A little progress was made on the Tilda 16 patch blocks, but the most time yesterday was spent cutting batting and piecing backs for two quilts. I need to cut more batting today while the table is cleaned off.
In case you are wondering, the friend who came over yesterday to choose 2 baby quilts chose these two. My son's friends are becoming grandparents for the first time so I give them one for the baby's house and one for the grandparents' house.
Quilters like certain patterns to stitch for baby quilts. These patterns are conducive to smaller block sizes, juvenile cotton prints, and easy stitching. I have made a fair number of baby quilts over the years. One-patch blocks like 9-patch, tumbling blocks, or parallelogram shapes are classic designs. Alphabet blocks, animal blocks, and fussy-cut pieces for […]
read moreI found a nice stripe in the mid-tone of the quilt for the binding and got it sewn on. This quilt is 39" square.
The backing is a grayed purple even though it seems to be brown in some lights. The quilt is much softer looking in person, not such high contrast.
I used Hobbs 80/20 in this quilt.
The close up shots show some of the colors in the quilt, like this green print.
There are browns, rust, blue and gold tones.
Burgundy check and a burnt orange are in this shot.

I made my first fabric purchase this year. Yes, it's Tilda again and yes, it was pricey because it is a new line, but I needed a perk.
I bought the smallest pack available, fat 8ths plus 1/2 yard of my favorite fabric.
I finished quilting the baby quilt last night but haven't trimmed it yet. That will happen today and I'll find a binding fabric and hopefully get it finished.
I was just about out of the cookies in my freezer so it was time to bake something else. I love this cherry topped cake ... read more
I keep running out of time to write up this post. The 'Folksy Tree & Baskets' quilt top is finally finished! All the applique done and dusted.*sigh

| So happy with the scrapped together background fabric look |
I put my Arizona quilt blocks together and it is now a completed top--36"square. Before assembly, I remade a couple of the four patches. If you look closely, you can see that the cacti are now mirror images of the adjacent block in the next quadrant. Anal, I know, but I didn't like how it looked before.
I started this baby quilt back in February with the plan of giving it to my best friend’s son & wife at their baby shower. I did finish the top, but didn’t have time to get it quilted. I sent it out to my long-armer, Rhonda, to quilt. I prepare special labels for my baby […]
read moreIt turned out to not be as difficult as I thought it would be to assemble this quilt top. There were 4 partial seams. I added 3" strips all around so the butterflies would be surrounded by background fabric. It is 35" x 45". I'll check so see if I have enough of any of the bright prints for the backing.
The yellow Coneflower bloom is finally opened. We don't have any frost or freeze warnings at night for the next week so maybe another of the buds has a chance to bloom.

It was time to jump in and start piecing sections of the butterfly quilt. I'm just winging it so far and haven't pressed any sections yet.
I pieced more sections and then it came to a standstill while I stared at it and tried to decide how to sew the center section. I think there will be some partial seams to sew it all together. I need to press all of the sections that are sewn so I can accurately measure the spaces.
I went outside to check on some plants yesterday afternoon. The Lenten Rose plants are ... read more

I spent an hour with garden clean up yesterday. It was cool enough that I needed a jacket. There were quite a few branches to pick up as well as pulling out the spreading bellflowers and goldenrod. I think I'll go out and clip the dead flower stalks on the hostas this year. I read you ...

Meet Pesto Mushrooms :-)
| Pesto Mushrooms |
When I was asked to make a Birthday Quilt for a 6-year old boy who loves the color Green and is fascinated with Mushrooms, I said Yes, please :-D
The Pesto (Green Fabrics) was the easy part. I wasn't sure how to incorporate mushrooms.
Pieced or Appliqued? Small or Large? A mix of large portabellas and tiny enokis?
I turned to EQ8 and found a template for mushroom applique. BINGO!!!! In EQ8, the dots are applique as well. I ...
