Katie Strachan Embroidery from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

If you’ve never seen Katie Strachan’s embroidery, please go to her website and look at those photos of her work. Brenda from Brenda & The Serial Starter mentioned Katie’s Elizabethan Valentine Heart kit/class and that’s how I found Katie. Most of what she has shown isn’t something I would do – I know I could...

Learning to Crochet from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

Thursday Addie and I had this conversation: Addie: Granny, would you make a frog hat for my friend and one for me too?Me: No. You’re 10 years old. You can learn to crochet and make your own frog hat.Addie: What if I clean your sewing room and you can pay me AND make me a...

Grandparenting from Needle and Foot

The last couple of days were such a blast. We have been wanting to have just one of our grand daughters over for a couple of days. Ray and I thought it would be fun to see what it would be like to have just one all to ourselves. Because H has kindergarten it worked best to have A over. I went and spent a night at their house and then brought her home with me the following day. (H will have her turn over one of the holiday breaks in November or December.)

We weren’t sure how this ...

New Toy in the Toy Room from Needle and Foot

If you are around my age, you might remember Betsy McCall. This cute paper doll was printed in McCall’s Magazine beginning in the early 1950’s. I am unsure how long the doll was included in the magazine but I did read that Barbie took over in popularity pushing poor Betsy aside. I remember cutting out the dolls and her clothes though. As kids, my sisters and I also enjoyed these booklets made of heavier paper with dolls and their clothing printed in them. I think the printings were perforated so it was easier to ‘cut’ them out.

Betsy ...

Change of quilts and craft fair... from ~ CowgirlQuilter ~

I finally changed out my quilt behind the sofa to my Witch Hat quilt.

I thought it would be cute to display it until Halloween.

I also hung this wallhanging.

I also got the Denver Bronco rag quilt finished and delivered it along with the Dallas Cowboy rag quilt that I did a few weeks ago.  The customer was pleased and wants 2 more soon!

I had my craft fair today (Saturday).  It went well!  It was a small local event but pleased with the outcome.  I have another one coming up in a few weeks.  Here are some pics ...

Sampler September Accomplishments from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

You would think I would learn but I always think I can get so much more done than I actually get done. It isn’t just with cross stitching but with everything I do. I fully expected that I would finish A Sampler For All Seasons and I could have had I not stopped to work...

Love is the Key – More Progress from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

I was going to press this after finishing the center flower so I could get a good picture but I’ve heard that pressing too much flattens the stitches so, since I was going to keep on stitching, I didn’t press it. There’s a good bit more to the pot but that flower is so beautiful...

Curvy Seven Sisters from Quilt Obsession

I know, I know – it has been a very long time since I blogged. I don’t even want to think about how long it has been. Lots has been going on, but I just haven’t blogged. I’m going to try, once again, to get back to blogging on a somewhat regular basis.

At Christmas a friend gave me a huge set of markers and an adult colouring book. I was hooked immediately! Since then I’ve progressed to coloured pencils and have found that I’m drawn mostly to colouring books that involve floral designs. Big surprise ...

Summer Squirrels are Happening from Needle and Foot

Happy 4th everyone! It sure doesn’t feel like July here. We are having a bout of unseasonably cool weather and the high for today is only supposed to be 69 degrees (about 20 degrees C). We are heading to my sister’s house for a BBQ but it won’t be very warm out!

Whenever I am ‘supposed’ to be working on something it seems like everything but that project appeals to me. Why does this happen? I should be working on piecing the blocks for the 2022 Positivity QAL. I have the pieces cut and I did get ...

Skinny Pillows from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

Sheri from Colorado Cross Stitcher mentioned skinny pillows from Under the Woolen Willow and I’ve ordered several. I knew they had a book out, Skinny Pillows, which I had been meaning to order but didn’t, til Sheri mentioned it on her latest Flosstube. Under the Woolen Willow also sells “tops” for making the pillows. They’re...

A Week’s Worth of Daily Life from Needle and Foot

Life in Washington continues to be more comfortable. Over the past week it seems like a lot has been going on both with me as well as my kids. I got a bedroom in the house painted, did a little crafting, and some sewing. My kids – well, their idea of daily lives differ from mine quite a bit (which is as it should be).

This mama had a litter of 21 piglets1

Julia is taking a class on swine management this quarter and she loves it. Springtime means birthing – lots and lots of piglets have been born over the last ...

Cohana Scissors from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

I’ll admit that I spend more than I should on cross stitching charts but I’m not usually one to buy expensive things if there’s something else that will do the job just fine. I remember back many years ago when I first came across Gingher scissors. I had always used rather inexpensive scissors when sewing...

The Plan After The Floors Are Refinished from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

We got the info on what we need to do after the floors are done. The guy is coming Monday to get started. Once the final coat is applied, we have to stay completely off them three days. Then the humans can walk on them, with socks – no bare feet and no shoes starting...

More Organizing from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

Every now and then someone will be here or I’ll be talking to someone and they’ll say “You are so organized” and my response is always the same .. I’m so unorganized, it looks like I’m organized! This morning I was going to make a few floss tags. Where are the hole punchers? I need...

Digging Deep from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

Vince keeps bring in things that are mine. I’ve told him . . chances are, since I’ve been here over a year, if I haven’t needed what’s in those boxes by now, I won’t need it but what do you do? You can’t throw out whole boxes . . you have to go through it...

Off Kilter Stars from Quilt Obsession

I know I should have blogged last week but I have an excuse – I got my booster shot and it packed a bit of a punch! I’m glad it did as that means my immune system was busily making antibodies to help fight COVID but still – I wasn’t expecting to feel like I’d been hit by a bus!

However, two more Christmas Fireworks blocks are done, both the off kilter or not centred stars. First this one, which I think may be one of my favourites – so far, that is.

And then this one:

Today I’ll ...

Community Service Quilt Finish from Needle and Foot

As I mentioned the other day, I came across a quilt top from my guild’s Community Service team. Nothing like an impending move to get me going on this top. It took no time at all to get it basted and stippled.

Colorful Chaos!

This scrappy quilt is one crazy flurry of color. Most of the prints are from the 1980’s and 1990’s as far as I can tell. Lots and lots of novelty fabrics were used. The person who pieced it alternated rows of seven inch squares with rows of 3 1/2″ squares and rectangles ...

Going Down the Organizing Rabbit Hole from Where Art & Life Meet

There are diversions and then there are DIVERSIONS!  Organizing can be one of those.  I finished the BIG piece I’ve been working on and instead of leaping into something new, I got sidetracked with organizing.  Organizing my work space, it’s pretty small so it takes some doing to spend more than a few hours on […]

Red Diamonds – Chain Piecing from Quilt Obsession

I decided to get all the red diamonds pieced into pairs for the remaining 21 blocks of the Christmas Fireworks top. There were stacks and stacks of the diamonds like this one.

Each group in the stacks contained 16 of the diamonds.

So I loaded up the needle case with needles threaded with red thread.

Then it took just a few minutes to get each stack pieced into pairs like this.

Each stack turned into stacks and stacks of pieced pairs of red diamonds. Now all the piecing left to do is either continuous piecing or curved piecing or both ...
