Sunday Chat – Cards, Dragons, and Mexican Food from From My Carolina Home

As I mentioned on Friday, I have not been sewing in the past month. Instead, I’ve been spending all my free time (which has been precious little) doing crafting projects. I needed to finish making the cards I wanted to do for the guild show. I didn’t do as many as I had planned, but this will just have to do. The cards will be displayed in a basket for customers to look through. I made several with this sentiment, I think it is cute for a quilter.

I was excited to receive a phone call recently from ...

Another Busy Day from Quilts....etc.

But I did get just a little sewing done – this section of Noriko’s Star is ready to join to the main body of the quilt – I will work on that over the next couple days – one side doesn’t have a white edging on it because of the way it lines up when […]

Bowling Green, Kentucky from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and welcome to Bowling Green!

We're back on Central time, but only for the next four days.

On Sunday, we'll head on over to Lexington, Kentucky, where we'll be back on Eastern time again. I'll leave it up to you whether you want to adjust your watches again. This part of the trip was supposed to have been done in a different order, which is why we're going back and forth a little bit. We had to rearrange to accommodate a tour to a horse ranch in Lexington.

Cooking, Books and the Bird Quilt from From My Carolina Home

On the veranda, the parsley survived transplanting and I’m already using the leaves in dishes. In fact, I have been actively looking for dishes that will highlight the fresh flavor they give to meat entrees and vegetable sides.

Turning the pages in the World in a Skillet cookbook from Milk Street (now on sale for $23.95), I came across this mouth watering photo. That is cilantro in the recipe, but fresh parsley works just as well. It is mixed with green onions, jalapenos, and rice vinegar. The fresh green mixture is a garnish and not cooked. I decided ...

Shepherdsville, KY, the Monarch Challenge, and Museum Minis from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We've moved on down the road this morning. We're in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, which is just about 20 miles from Bardstown, Kentucky. This is where Mike gets to check a few things off his bucket list, starting with the bourbon distilleries. So, I'll tell you about our plans for the area in a bit, but let's go back to where yesterday started.

We were in no hurry to leave the previous spot, and that gave me plenty of time to work on my slow-stitching yesterday morning. I filled my hoop.

From there, I ...

Quilt Show from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Well...we did it. We saw the quilts at the show. It was a pretty easy day. We found on-street parking, and avoided the $10 charge that was right across the street. Our tickets were at the "will call" booth, just as expected. We were in and out in a couple of hours. After the show, we finished up our grocery shopping at the nearest Kroger store, and we were back at the RV by lunch time.

Smitty was champing at the bit to get outside, and so I took him out after lunch.

He actually ...

A Day of Rest from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We had a day off yesterday. It was a day off except for going to the grocery store. Fortunately our list was short. The grocery store here was so small we were only able to get about half of the items on our list. They didn't have "exotic" things like radishes, and so we'll do a little more grocery shopping in Paducah today. Oh yes, and did I say Paducah? Yes, today is quilt show day. I've been looking forward to attending the quilt show in Paducah for about 16 years...as long ...

St. Louis, Missouri from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. That title up there is a lie. When we took off yesterday, I was unaware that the City of St. Louis spans two states. As it happens, we're staying on the Illinois side in the little town of Cahokia, Illinois. Apparently, Cahokia is also known as East St. Louis. No matter. We can see Missouri across the river from where we are.

So let's talk about yesterday's drive, shall we? We headed out US 65 until we reached I-44. The road looked like this most of the way, and we were to stay ...

Adventures in New Flavors from From My Carolina Home

I do enjoy cooking, and finding new combinations of meats and vegetables to keep My Sweet Babboo well fed. I am lucky in that he will eat just about anything put in front of him at the table, and likes vegetables. So when I received the latest cookbook from Milk Street, I knew we were in for some adventures in new flavors. The 365 in the title refers to the days in a year, and the cookbook contains over 600 recipes for just about every type of dish or meal you want.

Once again, I have loaded up the pages ...

Celebrating Lemons for Spring from From My Carolina Home

Finally, the weather seems to be warming up and I hope it stays that way. I need to get some plants for the veranda and move the ones from the Carolina room to the front. I am in a mood for fresh lemons both in cooking and in decorating. So, let’s take a stroll through some past posts to bring together springtime and lemons! First up, a Lemon Tablescape. I still have the lemon salad plates, and the melamine platter, but the little lemon bread plates and yellow cutwork chargers have been donated back to the thrift store. See ...

Sweet Potatoes from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

The sweet potatoes are making so many slips! This evening I’m going to cut the potatoes so I can submerge the tops in water and get all those slips to root and hopefully get a good count on how many plants I’ll end up with. I will probably get about 6 potatoes from each slip....

Seeing the Light from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! So y'all are probably wanting to know if the clouds cleared so we could see the eclipse. I'm as happy as I can be to report that we did! It happened in the sweetest spot of a break in the clouds. When I left you yesterday, it was all clouded over, and we despaired about being able to see anything.

The eclipse wasn't supposed to begin in our area until around 12:38 p.m. I had a few things I wanted to do in the morning. At the top of my list ...

Using Microgreens from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

Some folks had asked how I used microgreens. It’s pretty much the same way as you would use sprouts but since the Microgreens grow in some kind of medium, and they are cut, you don’t end up with seeds. For breakfast yesterday we had omelettes. The front bowl is mixed Microgreens. It was basil, peas,...

Wildflower Wonderland from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. The day went differently than expected yesterday. We ended up doing more fun stuff than expected. Also, the visit to the Inner Space Cavern is back on for today, and so the whole itinerary has been set right.

As it turns out, we weren't able to obtain the part we needed for our ailing slide topper. We'll catch up with it down the road in a couple of days. I didn't explain this when I mentioned it yesterday. Honestly, sometimes I get tired of talking about these little inconveniences. But this is what ...
