Hand Quilting .... holy cow! from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

LOL .... did that title of this post catch your attention?  Yes, I'm going to be doing a bit of hand quilting.  Only on small projects.

Like this small 24" x 24" wall hanging.  Yes, you can't see anything except for a glimpse of something beneath my stencils.  Why?

This hanging is for an quilt exchange that I'm participating in with Humble Quilts.  The exchange is now closed with 70 swappers and I have already received the name of the person that this hanging will be going to.  Our work can be showed, but if the recipient reads ...

Panel Challenge Update #1 from Prairie Moon Quilts

I finally got moving on my Panel Challenge quilt! If you want in on the Panel Challenge, it’s not too late at all. You can find all the info HERE and HERE.

I came up with an idea, and it turned into a throw quilt. Then I got to thinking that was too big, and maybe I needed to come up with a different idea. Then I decided why not? It’s OK to make it throw sized, and it’ll use up more fabric from my stash, right?

Besides, I plan to donate mine to my guild’s ...

The Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Challenge 2021 Begins!!! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

 "What does love look like?

It has the hands to help others.
It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy.
It has eyes to see misery and want.
It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men.
That is what love looks like."

Hi, all!

Things are all falling into place for this year's Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Challenge!  I'm so excited to get this started!

2021 represents the eleventh year of the Hands2Help Comfort Quilt Challenge!  We've had an amazing ten years...

Panel Challenge: Ideas from Prairie Moon Quilts

Wow! You guys are all in for the Panel Challenge! I way underestimated how much interest there would be in a challenge like this. This is gonna be fun.

Since there IS so much interest, and so many of you want to join in, let’s just make it official, shall we?

Here are the rules again, and below that, I’ll answer a couple of questions I’ve been asked.

  1. Choose a panel to use for your project.
  2. Turn the panel into a quilt of any size (or any project of your choosing — doesn’t have to be a ...

A Panel Challenge from Prairie Moon Quilts

While I was working my way through The Final Countdown at the end of 2020, I unearthed a lot, and I mean a LOT of panels — I did not even realize I had so many! Since I don’t normally buy panels, I know most of these were given to me. Some of them are really old!

I obviously don’t use panels much, either, because I still have all these. I believe it’s partly because I have to think too hard to decide what to do with them.

I gathered them all up, put them in this box ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... But This May Help! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Scrappy sewing has been the main focus around here lately, as I completed the final prototypes for the String Therapy series coming up the end of this month!

But all that sewing meant a whole lot less time looking for inspiration on the internet...  Fortunately, though, Joy of The Joyful Quilter has come to the rescue with a year-long challenge that is right up our scrappy alleys!!  It's called The 2021 Table Scraps Challenge - a challenge to make a scrappy table topper each month, and I bet we've all got enough scraps - and time - to do ...

Line By Line from The Snarky Quilter

Temporal challenges to create art abound on social media: 100 days of postcards, 52 weeks of collages, a year of daily ambient temperatures, etc. I wanted to begin 2021 with some sort of daily art prompt, but I didn’t know … Continue reading

12th Annual Final Countdown Wrap-up from Prairie Moon Quilts

Today I’m back to announce the winners of The 2020 Final Countdown. I think this one was more fun for me than ever, even tho I gave us some hard tasks!

I love that some of you sent in pictures, and I’ve really enjoyed the great comments and wonderful suggestions. And it’s sooo wonderful to know that I’m not alone in my mess, and in my constant efforts to get things under control around here.

Here are a couple more before/afters:

Here’s a couple afters of that closet we saw in an earlier post ...

2020 Final Countdown, Task Three from Prairie Moon Quilts

Loving all the photos you are sharing ( mainly because I love getting peeks into other people’s sewing spaces)! Here are a few more photos . . .

Some afters from yesterday’s befores:

Amazing differences, right? Like a breath of fresh air, I always say . . .

Some befores, and I’m showing you these, not because they’re before pictures, but because they’re really good ideas for fabric storage! They actually look fairly organized already, to me. And how handy is it to have your fabric all so accessible? Also, note the great lighting in this space!

Another before, and this is ...

2020 Final Countdown, Task Two from Prairie Moon Quilts

How are you doing with your main work surface? Have you unearthed it yet? Still working on it?

Several of you sent me pictures, and it really comforts me to know I’m not alone in this mess-making habit of mine! Wanna see some of them?

