. I backed off by half on all the weight I'd achieved before we left for Alaska. Some of the weight seemed ridiculously light, but I had no sore muscles at the end of the day. Even my knee was feeling good. I ...
