And Another Christmas Table Runner from The Quilt Yarn

Finished my second Christmas table runner displayed here as a festive wall hanging (easier to photograph that way).

Had some fun with this...tried out Aurifil Monofilament thread to do all the outlining and ditching for this one. Worked well, but I must say that I find Aurifil Monofilament thread slightly more finicky than the Superior Monopoly thread. It's just so fine and very hard to see. A couple of times I felt as if I was stitching literally completely blind.
Looks very nice though as it is literally invisible.

Also did a pieced backing for this one as ...

Gingerbread House Table Runner from The Quilt Yarn

Finally finished my Christmas table runner listing for my Etsy shop.

The table runner measures 16-1/2in x 34-1/2in with just three stars, but I have also given the option of making it with four stars. Was easy to make and comes together very quickly. Took me a weekend to construct and another few days to quilt in the ditch around the seams. The hold up was writing it up and deciding to include another size. It got done though and now I am back to finishing off my snowman table runners.

Also a bit of bragging which does ...

Quilted Nursery Panel Baby Quilt In ETSY shop from The Quilt Yarn

New listing in my Etsy shop:

Cute little nursery panel quilt that I quilted the other day with an allover cloud design.

The nursery panel used in this quilt is a cute jungle themed panel from the 'World of Susybee' for Hamil Textiles. It makes an ideal baby shower gift that can be used as a small 'drag along' blanket, playtime floor mat or as nursery wall decor.

The quilt measures 33-5/8in x 39 -3/4in and has a nice soft consistency due to its 100% wool batting.

Have one more panel to go in my efforts to clean ...

Dancing Daylilies from Sew Preeti Quilts

The story of this quilt began in September 2019.

Dancing Daylilies 70" by 90"

It was the long weekend of Labor Day and I was playing with scraps... Moda Scrap Bag scraps, to be precise. The fabric is by Corey Yoder.

Scraps from Moda Scrap Bag

Just piecing strips and making large blocks. I ended up with a flimsy of 50" square. Good enough for a large baby quilt. I set it aside and worked on quilts for the Socorro Foundation

Almost Flimsy

In October 2019, I traveled to India. I was tasked to convey a care package to Meetu ...

Island Batik July Challenge - The Holly Family from Sew Preeti Quilts

The Island Batik Challenge for July urged us to get an early start on Christmas and other end of the year holiday projects!

In my first Island Batik Ambassador Box, I had received a strip set of Holly Holiday fabric, designed by Kathy Engle. With deep red/dark green colors and reindeer/pine shaped trees it screams Christmas. Naturally I set it aside for the July challenge.

Holly Holiday Strips

I chose to make a tree skirt.

We have a small Christmas tree and some years we even put it up, when we are not traveling. If I make ...

New Listing in Etsy Shop from The Quilt Yarn

Just listed another handmade quilt in my Etsy shop. The pattern for this rather colourful and bold quilt is already up in the shop, however I now decided to let the quilt go. I rather like this is so bold and cheerful and I think it would make an ideal playroom floor quilt or a 'drag along' comforter blanket for a baby or toddler.

The quilt measures 36 1/2in x 45 1/2in.
It is made off 100% tone-on-tone cotton prints, constructed with coordinating cotton thread and quilted in a variegated Superior Fantastico Polyester thread. The batting ...

New Pattern in ETSY Shop from The Quilt Yarn

Finished the write up of the table runner pattern for my Etsy shop. This is a variation of the traditional Maple Leaf block which gives the appearance of leaves gently falling to the ground. Turned out really nice in the autumn colours of Shannon Brinkley's Dryad fabric range.

The table runner measures 18-1/2in x 48-1/2in and is quilted with an overall woodgrain design. I used cotton battting so the quilting made it come out nice and flat, perfect for the dining table or as a wall hanging.

New Pattern Coming Up from The Quilt Yarn

This is going to be my new pattern...a quilt that you can literally construct in a day! While it looks simple it does require being able to work with partial seams, so hopefully I will be able to get my diagrams right so that people can follow this. Otherwise it is obviously super simple and quick to come together. It reminds me of the colourful wooden blocks that the kids used to play with.

I do seem to like bright colours...did not think twice about putting all those bright screaming colours together. Maybe because the last quilt I ...

New Listing In Etsy Shop from The Quilt Yarn

Finally finished that little pastel quilt and put it up as a new listing in my Etsy shop.

The colouring of this quilt was an absolute bugger to photograph...spent hours on that!

The quilt measures 35-3/4in x 44-1/2in and came out nice and soft. I used Minijumbuk Nu-Wool wadding which is 60%wool and 40%polyester. The overall line design was just right for it, giving it a soft, cuddly feel.

Now it's on to the next pattern which is already waiting for me.

New Handmade Quilt in my Etsy Shop from The Quilt Yarn

Nearly forgot to show you my new listing for a handmade quilt. Besides patterns I do offer a few select quilts as I just have too many of them.

Lucky for me I am not attached to most quilts...once they are done, it's onto the next project, the next idea, the next challenge and that is how they accumulate.

This quilt is both hand- and machine stitched. The center consists of 99, 2in hexagons, sewn together using the English Paper Piecing method. It is 41.5in x 45.25in and has a lovely feel to it. I did ...

The Importance of a To Do List from Where Art & Life Meet

Another video, thanks to my mother, which requires no introduction. Just watch. In other news, I slept in this morning. I woke up as usual at 5:30am, looked at the clock, thought about all the things I need to… Continue reading The Importance of a To Do List

Cross-Stitch Reveals from Road Home Quilting

I got carried away writing the colonial cross stitch sampler. So now I am charting the entire

Barn Block Alphabet.

I can't resist! It is so fun- I hope you like them too.

These are worked in 40 rows, suitable for a 4" frame, coaster or sachet door hanger. If you use a smaller Aida, you can set them in rows for a cross-stitch sampler quilt :)

And, I'm matching the DMC thread to the original Barn Block Alphabet colors, so your cross-stitch will match your Society6 Barn Blocks and Spoonflower fabrics.

RHQ cross-stitch charts are available as PDF ...

Colonial Sampler Reveal from Road Home Quilting

I've been planning this all year.

I started by studying colonial samplers in museum catalogs, and sewing books like this one:

Shop all of our recommended sewing books, <-------- link by the orange coffee badge in the left sidebar.

I learned that historic samplers combined lots of embroidery styles. Whereas today, we focus on one at a time.  I learned that hardanger is way cool, and a precursor to modern samplers. Sampler books of hardanger and lace were made as catalogs of a seamstress' talents for hire. It was the Colonial Era that turned samplers into lesson books for school ...

Memories of my Father & Designing from Where Art & Life Meet

My father was born and raised in Paris. And though he was Swiss, his first language was French. When he moved to the United States, he brought with him his preference for all things Swiss, he claimed the products produced there were far superior, and his love of the French language. So he would have… Continue reading Memories of my Father & Designing

Remember when we used to make collections on Etsy, what was that called?
Oh yeah, Treasury!
Trying to finish my consignment cat pattern has sent me to Etsy for birthday shopping; because I won't have time to make gifts for the 3 upcoming birthdays in my family, not to mention Mother's Day and Graduation, Teacher Appreciation Week......arg!

But as usual, I have discovered far more treasures than I can ever buy, so I'm taking a moment to share the top ten here with you.  And hopefully I will return soon to share an awesome cat quilt ...