Here are a couple before shots. I’m withholding names to protect the guilty!

Here are some afters:

And here are a couple of before AND afters. I just keep flipping back and forth between them, because the difference just amazes me!

And I do have to tell you that this one is Macy ...

2020 Final Countdown, Task One from Prairie Moon Quilts

Well, here we go! Are you ready for Task One of this year’s Final Countdown? If you missed all the details from yesterday’s post, you can find themĀ HERE. I hope you’ll join us.

Some years I take it kind of easy on us, some years I don’t. This year I’m not making it super easy, mainly because I need some tough love for my own sake. (Basically, I do the things I myself need to do, and just drag you all along with me. Thank you for joining me!)

Also, all of this year ...

The 12th Annual Final Countdown from Prairie Moon Quilts

Wow! Our twelfth year doing this, and I’m STILL not organized! Haha!

I know a lot of folks are saying they will be glad to see this year behind them. Me, I’m of the mind that, just because the calendar is turning over, doesn’t mean things are going to automagically change instantly, or change for the better, even. But there is hope!

I saw a meme the other day that said: “You don’t realize how much of an introvert you are until a pandemic strikes, and your life doesn’t really change that much!” That would ...

Never underestimate the inspiration caused by a group project from Art and Quilting in Camden

Art should be like a holiday: something to give a man the opportunity to see things differently and to change his point of view. -Paul Klee, painter (18 Dec 1879-1940)

So I’m part of Mt. Battie Modern Quilt Guild, one of two local groups. This chapter, part of the MQG (Modern Quilt Guild) is the smaller of the two and is almost completely comprised of members of Coastal Quilters (the other group) which is part of the statewide Pine Tree Quilt Guild (Maine is the Pine Tree state). For once, I decided to participate in a round robin sort ...

The Pandemic & Life from Where Art & Life Meet

As our internet is FINALLY up and running and my email is now, miraculously and somewhat bizarrely suddenly working again, I decided yesterday afternoon to do an impromptu live stream. It was very last minute, and touch and go, as the internet began misbehaving the minute I tried to live stream, but in the end… Continue reading The Pandemic & Life

100 Days! from Prairie Moon Quilts

Yes, it’s already that time again! That magical day when there are only 100 days left in the year! And fall has officially begun.

Time for me to once again make my list of “100 Things To Do In The Next 100 Days”.

I find that I’m usually too completely pie-in-the-sky with my lists, so this time, I’m trying to pull myself down to earth a bit and make a more realistic list. (Key word: realistic — I have trouble with that!) I’ve yet to ever accomplish all 100 things on my list — I think my highest ...

OMG - August 2020 from Urban Quilter

Pattern cut & ready to assemble
My #onemonthlygoal for August is to complete the black and white cotton skirt that has been a PIG (project-in-a-grocery-bag) since at least last summer. Maybe I can get it put together so I can wear it before this summer is over.

This month I will also be working on quilting my scrappy Irish chain quilt as it is what came up for the UFO Challenge

Sunday Stitching Post #15 from Urban Quilter

I spent this past week with my niece, much of it at the beach, so almost no sewing got done. (It was a great week though!) I managed to miss the deadline for posting my OMG finish for July. I did complete my goal several weeks ago which was to finish my bargello quilt. The UFO challenge project for July was my Guild Mystery Quilt which I got out, selected quilting thread for, and began quilting it. Not much progress, but some.

2020 UFO Challenge from Urban Quilter

Even though the year is half over I have decided to compile my list of unfinished projects and join in the 2020 APQ UFO Challenge The goal of the challenge is to get some projects finished, or at least worked on, and I figure moving forward (potentially) on 6 projects is better than none. I checked to see what numbers have already been pulled for the year and made my list using the remaining numbers.
Watch for updates here on the blog and on my instagram under #APQResolution.

Canticle of the Stars from Art and Quilting in Camden

Canticle of the Stars, or should I call it Anthem of Light? Chime in!
Completed May 2020, 36 tall x 46.5 wide.

There is a thing called star trails photography (just google it…it’s really cool). The earth rotates on its axis. The North Star is static in our northern skies. If you take time lapse photos and then “stack” (merge) them, you get star trails….images that describe the lines created by the light of the stars. Did you know that starlight comes in different colors??? It does… I love the feeling of the vastness of space ...
