A Beary Small Start from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Before I sat down here, I needed to top off my coffee cup. I have a lot to tell you today. It's going to require a full cup. Since yesterday was the reveal of my Tula-Tu quilt, I'm a day behind on the usual goings-on here at the Three Cats Ranch. By all means, everything that happens every minute of every day must be fully documented. I'm sure you understand.

First, thank you to the many of you who left such kind comments about Tula-Tu. If you missed her, you can read the ...

Bear Family from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's the last day of April. All along I've been thinking something along the lines of "When May arrives, then we'll have to get serious about..." And here it is. Time to get serious about our trip. As I'm writing, Mike is downstairs working with a small Canon printer I used when we made our trip around the USA Perimeter in 2017. I'm trying to think of a good comparison for size, but nothing is coming to me. Let's just say it's about the size of the average hardback ...

An Everything Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and Happy Easter! When I woke up yesterday morning, I felt very much refreshed after taking it easy for a couple of days. Sewturday is the day I've given myself during the week in which I am guaranteed nothing but sewing. But it was a pretty day yesterday, and so I ended up doing a little of everything.

Anne Lamott wrote a piece for the Washington Post recently about being born "for times like these." She and I are approximately the same age. She says in the piece that she's 71, and I am ...

Free Day Friday from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It seems I needed a day off from sewing yesterday. It was such a pretty day, and I didn't want to spend the afternoon in my windowless basement sewing room. There was some time for slow-stitching in the morning. These Le Jardin blocks are small, but they take more time to stitch than expected.

After that, I decided to enjoy the sunshine, and I headed out for a walk to the top of our hill. As I walked down our driveway, I noticed a wild cherry tree in bloom. It makes small cherries. Since we ...

A Little Finish from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's another day of beautiful weather here at the Three Cats Ranch. We're expecting good weather through the weekend, and it has been whole-heartedly welcome by us rain-drenched Oregonians. When I finished my slow-stitching yesterday, I took a walk around the house to see what's new.

A squirrel was there to welcome me. S/he looks as if s/he's cold.

Just behind him/her, I noticed the bleeding heart is blooming. It has lots more flowers coming.

Smitty accompanied me on my walk. He checked for any buds on the poppies ...

Cooking and Sewing from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's another beautiful day today. I was able to get out early yesterday for some pictures.

The cherry trees are in full bloom right now, although the Bing (on the right) has a little catching up to do. The Black Tartarian (on the left) is beautiful right now.

The mason bees are hard at work. We don't see a lot of honeybees, but the mason bees are plentiful.

The blueberries are sprouting some flower buds. We planted these several years back. We still don't get enough blueberries to do much with them beyond ...

Storm Warning from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We had a lovely day yesterday. Our temperatures made it into the 70's. I'm not sure if that's the first time this year, but it was welcome either way. We had some errands to run in town, but of course, nothing could happen until I took the first stitches on my latest embroidery project. This is the 9th of 12 blocks for Grandpa's Bridges.

When my stitching time was finished, we headed into town to run some errands. With such nice weather, the kitties were champing at the bit to get outside ...

A Little Bit of Sewing from ... Cat Patches

Good morning my friends. Did you remember to spring forward? We have a clock that displays the time on our ceiling. When I opened my eyes this morning, I was surprised at how late I'd slept. And then I realized the clock had done the work of springing ahead. Actually, it was my usual getting up time, but the clock was already up and at 'em.

After finishing yesterday's post, I found myself in dire need of a nap. I'm not sure why I was so tired, but I'm chalking it up to a busy week ...

Water Woes from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It started as an ordinary day...playing word games, checking email, perusing the news to see if the United States is at war with Europe yet. (Just kidding about that last part...sort of.) When I'd had my coffee, I asked Mike if he'd like breakfast first or if I should write my blog post first. He opted for breakfast. And everything was going along fine until I went to wash out the bowl emptied of pancake batter (pancakes on the griddle by then). When I turned the faucet on...nothing. Not a dribble ...

Sunny Skies from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's another sunny day here at the Three Cats Ranch. It's starting to feel like spring. Today, I'll probably get out and do a little weeding. The annoying hairy bittercress is popping up everywhere, and I want to pull it up before it goes to seed. But I'm getting ahead of myself already. Let's just back up to the pretty day we had here yesterday.

Of course, no morning is complete without a little slow-stitching. As expected, I finished March's block for A Year in the Garden. With March arriving ...
