Christmas in July Sewing / Going Through Stash from Grandma's Red Needle

Well, not much 'Christmas in July' sewing has happened since this post. However, some already prepped dog and cat mug rugs have been quilted, that's all.

I got sucked into decluttering accumulated fabrics and other crafts.

Some of the jeans will be donated and some are cut into useable pieces. I'm not going to use the most worn areas, and I see there are some spots too that won't be used. I will get to that eventually.

My goodness, jeans take up a lot of space!

Forgotten Treasure Boxes - Decluttering from Grandma's Red Needle

The last week I've been going through my fabric/craft stash/wardrobe.

Particularly one big box mostly containing fabrics not suitable for quilting. The box once contained a 21" bulky television, was filled to the brim with stuff! I don't remember how many years it has taken up space at the bottom of the wardrobe. Every time it annoyed me, I postponed doing anything to it, until beginning this week!

Most of the fabrics were cotton mix, pieces from curtains and other things I've made, old jeans, flannel etc.

a decluttering story . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Do you remember when you first started quilting (or any craft, for that matter), and all the tools and gadgets that seemed so necessary were overwhelming in both the scope and the cost of it all?

I do.

The biggest for me was the rulers and squares. They make such a difference in cutting pieces accurately! And while you can get away with a few select sizes, it's just easier to have the range. Mission: Organization from Appalachian Quilts

We have now lived here for a little over 5 years. We still have not unpacked everything. We still haven't finished remodeling - that's the 'excuse' albeit a valid one. The house we moved from was over 6,000 s.f. This house is a little over 1,800 s.f. While we did get rid of a lot of "stuff", we still had a lot of "stuff". A Blessing And A Curse from Wedding Dress Blue

About two-and-one-half years ago my sewing room got a major facelift in the form of a cutting table. YAY! So many years of cutting on the floor were over.

But, the curse part is that it created space to shove stuff. A LOT of stuff.

So, it all came out.

A really big pile went to live elsewhere.

The batting pieces were even made into Franken-batting and given a storage space.

And it is all back.

The top of the table is still a bit of a mess, but that can wait until tomorrow…
