Feeling Blue from Sew Preeti Quilts

I am not just making quilt blocks I am making friends.

Hmm... try again
That's it!

One fine day I received an email from Gail in which she explained that she was the original designer of the block (Abigail Angel) that eventually became the International Sister Quilt Block. She appreciated the fact that I did not claim the block as my own but had shared the tutorial freely. Gail further wrote that she was pleasantly surprised with the long life and the evolution of the block.
I was thrilled to hear from Gail - the original designer!!!
I asked if ...

Field Trip and Soda Shoppe Quilt Kits ... And My Picture Saga from Busy Hands Quilts

If you love the sweet prints in the Strawberry Fizz fabric collection combined with old-fashioned quilt designs, today is your lucky day!  Two quilt kits I designed for Bluprint in Strawberry Fizz are on Bluprint's Maker's Black Friday Sale! And if you just love the fabric, this is the only way to get it since it's no longer available as yardage or precuts.

Last summer {2018}, I was asked to design two quilts that used a very specific group of fabrics - two sets of 9" x WOF strips, each with 19 prints in Strawberry Fizz.

The first ...

Sonika from Sew Preeti Quilts

Meet Sonika.
Mom's name + baby daughter's name = Sonika.

Sonika

It started with sparkly white squares and some jelly roll strips.

But the magic comes from the on-point setting.

On-point

I chose a bright turquoise and purple butterfly backing.
Warm front and cool backing :-) I had a good feeling about this one.

Butterfly Backing

Quilted it simply with my walking foot and a zig-zag stitch, following the piecing.

Zig Zag quilting

For binding I used a dark purple fabric. It is not solid but reads like one.

And I did not ...

Bluprint free month trial offer from The Quilt Rat

I promise I have a fresh post coming in a day or two, but today I wanted to share a link with you.

I have mentioned Bluprint before (previously Craftsy) whatever your interests, whatever you might like to learn more about...you can likely find a class on that topic. Quilting, sewing, knitting, cooking, baking, decorating, drawing, painting, spinning, crocheting....the list goes on and on.
I quite like the platform.....sometimes I "take" the whole class...sometimes, its just one portion or technique I want to see/learn and I jump to that part of the video class. I ...

Soda Shoppe Twin Quilt | Finished or Not Friday Linky Party! from Busy Hands Quilts

My Finish is some Secret Sauce Sewing from 2018 that I can now reveal!!  Meet Soda Shoppe in Strawberry Fizz, a pattern I designed for Bluprint.

This design, not new or original in any way, was what I came up with when I was given two bundles of (19) 9" x WOF prints with no background fabric.  The binding also needed to come from the two bundles.  It was a fun challenge to come up with a design ...

12 worth to own forever Craftsy Bluprint Quilting Classes from Sewing Under the Little Mushroom Cap

I am a self-taught quilter.

Meaning that I have never had formal quilting learning process. I just learn as I go.

When I started quilting, I had a little baby, I was a full time student and didn’t have the leisure to spend a whole day or a weekend on a quilting class, not to mention I was on a budget too.

This post contains affiliate links. Please find the full disclosure HERE.

My family generations have no quilters and I’m the first quilter of the family. We are a generation of sewist though. Quilting is uncommon in ...

Looking for Paper Piecing blocks from the Block Rock’n Series? from 627 Handworks

Due to changes within Craftsy I am moving the patterns to Etsy. Each block will priced at $1 OR buy the entire series of 12 blocks for $5.

This was a free series in the past. Having Etsy host the patterns is easier for  me, so feel free to share within sewing groups. Especially if you use one of the patterns as your Bee block! They do NOT need to be purchased multiple times. Same with the series purchase.

Thanks for your patience while I got these listings updated – they are ready to go.

Purchase and download HERE.

I’m so happy that I actually have a WIP (work in process) for Wednesday to show you!  I finished this quilt top from a 2013 block of the month (Fat Quarter Shop Mystery BOM).  I only needed to add the final border and piece the backing for it.  Now it’s off to the longarm quilter!

WIP Wednesday: my 2013 Fat Quarter Shop Mystery BOM quilt top is finished @ The Crafty Quilter

This quilt came as a kit each month and each row has a different theme.  You’ll find baskets, stars, houses and flowers.  Such a happy quilt!

Dyeing Fibre from The Quilt Rat

Over the years I have experimented quite a bit with dyeing and painting fabrics and threads as well as a variety of surface design techniques but up until now I had not tried to dye wool fibre. Since I have become interested in spinning yarn, it naturally follows that I might want to dye the fibre I spin.

To get started, I took a couple of excellent classes offered on BluPrint, and watched a great many You Tube tutorials. Wool ( a protein fibre ) needs both acid and heat to activate and set (exhaust) the dye.  I began gathering the supplies ...
