Safelight Project Update from From My Carolina Home

This is just a quick post to let you know that our financial goal for the Safelight Project has not only been met, but well exceeded! This will allow us to do even more good than I had planned. Many generous donations have come in over the past week between paypal and checks arriving in the mail. Thank you all so much! We have enough money to do 100 bags, plus some extra goodies for the shelter residents during the holiday season.

The first order from Dollar Tree for the full size care products has been made and arrival is ...

Charity Piecing from Becca's Crazy Projects

Last time I went to Annapolis Quilts for Kids I grabbed two charm packs and some coordinating fabric for borders.
I wanted to do something more interesting than just simple blocks, so I sorted the fabrics and cut these units to piece some little blocks. I'm sure the results will be very similar to a disappearing nine-patch. I'm piecing them as I work on other projects but it might move to the front of the line.

If you want to contribute but don't have the time or skills, you can support the national Quilts for Kids by ...

I know I missed my regular schedule of posts this week. I've been very busy at work and forgot to post. That doesn't mean I wasn't making. I'm always making. I pieced this fun little quilt. I love the brightly colored dogs. Woof!

Safelight Project 2025 from From My Carolina Home

Back in July, I received an email from Christine at the Safelight Shelter. She let me know that their supply of spa bags was getting low. I looked up the project history, and found that our last delivery was in January from the 2024 campaign. It was delayed due to Hurricane Helene. So, I went to the storage room to see what I had. There were 10 canvas bags, some case sets, cards and a few lotions and soaps. I pulled all that out and made a list of what was needed, then headed to the store to purchase items ...

Quilts for Kids: August from Becca's Crazy Projects

Saturday I dropped off 14 quilted quilts for binding, two tops I pieced, and some batting scraps for tote bags.
I picked up nine quilts with backing and a roll of batting. I also grabbed a couple pieced of fabric to add to the bin because variety makes great quilts.

Sunday Chat – Quilting, Birding, Cooking from From My Carolina Home

I am happy to report that Lemon Twist is almost finished! When I finished ripping out all the bad stitching (see my post Quilting Lemon Twist), I did some trouble shooting and discovered the top thread was not seated into the tension discs. How it jumped out is beyond comprehension, but there it was. I re-threaded the machine, did some test stitching, and all looked good. But I was nervous, and stopped to check the stitching multiple times on each replacement row and through the end of the quilting. All was well.

I removed it from the longarm, and trimmed ...

Tealing All Our Stories (TAOS) from Jean Swenson

Donation Blocks for Tealing All Our Stories (TAOS)

June 2024

For the past few years, I’ve made blocks to be included in a donation quilt for the Trudy Crowley Foundation fund-raiser held in Australia. The foundation supports the Trudy Crowley Center, providing a safe space, self-care and advice for those with ovarian cancer and their families.

This year’s theme was a bookcase. It was fun to see what the contributors included on their shelves in addition to the books, as you can see in the final quilt shown below. There’s even a picture of Trudy Crowley who ...

Sorting Charity Scraps from Becca's Crazy Projects

I keep the scraps I create in this bin. I was having difficulty finding fabrics to pull for a cohesive quilt.
I spent some time sorting fabrics into color families.
From that chaos, I was able to piece this quilt top. It will go to the next Annapolis Quilts for Kids to be paired with some coordinating backing.
