Kitchen Scraps Challenge and Another UFO Done. from The Cozy Quilter

Each year, the Elgin Piecemakers Guild issues a challenge to their members.  This past year, we were given a piece of insulbrite thermal batting and asked to make something for our kitchens using scraps.  On Thursday night, we met in person for the first time in ages and revealed our projects.  There were oven mitts, hot pads, a casserole carrier, tea cosies, etc.  Many in the group used selvages in their projects.  I decided to raid my denim stash (from old jeans) for my lasagna pan hot pad.  I have a large orange lasagna pan and always have to use ...

October UFO's and PomPoms! from The Cozy Quilter

I finally made my September block for the Elgin Piecemakers Guild Comfort quilt project this past week! We were each to make a bird block with a gray background.  We had plans to meet outside in September in someone's backyard but it poured rain the night of our meeting and it got cancelled so now, the bird blocks will be handed in with the October blocks this month.  I had already made all of my blocks for the rest of the year in the spring so this was the last one to make for 2021.  I used a Riley ...

Hand Stitching the Binding from The Cozy Quilter

I did not get much time to sew or knit this past week.  I had several appointments and some jobs to do around the house. I'm happy that the painting in the bedrooms has been done for a couple of weeks now and the new carpeting was installed on Friday so we are putting the furniture back into the rooms now.  This is a project that will stretch over several days.  We are going to add shelves to a closet so I can store my quilts in it and we have to find a new light fixture for our ...

Working on My October UFO and some Knitting from The Cozy Quilter

It's been a busy week!  My husband and I went on a three day, two night get-away this week--a much needed break from the usual routine.  There was some quilting action in the sewing room before we left, and some knitting progress while we were away.  My daughter and Finn are here visiting this weekend for Thanksgiving so there was a long walk at the park today followed by ice cream--Finn had a little bit of my husband's Country Pumpkin ice cream. I will share some pictures of our week below.

First up, my Charm Square quilt--I pin ...

Charm Pack Quilt Top Done and some Knitting Progress from The Cozy Quilter

It's been a busy week here--we are having our three bedrooms painted this coming week and then new carpeting will be installed in mid October.  This means that everything must be moved out of all of the bedrooms and closets.  This has resulted in lots of purging and trips to the thrift store to donate items we no longer need. Lots of work, but all of our efforts will pay off in the end.  I did take a few sewing breaks this week and managed to finish off the charm square quilt top.  I made this quilt by the ...

Maple Syrup Quilt Done, Progress on other fronts. from The Cozy Quilter

I meant to post pictures of my finished neutral swap quilt last week, but forgot, so here it is this week.  The  reddish background fabric is more of a rust colour in real life. The quilting adds lovely texture. This quilt is now on its way to its new owner.

I made more progress on my second charm pack quilt this week. I have the side borders sewn together but still need to piece the top and bottom borders and then sew everything to the centre.  I am definitely running out of green fabric so will have to get creative ...

Using up the Charm Packs from The Cozy Quilter

At one time, I would purchase precuts when I liked a certain fabric line or sometimes people gave them to me as gifts, and I may have won one or two in a door prize draw at a guild meeting.  I have been working over the last few years to use these precuts up so I don't have any left in my stash.  I have had a farm themed charm pack on my sewing table for a few months now so I could look at it and decide what to make with it.  This past week, while talking to ...

Hi everyone! I am super happy to share my Bowtie Quilt as part of the Just One Charm Pack Quilts Book Hop. A Charming Christmas from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Summertime is almost here so that means the new collections of Christmas fabrics will be arriving in the stores soon.

So it is the perfect timing for the Fat Quarter Shop to release another one of their shortcut quilt patterns.  This festive project uses Charm Packs.

The Fat Quarter Shop asked me which Christmas collection I wanted to use and I picked Little Tree by Lella Boutique.  I knew it was going to look great with the White Grunge fabric I wanted to use for the background.

And here is my finished quilt!
Isn't it fun?

This shortcut pattern ...

A Finish From Leftovers from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I STILL can't share my shortcut quilt finish for the Fat Quarter Shop blog hop.  But I am going to share the little finish I made from the leftover fabric!

Any time I make a quilt design that has large "flip corners", I try and turn the bonus triangles into HSTs.  I had only ten approximately 4" little blocks to play with.

I decided to turn them into this fun little Christmas table topper.  It measures about 14" square.  I just had to dig through my holiday scraps and find an extra charm square to use framed as the ...

Charm Square Conundrum from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

With more time on my hands right now, I am pulling out some projects with far ahead deadlines.
I may not have the time in the future!

I have been holding onto a couple charm packs to make a Christmas quilt.  I always have a hard time tearing open that little paper band.  And when the pattern doesn't use all of the charms, I have to make decisions on what prints I am going to use and what charms I will toss in the scrap bins.
Scraps are always easier for me to use!

Here are the prints I ...

FROM HEART OF WINTER BUS TOUR from ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

Hello Quilters.  Remember the lovely charm pack that the Attic Window Quilt Shop distributed to all those on the Heart of Winter Bus Tour?  Well, I didn't get to go, but when at the shop one day, noticed there were some charm packs left.  I bought one and decided to make this table topper.  It is so cute!  Though I didn't use the book that was also distributed with the charm pack, I did pick up a Fiddle Dee Dee charm pack and am busy making a quilt from that book, Third Time's a Charm.  Can't ...

Look at the pretty fabrics I received in the mail from the Fat Quarter Shop.  I know that Christmas is over but it is never too early to start preparing for the next holiday.  I will be joining the Fat Quarter Shop in another Shortcut QAL later this year made from these fabrics.  You will have to wait until late Spring to see the project, but right now, I had better get sewing!

And speaking of happy mail, there are some great deals available from my affiliates.
I thought I would share them with you.

Leaving It All On The Table from From the Strawberry Patch...

I have started out the month by finishing up a couple of table toppers for fall. Both of these were done from charm squares. The first, shown left, is called "Split Square" and came straight from Country Threads' book: "Sew Charming". This was the small quilt that I hurriedly pieced together before the all-important block "trim down" stage.
