I might be the only person that didn’t read this when it first... from Wolf Creek Quilting

I might be the only person that didn’t read this when it first came out. I also thought it wrapped up nicely but just found out it is the first of a series of 4. I enjoyed reading this book, I’m not sure it will be on my list of all time favorites, but I will search out the next in the series! Did you read this book and what did you think?

This is another book that came up on my “All time best mystery books” search. It was written in 1961 and is the first one in the George Smiley series. I’m not usually a huge spy book reader, but this one intrigued me so I’ll prob grab the next one at some point! Do you have a favorite LeCarre book?

I recently was on a quest for a good murder mystery book and did... from Wolf Creek Quilting

I recently was on a quest for a good murder mystery book and did an internet search for the best ever mystery books. Of course the lists were subjective, but, an Agatha Christie book appeared on nearly everyone’s list, and this particular book was on many. I absolutely adored this book. I loved the writing and how the mystery was tied up in a nice little bow at the end! I have several more of her books on my “to be read” list! What is your favorite Christie book?

The Flag of India, First '22 Finish, & New Addition from caledonia quilter

This was such a fun piece to quilt!  It's based on the flag of India and was the last "custom" quilt of 2021.

Much of the quilt is hexagons.

Some applique.  Well, actually all of the hexies, the mountains, and the wheel are appliqued on to the background of sea & sky.

Lots of c/c quilting (Continuous Curve) and s.i.d. around all of the elements.

The strippy blues for the water are very effective.

I always love the back of quilts.

FIRST FINISH OF 2022

This one's mine.  Started on New Year's Day and complete ...

Set in 1904, this book is a mystery that takes place in the infancy of forensic procedures. As the title depicts, it takes place in Vienna and also explores secret societies and the prejudices of the time. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and discovered the tv series which I’m also enjoying!

A recent question on Alexa’s Question of the Day was “What book was voted best book of the 20th century in France” the answer was The Little Prince. I don’t remember reading this as a child but maybe it was read to me? As an adult I appreciated this book in a way that as a child I’m sure I did not. Definitely worth a quick read!

Very Simple Yet Very Effective and Some 2022 Plans from caledonia quilter

Here are a couple of November quilt jobs.  Both of these are made with simple blocks, and the end results are great.  Both are also very scrappy - my favorite!

#1 - 9-Patch blocks

#2 - Half-Square Triangle blocks

This is my New Years Day project.  I've been stitching a bit on this every day.  The rows are ready to sew together.  Maybe tonight I'll start that?

Today was one of those days where I was having trouble getting motivated.  To be honest though, many days are like that.

In the past week there have been THREE mornings when I slept ...

One of the books I finished up right before Christmas was The... from Wolf Creek Quilting

One of the books I finished up right before Christmas was The Love Songs by W.E.B. Du Bois which prompted me to look into books written by Du Bois. I liked this book a lot and it was very interesting to hear his opinion and insights on different subjects. He talked about emancipation, tenant farming, education (or lack of) for black people and so much more. This was written in 1903 and as I was listening to it I kept wondering how he would feel about today’s world? This will probably be a book I get in ...

2nd book of 2022. This was one I grabbed because it was a long list finalist of the National Book Awards. It was well written but kind of like how everyday life can be a little boring, this!was how I felt about this book. I enjoyed the writing style so I really want to read some of the author’s other works. I think though if it hadn’t been an audio version there wasn’t much to keep me turning the pages. Let me know how you felt about this book.

Hello 2022! This is my first book for 2022 and I LOVED it! The writing was great and the story based on true events was so interesting! I dropped the ball on all the great books I read in 2021, but I will get back to posting them soon! I will definitely be looking into more written by this author.

Crafty Judy Miniclier created this adorable GNOME QUILT, using assorted GNOMES FROM MY SHOP. Beautiful!

I decided I wanted to read as many of the books on the Booker Long List 2021 before the end of the year. I’m getting a late start and some of the books aren’t available in audio yet - but we’ll give it a go! Light perpetual was so amazing! 5 lives that ended when a London Woolworths was bombed in 1944. This book was about what if’s - how their lives might have been. There is a reason it is on this list!

Improv Summer Bee Blocks: part 2 from Goer

Yesterday I shared my improv hammock quilt block. The second block I made for Chris was a book.

The book block was less tricky. I started by cutting book page shaped pieces out of the blue fabric. Then I added borders of white on three sides. I used the blue and white book pages as my template for cutting the background. These strips are about 5/8" wide. Rectangles were cut for the sides and I used the curve edge of the blue fabric as my template to cut the curves white strips.

Next, I cut out the book shape ...
