Welcome, and RIP from Quilting and More...

This is the wonderful sewing machine I’ve had for more than the past five years. A few years ago, I was able to add a lovely iridescent “skin” to the plain faceplate (click the photo to enlarge for a better view!), and I’ve loved sewing on such a beautiful machine with such wonderful capabilities. However, […]

Stained Glass Diamonds 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Love leadlight and stained glass windows and I think these designs would look great on a bed, or hanging on a wall.

I tried to pick a favourite, but it was a dead heat between these two.

Homeward Bound VII - Applipops - on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

Homeward Bound Month 7

Applipops
Okay, I'll admit it.  Even though this project is a lot of work, I am a bit obsessed with it.  I know
Sarah Fielke designed it and hundreds of quilters are making it all over the world, but it feels perfectly unique to me.  I'm always a little shocked when I get a section done.  Shocked by what I learned, how much better I am at the end of the month than at the beginning, and how it looks totally different from everyone else's.

This month wasn't any different.  Well, it ...

Simplicity and mending (with tips for iron on patches) from Charm About You

I'm continuing to work on my Merrow Croft quilt. I keep thinking I've not got far to go but hand sewing is a slow, slow process! I'm working on my last border of back basted, applique blocks.

It's such a satisfying process, if you've not tried back basting applique I recommend doing so. There are some good tutorials on YouTube to show you how.

Hand piecing and hand applique are definitely two of my favourite techniques. The simplicity of just using fabric and thread is so lovely.

Then some mending was required. My middle loves ...

Finishing Yugana Tsuru, the Art Quilt from From My Carolina Home

The Japanese fabrics art quilt is done! At the end of the last post about it, I had the three elements quilted and the base finished. The next step was to center the black circle on the seam lines. I used a tape measure and a long ruler placed on the seam line to find the center top to bottom.

Then I did the same on the horizontal seam.

The black piece is pinned in place. I set the white circle on top just to make sure the black was oriented the way I wanted it. The crane needed to ...

Chocolate Cake, Monarch Applique, Garden Blooms from Canadian Needle Nana

It is a surprise each time I step out the front door and look at the flower beds. SO much growing and flowering without me having to lift a finger these days. Summer '23 will be one to note; I could say this summer has been good on flowers, which is phrasing used at home.

I just have to show you all by itself the Madagascar Jasmine...what is it now, 5 years old maybe and I've never seen anything like this. If I coaxed a flower or two from it before, I rejoiced. But Mother Nature does it ...

Unbridled.....Horse Quilt from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I am still making my way through

a pile of fabric panels

I have purchased over the years...

This horse panel is called...Unbridled

As soon as I put this panel up on the design wall,

I just knew I wanted to include big stars

I could not find a pattern

so I made a star block of my own...

The star is paper pieced

then I cut it into a circle

and it is turned edge appliqued to the quilt top...

I like the way this is looking...

so I made more stars...

At this point a gold Stonehenge ...

Homeward Bound BOM Continues on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

One down - 3 more to go

It's always hard to get back into the swing of things after a vacation, isn't it?  At least that is what I found this week.  I did manage to get my studio unpacked and finally looked at my Block of the Month, Homeward Bound.

Sighhhhhhh

I had a few rules  parameters when I started this journey last January.

  • Stick to the pattern
  • Stick to the technique the designer was teaching
  • Finish each month on time
I was doing so well......then came July and it all got shot to hell.

Here it ...

Taking Some Time Off! from Quilty Folk

I've been puttering around, sewing the wedges together from a project that got cut too small. It just seems like a waste to have it sit in the orphan totes forever. The plan is to hand applique these wheels to a background block and then figure out a center circle fabric. Perhaps blue? Some of the Dresdens are a little bit wonky, but I'm crossing my fingers the hand work will ease it out.

The new applique project
In other news, my mother got this lovely quilt in the mail a couple weeks ago. One of my cousins ...
