2019's Last Hurrah from The Snarky Quilter

Sorry I lied to you. It turns out I wasn’t finished with finishes for 2019, though the final one is more of a collaboration than a solo effort. Several years ago I bought an Amish made wall hanging at a … Continue reading

Harlequin cushion from Granny Maud's Girl

When my grandmother moved out of her house and into a nursing home a few years ago, we had to find homes for a lot of her extra belongings. She was never much of a knitter – she much preferred golf, tennis and bridge – but she had a small craft stash that included nine balls of cream yarn.

Shearer's 8-ply yarn

All but one of the nine balls had its ball band.

The yarn is pure wool, but it is a little too rough to wear on the skin. My friends and I guessed that it must be at least 20 years old, based ...

Stitching a Tea Cozy Garden from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

A few months ago, I (Teri) joined the local chapter of the Embroiderers' Guild of America. Each month at the meetings, an embroidery project is offered; at my first meeting it was a cute little tea cozy, made with buttons. I love tea, and I have a vast collections of buttons, so I gathered some fun buttons and threads and set off on my new adventure.

I love to challenge myself to learn new stitches or to make them with different threads or applications. For this project, I chose to focus on using Painters Threads and floss by Weeks Dye ...

Why I Love Leftovers, When to English Paper Piece Squares (Rarely), and Why I Still Like Facebook from Gefilte Quilt

If I bake a cake, I know there won't be any leftovers. My DH and I, unfortunately, share a sweet tooth - we'll eat the whole thing in 1-2 sittings. So I don't bake.

That gives me more time to quilt. And one of the great joys of quilting is knowing that there are going to be lots of yummy, color-coordinated, high-fiber, calorie-free leftovers, with a shelf life much longer than anything involving butter!

Here's my newest leftover quilt - a trifle about 22" square.

It's the direct descendant of this large (about 70" high) English Paper ...

One of my most popular SQI posts is from this one back in 2013. I thought that since it's a favorite, we could revisit the idea. So, the idea is the same; the pictures are updated. Let's start with creative ways to use buttons.

12" Button and Spools Block

@stashbandit posted to Instagram: I took a little block idea and made it into this quilt that I named I'm Sew Happy. QM called it Sewful Things. It was great fun to make! Blues are tricky in scrap quilts, and I have many, many reject blocks left over. #scrapquilt #scrapquilts #stashsewing #patchwork #patchworkquilt #patchworkquilts #quilt #quilts #quilting #makeextraordinaryscrapquilts #hqstitch #likeastashbandit #dianeharris #stashbandittrunkshows #sewing #sew #sewingproject #thimbles #buttonsCute as a Button | Etsy

Crafty Cards from Incomparable Buttons

There's no better feeling than giving...but if its just a thoughtful little something, often the card can cost as much as the gift. So why not whip up a few handmade cards of varying themes and keep them in a drawer to accompany a wedding, anniversary or Valentine's gift (you guessed it, the theme here is love and hearts) It's never been easier to create your own homemade greeting
