Final Full Week from Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Things are about to get real here at the Three Cats Ranch. Real busy, that is. We'll be at home today, but the week starts off with a bang tomorrow when we take both kitties to the vet to collect their CVI (Certificate of Veterinary Inspection). Think of it as the kitty passport they'll need to enter Alaska. And, honestly, they are natural-born American catizens, so they are very put out at this extra hoop they must jump through. And if you don't know it already, kitties are not fond of doing tricks ...

Great Outdoors is Great Again from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's a frosty and cold morning here at the Three Cats Ranch. Freezing fog was in the forecast, and that's exactly what we got. We still have patches of snow left from last week. Now, everything is coated with a slippery sheen. I don't know about you, but I'm staying inside today. The last thing I need is to slip and fall and break another bone.

Let's talk about yesterday, shall we? With Mike's help, the Great Outdoors quilt was snipped and washed. I'm really happy with how this ...

Ombre Sunset from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a busy day yesterday. All sewing, all the time, with a little bit of baking thrown in for good measure. What could be better than that? Well...maybe winning the lottery, but first one must actually play the lottery.

Finishing off the stitching for the small Catmint piece was at the top of my list. This will still need borders, quilting, and binding. I have some cute fabrics to finish it off.

There was still a little time left in my slow-stitching morning, and so I started stitching the names and places for the ...

Sashing and Gnashing from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. When I wrote yesterday's post, I completely forgot it was the day a new prompt would be announced for the Project Quilting challenge. Late morning, after I'd done as much quilting as I'd planned for the day, I checked my email, and there it was. The challenge this time around is "Ombre."

Well that threw me. I spent a good part of my afternoon sewing time gnashing my teeth about what I could do for this. My initial reaction was to skip this one, but then I get a bad case of the ...

Next Steps from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a good day of sewing yesterday. I've taken two projects to the next step in the process. Of course, no day of sewing is complete without first spending some time with my slow-stitching in the morning. I'm nearing a finish of the Catmint piece.

Next up, I finished quilting the remaining blocks in the Domestic Affairs quilt.

It's hard to see the quilting on the back, but here's a peek.

Whenever I'm working on a quilt, I think of it as a learning experience. If my goal is to ...

Remarkable Books: My 5-Star Picks of the Year from Sew French

This year has been a record-breaker for me—156 books read, with 25 earning a perfect 5-star rating. Hours spent researching new releases, rediscovering classics, following recommendations, and tackling my ever-growing TBR list paid off with an incredible collection of memorable … Continue reading

Sewing by Computer from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's going to be a run-around day for me. My camera is ready to be picked up from its spa treatment, and not a minute too soon. I've missed it. The pictures I've been taking for the past several weeks have been taken with my old Nikon camera. When I couldn't get the Nikon repaired a few years back, I ended up purchasing a Panasonic that I like much better. We ended up pirating some parts from an even older Nikon camera to get the newer model working again. It's been ...

Bertha Gets a Day Off from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, although we're almost to lunch time. I think I can still avoid breaking any laws with my "good morning" wishes. As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I had breakfast with my friend Sue this morning and passed off the baby quilt for her new grandson.

Of course, I wasn't out this early, but the day started with a pretty red sunrise.

And you know how that goes: "Red sky at morning, sailors take warning." Indeed. Our weather has been chilly, but sunny for the past week. We're expecting rain this weekend. So ...

A New Shop Hop from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We're still chilly here, with overnight temperatures in the 20's and daytime temp's in the 30's. We're expecting a change when the rain starts up again this weekend, but next week is looking sunny and a little warmer. We've been cold because of the east wind coming out of the Columbia Gorge, where it's always among the coldest places in the state.

It was a stay-at-home day for me. Aside from doing a little housework and taking a walk on the treadmill, it was all sewing, all the time ...

One Foot in Front of the Other from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's hard to know what to say or where to start. To start, I'll tell you about how my day went yesterday. Like most Americans it was hard for me to concentrate on much of anything, but I managed to get in a little bit of time in the sewing room. Enough happened there to cause me to decide to return to Plan A with the "Mosaic" quilt. For now, I'll tell you about what I learned and how I'll proceed. At the end, I'll say something about the way forward ...

Next Steps from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. When we chatted yesterday, I thought we might get a decent day of weather. Before I could even finish my slow-stitching, it was raining again, and it rained most of the day. Today is looking more promising. I'm wanting to get outside and cut back the dahlias. It's time for them to move to the garage. (My dahlias are planted in pots.) It's looking as if today's weather might be more cooperative.

And, well, rainy days are good sewing days. Of course, nothing could happen until I finished off January's block ...
