August 2022 OMG and Short List from Quilt Paint Create

Another month down, another project finished. I met my goal last month of sewing a shirt. I’ve done well this year finishing my OMGs, which has kept my projects moving.

There are quite a few changes in the list this month.

Project One: I’m still stitching My Sewing Treasures by Bobby G Designs.

Project Two: I started working on a UFO I picked up off the charity table at Guild. Whoever started it including a picture of what the planned quilt would look like, but I’m not going there. I’ll sew up all the pinwheel pieces ...

Adopt A Box from Quilt Paint Create

My Guild (The Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild) does a thing called “adopt a box.”

The guild has a supply of fabric used to make quilts for a local battered women’s shelter (Safehouse). Member can browse the tables of fabric and take whatever they want to make a Safehouse quilt. We’re talking a lot of fabric to choose from.

Rather than rent a storage unit to store the fabric between meetings, member are asked to take a box home and bring it back the next meeting. Members’ homes become the storage facility.

I’ve taken boxes off and ...

November OMG Finish from Quilt Paint Create

Another quilt made it to the finished list.

I’m really happy with how it turned out. The quilt will go to Safehouse, a battered women’s shelter in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Many women come in with their children, and the facility likes to have kids quilts in stock for them.

I will link to Elm Street Quilts later this month.

That’s my last large project for the year. With the holidays coming up I plan to keep to smaller projects. The holidays tend to be a project in themselves.

Sunday Stash November 8, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric in this week.

I’m counting out the backing for the zigzag quilt.

The quilt is trimmed, the binding is made, and binding it is this week’s goal. I know a lot of quilters pile up quilts that need binding, but once I get to the binding I’m all about finishing it. Quilting is my least favorite part of the process. Once I get past that it’s all down hill.

November 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

Time again to update the list for another month as we head into the holiday season. The weeks pass so fast. I always thought time would pass slower as I aged, but that’s not the case.

I finished Birds last month and another project that wasn’t on the list. With too many choices, I find it challenging to choose what to work on next.

The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, framing, charity and other. I’ve used some form of this system for 6 years to keep me focused. I change the categories as ...

Sunday Stash November 1, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers this week.

I’m about half done quilting the zigzag quilt. I didn’t get any time on my sewing machine during the week and have to make up for it this weekend.

I expect to finish it in the next week or two, which will help the usage number.

Sunday Stash October 25, 2020 from Quilt Paint Create

No fabric in this week.

I used about a yard of fabric for the borders on the zigzag quilt. I basted the quilt yesterday and will start quilting it today.

I also took a break and sewed up this table runner kit my sister sent me last Christmas.

I used fusible fleece instead of batting. I wanted to use white batting and didn’t have any, plus I wanted enough density that the red plaid back didn’t shadow through. The fleece worked beautifully. I quilted it with a serpentine stitch.

I started it Wednesday morning and finished it Friday ...

Time Off And A Top from Quilt Paint Create

I have some time off this week. Sometimes vacation gets away from me, and I don’t get to everything I want to do. It’s best to avoid that by starting the day in the sewing room.

The zigzag top is together now.

I didn’t have a pattern for this quilt. My Guild put together packets for a charity quilting day in January 2019. My packet had a mix of white and children’s prints. We could sew them however we chose. The squares were either 12 or 12.5 inches.

Most of my prints were red, blue ...

The Long Haul from Quilt Paint Create

Almost two years later, the center of the zigzag top is all in one piece.

This weekend I plan to work on the borders. Talk about a project taking way longer than it should have. Unfortunately, it’s nowhere near the record.

I don’t know why this project dragged on. It’s bright, happy and an easy sew, plus I’ve wanted to try this pattern for years. It just didn’t speak to me.

Regardless, it now occupies the top of the priority list.

October 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

It’s that time again! September was a fast month. So fast, I finished nothing.

I did move projects forward though.

The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, framing, charity and other. I’ve used some form of this system for 6 years to keep me focused. I change the categories as my goals and interests change.

If I have nothing in process in a category I will leave it off the list. The list will include only active categories.

September 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

Fall is in the air here. The nights are cooler and the days shorter. The changing season shifts my attention away from outside activities, to home and holidays. The cooler it gets, the more I want to sew and stitch.

I finished the tee shirt and framing project in August.

Going forward, if I am passing on a category I will leave it off the list. The list will include only active categories.

August 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

I don’t know about everyone else, but I’ve had to work to find inspiration and motivation this year. Looking online is not the same as seeing quilts and other projects in person. I don’t see that changing this year, at least not where I live. New times call for new ways.
That said, I finished a couple projects last month and can move on to other things.

It’s time for another list. I’m not sure where my time went in June. It must have gone towards finishing the penguins.
The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, charity and other. I’ve used some form of this system for over 5 years to help keep me focused. I change the categories as my goals and interests change.

Laying out a Plan from Quilt Paint Create

Once I bought a new rotary blade, I made faster progress on trimming the HST blocks. I laid them out the other night. I had a rough idea of creating a zigzag pattern and was thrilled to have enough blocks to manage that pattern.
zigzag layoutI apologize for the crappy picture. It clouded over and turned into a gloomy evening, which is always bad light for pictures. Then I realized I needed to add a couple rows at the tops that ended up smooshed into the wall. I was not about to move all the other rows down.

The June 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

Another month, another list.
I finished two projects in May, A Walk in the Woods and the Hope picture. The rain in May kept me inside a lot. We’ll see if creative projects take a backseat to yard work this month.
The Short List categories are UFO, garment, original design, stitchery, charity and other. I’ve used some form of this system for over 5 years to help keep me focused. I change the categories as my goals and interests change.

May 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

It’s hard to believe it’s time for a new list. I’m hoping the weather will improve and get me out of the house more, but you never know about May. It could be warm, but it could be wet and cool. As long as the sun shines I’m happy.
I finished the UFO, Bears With Borders, in April.

April 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

It’s a new quarter and time for new quarterly and semi-annual goals. I had to make some adjustments to April’s goals because I don’t have supplies for some projects and don’t know when I can get them. I just shifted projects forward to the next quarter and picked other goals. I would have picked those projects eventually, and the order isn’t that important. I didn’t finish anything last month but made good progress on three projects.

March 2020 Short List from Quilt Paint Create

I finished three projects on the list in February. That’s as good as it gets around here. Because I’m setting quarterly and semi-annual goals this year, I will not choose new projects in the categories with finishes until April. I want to make sure I have finishes in all the categories, and this seems like the easiest way to accomplish that.

Looking Back, Looking Forward from Quilt Paint Create

It’s that time of year when you see a lot of 2019 recaps and 2020 plans. I’ve been thinking about 2020 for a few weeks now, keeping in mind where I am and where I want to be.
This wasn’t one of my more productive sewing years. A leg injury late in 2018 kept me out of the sewing room and focused on healing the first part of the year. I couldn’t move around well and stayed off my feet with the leg elevated after work each day. Eventually it healed and life went on.
One ...
