Women of Advent – A Quilt Pattern and Bible Study from Blossom Heart Quilts

Christmas is a beautiful time of the year, full of meaningful traditions and experiences that we share with our families and friends. Advent is one of those traditions celebrated by millions of Christians around the world, whether it be as the start of the liturgical calendar and celebrated from four Sundays before Christmas Day, or as a daily devotional from December 1st through to Christmas Day (24 or 25 days – take your pick!).

Each year, my family hangs up an Advent calendar that I made several years ago. It’s not perfect, with some wonky seams and a few stitches ...

Thoughts on Learning to Quilt from QUilting By-You

I’m sure I have done this before, but its always good to revisit things. We are a business where we teach long arm quilting and rent our machines so that you can finish your project yourself. We do all the maintenance so you don’t have to. We have a variety of thread to choose from and try to offer further classes so that you can grow on your long arm quilting journey.

Before all of that happens, we have a beginning class we require you to take. In this class we talk about getting your quilt ready for ...

Curved piecing from Quilting and More...

I took a few days off from working on my clamshells and finished another of the online classes I’ve been enjoying. This one gave techniques on designing curved blocks from traditional ones and then piecing them. I didn’t design my own block, since one was included in the lesson,  and I limited myself to using […]

It's all about the music from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

A totally crazy day. I don't even know why I say that anymore since every day is crazy. I got a lot of paperwork done, but not as much as I would have liked. Hence, I didn't finish the class descriptions for my classes. HOWEVER, I'm going to give you what I have. And that's the information for classes on EQ8.

Note - the class platform is on ZOOM. Zoom is free, but you will need EQ8. I would strongly suggest that you link in through your tablet or a second computer, and use EQ8 on another ...

More class samples from Quilting and More...

As I’ve explained before, I’m taking an online series of classes — fantastically wonderful classes — that are issued monthly. The class I did in August was a different “take” on paper piecing from what I’ve typically done in the past. The samples I made from this were fun to do. First, I made samples […]

Teaching online - the new normal? from Claire Passmore

As is seems pop-up lock-downs and self isolation are going to be with us for a while yet I thought it was about time I did something positive, rather than just sitting back and waiting for the 'new normal' to arrive. So, after a lot of thinking and trialling different things I am about to start online classes.

To begin with I am going to start with my tried and tested Sunflower Bowl class.

This class is one of my favourites and will definitely be suitable for online teaching. I have tried a few ...

The Chaos before the Storm…uh… before teaching online! from Art and Quilting in Camden

As I was setting up for my next online teaching gig, I thought it would be fun to share what it’s like totally upending your workspace to get ready to teach. Have fun watching this video. The sound varies (probably moved the phone farther away then closer), so with apologies, just adjust the volume as it goes along!

Finished class sample from Quilting and More...

In my last post, I showed a small trapunto project I’d done in the series of online classes I’m taking. The next part was rouleau loops, so I’ve added those to the trapunto piece to finish it off. I’m not a huge fan of beige and only used this fabric because I had it on […]

Further steps … from Quilting and More...

I’ve mentioned before that I’m doing a series of classes — given by one of my favorite teachers, Philippa Naylor — online. Class #8 was a couple of methods of doing trapunto. I used some boring beige fabric I happened to have in the right size for this, thinking I’d jazz it up with a […]

Peek Into Batiks–June Block! from Art and Quilting in Camden

Earlier in the year I shared that Michael Miller Fabrics is doing a Block of the Month called Peek Into Batiks. It all began here. That post has links to each month as the new block goes live. Well, June is my turn! I’ve got still photos and (gasp) a video! And, drum roll here is the link to the JUNE Pattern and instructions.

Here’s the finished block! Read on for step by step instructions.

First, of course, you need to cut your fabrics. I used a hybrid method using the AccuQuiltGo! for everything except the large black ...

Easy Peasy meets Soft ‘n Stable from Art and Quilting in Camden

In my last post I shared the Clam Up bag from byAnnie.com, and earlier I shared my AWESOME Running With Scissors bag made for her patterns. I love bags and baskets and boxes and things to organize. One of my favorite classes to teach is my Easy-Peasy Inside-Out Bag, which makes a great 3 hours quickie class for a bag (or two if you are fast) or full day class where you can learn more details and extras. I decided to try Annie’s Soft ‘n Stable stabilizer instead of batting to see how it would work in MY ...

Raw-edge appliqué from Quilting and More...

As I said in a previous post, I’m taking some online classes from Philippa Naylor. Each month I’m given access to the next class in the series, and this month’s class was full of tips on how to do raw-edge appliqué. I played around with some samples, and that’s what you see in these photos. […]

Busy during Lockdown! from Art and Quilting in Camden

I’ll be teaching at the Mancuso quilt shows later this year and next! They asked teachers to do a brief 1-minute video. To no one’s surprise, my first attempt ran long…at least it was only 3 minutes and not 10 LOL! But I decided to upload the longer version here. I hope you’ll enjoy this peek at what I’ve been doing and maybe take a workshop with me at one of the Mancuso shows–I’ll be in Massachusetts in August of 2020–or at International Quilt Festival Houston in Fall.

Finished wonkiness from Quilting and More...

I’m taking a wonderful series of classes online from Philippa Naylor, and the most recent one was to learn a great technique for curved piecing. The finished design is called Happy Heart, and it’s truly wonky and fun. Each individual curved block finished at 3″, and the outer border was done crooked to emphasize the […]
